Here we go...

OP posts:
pinkteddy · 16/11/2008 21:53

squeaver I think I read somewhere that they add up all the votes and then score them from 1 - 8 (or however many are still left in the competition) the same way as the award points according to the judges scores and then add them together. So on that basis (if my maths is correct) John and Kristina wouldn't necessarily need to have the highest no of votes to stay in.

I have confused myself now!

beansprout · 16/11/2008 21:55

The judges vote counts for 50% as does the public's. I assume that they then rank them based on the public vote and allocate points for each place. But I don't actually know!

It's embarassing to watch Rachel's fiance. Poor man.

dizzydixies · 16/11/2008 22:03

beansprout - agree completely - that man protessts too much me thinks

themoon66 · 16/11/2008 22:33

Disagree about James... He said what we are all thinking.

DH nodded in sagely manner at his words.

Countingthegreyhairs · 17/11/2008 00:30

Lone voice in the wilderness....

I'm glad John stayed (if this sort of outcome is deemed unfair or unacceptable then they should change the rules!!)

Besides, if you lose 2 stone in a matter of months as John Sergeant has, you haven't exactly been idling - especially at the age of 64. He's not completely devoid of rhythm or panache either ... good luck to him is what I say ...

I would have preferred Rachel to go out instead of Cherie though. (If I can wear a costume like Cherie's when I'm 56, never mind do the leg kicks, then I'll be a very happy woman indeed. I don't think she comes across as "too perfect" either; I just find her professional and confident as befits a successful, mature, actress.)

Sticking up for the wrinklies here!!!

Failing that, I'd like Jodie to win as Lisa is a bit over-smarmy for my tastes ...

Oh dear I really must go to bed .....

Freckle · 17/11/2008 06:56

I think it's a combination of older people wanting to keep in John, as he is very amusing, and a whole slew of other people voting to piss off the judges.

I did notice that the judges toned down their remarks for J&K this week. Still didn't stop him staying in, but perhaps they are getting the message that the more they insult him, the more likely he is to be voted in by the public.

Tigerschick · 17/11/2008 08:02

I am disappointed with the result. But, a bit like last week, I can't get too upset about them leaving as I wasn't too keen on either of them. I don't blame James for speaking out - don't watch ITT if you don't want to see more of the same tonight!!

With the voting ... John got 1 point from the judges; Lisa got 2 points and Cherie got 3. So, in order for the result to go the way it did last night, John just needed to get more public votes than Cherie and Lisa. If he got 3 points from the public; Lisa got 2 and Cherie got 1 then they'd all be tied on 4 but John would go thru as whoever gets the highest public vote stays in. ... Hope that makes sense!!

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 17/11/2008 08:42

if they are unhappy about the results, they'll have to stop fleecing the public with the phone lines and let the judges make the decisions

i find it it all very entertaining

dizzydixies · 17/11/2008 09:34

I personally don't mind that John stayed in, they're missing the point that although this IS a dancing contest its CELEBRITY entrants that have been invited onto the show - was he just invited to make sure there were some crap ones to go out in the first few weeks?

He is charming, witty and entertaining and Kristina is an absolute bombshell who must be very talented to make him look as good as he's managed to do

this isn't a show where amateurs have earned their place and are fighting to perform for a life changing career/record deal etc - its an entertainment show where people who are already in the public eye are being taught a new talent to perform in front of the public who then in turn vote for their favourite, who cares if he isn't as efficient as the others - he's obviously enjoying it

Am not sure if anyone else noticed but after their last dance Cherie went over to applaud the band etc completely snubbing Lisa who was walking towards her - now I'm not a huge fan of Lisa but really? could you be bothered making that much of an issue of it all - am sure they all get their fees regardless?

it is a shame that she's out as her ballroom was outstanding but its not really that important in the whole scheme of things is it?

HappyMummyOfOne · 17/11/2008 10:14

I noticed Cherie snub Lisa too, rather childish I thought and I am glad she is gone. Never took to her or James.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 17/11/2008 10:41

Okay so they could change the voting the following ways....

  1. (I mentioned this earlier in the thread)
They have 2 phone lines, one to vote out and one to vote in.
  1. You are only able to vote for the bottom 3 - to save one. They would do the dance off for the bottom two and the judges make the final decision.
mrsmortenharket · 17/11/2008 12:10

i watched it but can't remember what james said ...

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 17/11/2008 12:24

i WAS the original Mrs Morten Harket (i was 14)

nice to meet you mrsmortenharket markII

Boyswillbeboys · 17/11/2008 12:48

Can someone tell me - is it only the celebrities that are being judged then, cos Brendan nearly dropped Lisa in the dance-off! So, if they are judging the best dance in the dance-off it should have been Lisa and Brendan who went cos they made mistakes!! Oh I wish Lisa had gone, I just hate all her false modesty. It seems to be this series that the ballroom dances get the highest marks, so it was just bad luck that Lisa and Cherie had Latin dances. If it had been Jodie doing the Samba this week she probably would have gone. I am so pleased she is still in though - and I'm really looking forward to seeing what John comes up with next week - like Tess said I'd love to see him attempt a jive

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 17/11/2008 13:10

I disagree about the false modesty. I loved her expression when she danced the samba. She looked carefree and full of fun, whereas Cherie looked like her leotard was working it's way up between her bumcheeks. And I like Cherie.

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 17/11/2008 13:20

i like Lisa, she seems quite girly and fun

Majeika · 17/11/2008 13:23

Cherie didnt snub Lisa imho as they had already given each other a big hug and it looked sincere to me.

Cherie has a fabbbbbbb figure but I really wasnt sure about that outfit on Saturday.

Lisa bugs me.

Tom is hot hot hot!

Austin is as hot hot hot!

John is great and if the judges didnt give him such a hard time then he wouldnt get the votes!

Rachel - meh!
Christine - meh!
Jodie - meh!

Austin or Tom to win for me!!

Saker · 17/11/2008 14:10

Ooh I don't know how you can like Tom, he is so wet you could wring him out. He is a very good dancer though.

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 17/11/2008 14:16

he is as cute as a button

and his arse also

Freckle · 17/11/2008 14:16

I don't think Lisa can win either way - either she is falsely modest or she is arrogant in the knowledge that she is good. Still can't warm to her nor to Rachel. Not sure why.

I really didn't expect to like Jodie, but she's such fun and the relationship between her and Ian is obviously very affectionate and genuine.

The best dancer is clearly Austin, so he should win, but who knows.

RTKangaMummy · 17/11/2008 14:22

IIRC the judges vote makes them have

1st = 8 points
2nd = 7
3rd = 6
4th = 5
5th = 4
6th = 3
7th = 2
8th = 1

and then the public vote goes the same way so

most phone calls = 8 points
least phone calls = 1 point

and then the points are added together

so the judges top place can still be out if they get the least public votes cos their total would be 9

whereas John has 1 point from judges but has most votes makes his total be 9 too

but if the judges put fred & ginger with 5 points and they are only getting 2 points from public they are out cos their total is 7

So basically everyone must get higher than 9 points to beat john

Does that explain it?

squeaver · 17/11/2008 14:39

Yes it does! Thanks RTK!

Tigerschick · 17/11/2008 14:45

That's how I understand it to work RTK - but you are assuming that John gets the most votes ... for all we know, he could only be getting one or two more than whoever finished 3rd from bottom with the judges ...

I was listening to Jeremy Vine earlier when he was 'discussing' it - he blatantly thought that it was a subject well beneath his high-brow jounalistic standards which really annoyed me, if he didn't want to do the story, he shouldn't have bothered ... but that's a whole other thread.
It occurred to me that, as the show progresses, it should work that John gets voted out. Atm he's getting lots of votes but I wouldn't mind betting that if you added up all the votes that the other contestants get, it'd amount to more. The trouble is that the other votes are being shared too widely. What I mean is, say John gets 2 votes and everyone else gets 7 between them, that's one each ... well, next week, there will be one less person for the other 7 votes to be shared between ... I know that that is massively simplified but, surely it's logical ... my point is that it's not a fore-gone conclusion that he will win because of the apparent campaign to keep him in.

squeaver · 17/11/2008 14:59

And that also means that he has to get the most votes every single week.

PollyParanoia · 17/11/2008 15:04

Ooo love the fact that Strictly voting procedures are getting sort of scrutiny and analysis not seen since the hanging chads of florida 2000.
I am thinking I am going to have to vote for all the other contestants just to get John out. This is v expensive. Wish they had negative voting as someone else has suggested.
On a different note, always thought that Austin was about as sexy as a piece of toe fluff, but then Sunday... oh my god that stubbley pouty thing going on... I felt vague stirrings of libido which given that I'm breastfeeding (kills my mojo) and have too many children was quite an achievement on his part.
And I thought Tom's salsa was amazing even if he is an irritant.
