Here we go...

OP posts:
Tigerschick · 17/11/2008 16:49

Arlene was on JV earlier on.
She said that she thinks John is different from other no hopers poorer dancers (such as Fiona Phillips, Juilan Clarey etc.) because she thinks that he doesn't realise how bad he is - that he thinks he deserves to still be there ... not sure what to think about that but thought I'd share it with you all

belgo · 17/11/2008 16:52

I don't think John is under any illusions about his dancing ability, but if he's voted in by the public, then I can understand why he thinks he deserves to be there.

Nagapie · 17/11/2008 16:58

What if there is a tie - joint position - do the couples all end up getting the same points?

If this is the case, the judges could then just give every couple barring John the same score??

CrushaGrape · 17/11/2008 17:13

The judges could give every couple the same score - then they would all get 8 (or is it 7 next week? can't remember how many are left) and John would get 1 point, and this would make it extremely hard for him to avoid the bottom 2. However, deliberately skewing the voting like that would enrage the John supporters and they'd vote even more!

I'm finding it all rather amusing. I never vote, as I don't quite see why I should pay (none of it goes to charity any more) for celebs who get paid a fairly generous appearance fee to stay in a television series which boosts their public profile and also looks like a lot of fun to participate in.

Even though John continues to stay in, this only puts off a 'good' celeb going out by just one week.

Tigerschick · 17/11/2008 18:12

I think that the bit that annoys me is that it would appear that some people are voting for John, even tho they don't watch the programme ... there was a guy on the radio earlier who said that he was listening to a late night show on another station where the DJs were giving out the number to vote for John and telling everyone to ring it between 8 and 9 on Saturday nights - just for the laugh I'm sure there are better ways of getting a laugh...

RTKangaMummy · 17/11/2008 18:34

WATCH BBC2 NOW

TheOtherMaryPoppinsFleckles · 17/11/2008 18:48

goodness James can be a nasty bastard, saying he had counted on Lisa crumbling and he was happy that he felt she was going to!

oooh very glad they are off now.

belgo · 17/11/2008 18:57

Funny to see Claudia flustered when Brian complimented her on her sequined trousers

TheOtherMaryPoppinsFleckles · 17/11/2008 19:01

He probably wanted a wee shot of them ;)

Febes · 17/11/2008 19:55

All the air time and hype they give this issue is making it worse!!! I agree if John had gone this week then it would have still been Cherie/ Lisa/ Jodie/ ?? in the dance off so he's not changing the whole competition. The best dancers will stay in. Most of us are happy with the Cherie decision on the weekend and apart from John it was her time to go.

squeaver · 17/11/2008 20:48

Can anyone remember how long Kenny Logan lasted last year? Was it as long as John has done?

Haven't watched ITT, but will do in the morning - can't wait now!

FuriousGeorge · 17/11/2008 21:35

Does anyone a tape or DVD of Saturdays episode, that they'd be willing to let me have? The bit I really want is Austin and Erin's rehearsal,as dd1 is on it,and I'd like a cop to keep for her,so as long as that bit is on it,it would great.I'd be happy to pay postage/costs ect.

Thankyou!

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 17/11/2008 21:39

you can download from iplayer

pleasechange · 17/11/2008 21:44

Brian was great again on ITT with Craig.

Just watched the Sun results show on ITT - James doesn't do himself any favours at all. He comes across as an arrogant t**t and he clearly doesn't realise that this is part of the reason he doesn't get many votes. Instead of being annoyed at being voted out 'early' (Gabbie/Cherie) maybe he should lighten up

Clayhead · 17/11/2008 21:47

Kenny Logan lasted until week nine and was in the final five couples (Letitica, Gethin, Matt & Flavia still left).

FuriousGeorge · 17/11/2008 21:47

Oh thanks Lurker.I've tried iplayer lots of times, but it doesn't seem to work.It took 2 hours last night and I only got to see as far as the titles. But then I'm crap at technical stuff,so will get my sister or someone more able to try.

squeaver · 17/11/2008 21:49

Thanks clayhead. I'd have said he was as bad as John, so why the HUUUUGE fuss this year, I wonder?

Tigerschick · 18/11/2008 07:27

Tis a good point, Squeaver.
If you go back to serise one and two, Christopher Parker and Julien Clarey both made it to the final But, in both cases, the best dancers won in the end ...

carrotsandpeasifyouplease · 18/11/2008 07:53

agree with Febes, and why aren't they up in arms about the other not so good dancers, even if john wasnt in it then by their reckoning Christina and Jodie should be in the dance off and they weren't.
i'm not sure whether i actually want to BE Kristina or just have a girly crush.

Annthecat · 18/11/2008 09:12

I am voting for John Sergeant and I will next week too.

I am really pissed off with the attitude that 'the public have to understand it's a dance competition'.

No, it's a reality show where they get celebrities to dance and compete. Not the same thing.

If it was just a dance competeition no one would be watching it, and it wouldn't be on the telly. How long since Come Dancing was televised, or on at midnight at the most??

It's prime time for it's entertainment.

They put celebrities who are quite clearly not going to be great dancers in it, alongside others who quite clearly have a huge initial advantage, such as previous dance experience and physique. Should there be some agreement for the likes of John sergenat, that he can be in the contest for the first few weeks for the amusement factor and then he has to leave to leave it to the 'really good dancers???'.

NO!

We can vote becauyse we like thier dancing, or becuse they try really hard, or because they are funny, or just seem really nice, or even to piss the jusdges off.

and if the likes of James don't like that, then he can get off my telly on a Saturday night and go back to the cruies liners, or Tunbridge Wells Assmebly rooms, or wherever, professional dancers do their thing in real life, and get judged purely on the dancing. and if he feels that strongly about it, he can take Cheries Lungi with him and see how far he gets then.

It's a celebrity reality show. Get over yourself.

Vote John.

bagsforlife · 18/11/2008 09:29

Yes, agree with Annthecat. It is an entertainment show, and if you are going to get the Great British Public involved then you have to accept their views. They are the ones being entertained.

The only reason it is a success is beause it is a mixture of good dancing and bad. If it was just the professionals dancing, it would be like Come Dancing was (and I am old enough to remember how bad it was) and no-one would watch it. Hence, the invention of Strictly. So the judges and the professional dancers should be glad they have been taken up by a prime time show otherwise they'd still be hoofing the boards in Tunbridge Wells or whatever.

May not vote for John next week though

MrsTweedy · 18/11/2008 09:37

John was great on ITT last night and he has a very valid viewpoint, plus I think people are also voting for Kristina who has worked with him brilliantly. After all, he is only delaying an exit by a week. I very much doubt either Cherie or Lisa would be in the final, I don't think they are liked very much by the public. I'm voting for Jodie as I love the way she & Ian get on! Will be voting for Austin to win though.

Brian has really gone up in my estimation from appearing to be a braggish Yank to a lovely man and a fantastic dancer. I hope they keep him and Kristina on for the next series as they've enlivened up the professionals no end.

annaje · 18/11/2008 09:41

The whole thing is out of proportion. Personally I would rather see a good dancer reach the final, but that is just my preference. I think people decide who they want to win very early on and it's a popularity contest as is all reality TV. There is very little to do with achievement. A lot of people vote for Austin and Tom because they think they're hot (although before I get slated - yes I know they are good dancers too) - a lot are voting for Jodie because she seems like a nice girl.

Annthecat · 18/11/2008 09:45

I love Brian too.

I thought his dancing was just fantastic, definitely the best male professional, and was disappointed when he and Heather went out as we wouldn't see him.

Then saw him on ITT and he is also very bright, sharp and funny.

He's brilliant.

(Lilia is my favourite female professional dancer.)

Saker · 18/11/2008 10:09

FuriousGeorge - I am not sure you are allowed to download permanently off iplayer are you? If not, I still have the episode on the dvd player and can copy it to disc for you if you CAT me with your address.

I am sort of torn about John. I agree he shouldn't really be there, but I don't feel it's the end of the world. I can understand the other dancers all get very caught up in the intensity of it all and at the time it must seem like the be all and end all, but when they keep showing all the bits with them saying how gutted they would be to get put out, I can't help thinking there's more important things to worry about. Also John is working and training hard, it's not that he is just mucking about and I bet underneath that jokey exterior even he is a bit hurt by the judges' comments.
Having said that John is playing to the audience unashamedly and I can imagine his popularity backstage is beginning to diminish a bit now. I think people will just start to get bored with him and then he will go.
