In case she's not around, it stands for 'Russell T Davies'.

Agree - bonekickers was really dreadful. Funny thread on it though.

serenity · 09/07/2008 10:04

RTD = Russell T Davis

Agree about Bonekickers - I should have stuck to watching The Matrix on Sky, it was awful (and not in a 'so bad I have to watch it' way either)

really disappointed to hear that Bonekickers was a bag of y-fronts.

Yeah, RTD ist Russell T Davies, he of the brilliant build up and the hit 'n' miss resolution.

My Project for Autumn is usually obsessively preparing for Christmas. Although we have, in the last two weeks, finally got the box set of series Three, so I might do a rewatch in sequence.

Random question - favourite episodes from over all four series of Nu-Who. You could do a top ten. I'm going to ponder and post in a bit.

In the meantime I have to check some workbooks and change a stinky nappy... my sci-fi life is just so exciting...

MegReally · 09/07/2008 11:10

ooh rewatching is a good project! Especially since I can't remember a damn thing about anything.

Favourite episodes eh? oooh now then. We're prob going to back to lovely Chrissy Eccleston as far as I'm concerned.

squilly · 09/07/2008 13:31

I'm with you MegReally. Chris Eccleston and Billie Piper are my faves.

We haven't enjoyed this last series quite as much as the previous ones. I don't know why, cos I liked Donna more than Martha...I just think the missing sexual tension flattened things out a little. Or maybe it was just that my dd wasn't as impressed. Hard to say.

Having said that, Saturday nights are going to be much, much duller without DW. Even when they're not on top form, they still beat the pants off of anything else on telly. And DT is worth watching regardless of how good the programme is!

I'm ashamed to say that I've been hunting down fanfic since reading the links on here. None of it has been as good as the stuff on here, so far, but it's a big pool of material and I've only dipped my toe so far!

This is one of the best threads....

KayHarker · 09/07/2008 13:55

Right-o, in no particular order, my ten favourite stories from the new series - first five in one post, second five a bit later.

Father's day, First series with Eccles and Bille. The whole thing hinged on the story, and it wasn't straight-forward 'Doctor waves the sonic and all is well'. Showed the sweetness of the relationship between the Doctor and Rose, from the big majestic acts of sacrifice to the little touches in the dialogue (In response to Rose teasing him about being like Father Christmas 'Who says I not? Red Bicycle when you were twelve.. etc' this is not exact word for word, mind, rough gist)

The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, First series with Eccles and Billie. It's still one of my favourites because the eerie works so well, and the Doctor is just so very Doctorish, and there's running in corridors, and jaw-dropping innuendo. I think Moffat's characterization of Rose is also much better here than in Girl in the Fireplace.

Parting of the Ways, first series finale. Daleks actually being scary, real devastation that isn't reset, RTD having the balls to kill a very likeable possible companion (Lynda) and in a really quite disturbing death, too, and the perfect ending for the battle-scarred Ninth Doctor.

The Christmas Invasion, with Ten and Rose. Best by far of all the Christmas specials, and one of the best Doctor-lite stories (probably because it wasn't officially Doctor-lite, but anyway). It's funny, it's a bit epic, Harriet Jones is a great character, and the Doctor opening the TARDIS in his pyjamas with 'Did you miss me?' is one of the very best Who moments, ever.

Fear Her. Nah, just kidding.

The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit. Ten and Rose. Primarily because it scared the crap out of me, but also because it took the Doctor way out of his comfort zone, with the actual Devil in front of him, but also because of having to perhaps think about settling down with Rose. Big and little, which is always good. The supporting cast are brilliant, and the TARDIS rescues the Doctor. All good.

Sorry, didn't mean to attempt to out-ponce anyone (I'm Who fan, let's be realistic here...) Just added the titles so that you can go back and watch and stuff, although I have rather spoilered a few now [doh]

serenity · 09/07/2008 17:02

OK....in series order, because I'm running my eye down the list of episodes to remind myself.

Empty Child/Doctor Dances - because it's just sheer genius. It's more than just the story, it's how well Moffat writes the characters themselves. Plus I love the whole Jack/Rose/Nine interaction

Christmas Invasion - so many good memories with this. As much as I liked CE, I thought DT was bloody brilliant in Casanova and I couldn't wait to see all that energy in DW. Speaking of which, wasn't the 'Did you miss me' bit borrowed from Casanova....must rewatch it and see.

Human Nature/Family of Blood (the ones with the scarecrows Dior) - Angst, love it Doctor getting angry and godlike always makes me happy as well. I always have this feeling that he's holding back - that he could be all powerful (as mentioned in School Reunion actually), but he reigns it in, so seeing a glimpse of him let loose is quite exciting.

Blink - still don't tire of this, and it still creeps me out (and it's inspired some really rather good fanfic)

Utopia - The last 15 minutes make my stomach twist even after watching it a thousand times. The Master, the Doctor, Captain Jack, lots of running, lots of angst (see above) Doctor/Jack flirting

KayHarker · 09/07/2008 17:22

I haven't seen Casanova [innocent]

serenity · 09/07/2008 17:33

You haven't watched Casanova? Are you telling porkie pies Kay?

serenity · 09/07/2008 17:33

Should be a on the end of that btw!

Gizmo · 09/07/2008 17:35

Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy????

You're winding us up, no?

MegReally · 09/07/2008 17:38

Casanova's fine, in its way, but there's too much Peter O Bleedin Toole. He makes me feel a bit queazy.

And I am coming to the distinct conclusion that it's fantasy that pushes my buttons. Costume drama with totty and sex is fine, no problem with it per se, but I don't end up thinking about it after. But then you're speaking to the woman who got bored during the historical flashbacks in Buffy.

[airhead]

I want to watch Series 1 now. All that mention of the Dr Dances has done it for me. Stay where you are, I'm just popping to Lovefilm for a mo

KayHarker · 09/07/2008 17:41

What on earth would give you the idea that I've seen Casanova? David Tennant in blue contacts having comedy sex and doing lots of yearning looks? Why would I have seen that?

KayHarker · 09/07/2008 17:42

In all honesty, I've only seen it in segments on Youtube. Not appropriate viewing in this house, sadly.

MegReally · 09/07/2008 17:43

I didn't like the blue contacts. They reminded me too much of Peter O Bleedin Toole. Which I know is the point, and all, but it didn't do it for me.

KayHarker · 09/07/2008 17:55

They do come across a bit odd in the pictures, sometimes. Funnily enough, it's never been a problem to watch DT and be thinking about Peter O Bleedin Toole(tm). I always find I'm thinking about DT. Actually, maybe that's a general problem I need to address

Bit of Casanova I have seen which sticks in the mind (and has cropped up in my fic from time to time because it was rather good) is when he's propositioned by the two sisters and he replies with his voice pitched rather high. Rather amusing and strangely sexy...

JackieNo · 09/07/2008 18:38

Kay, you wouldn't like Casanova. Really you wouldn't. Far too much sex.

edam · 09/07/2008 18:46

Oh, I hated the Empty Child. The whole concept of the little boy running around asking 'are you my Mummy' was just too painful. Apologies for being over-sensitive but it was unbearable.

Loved Midnight - very nice to get a proper thriler. And the Agatha Christie one was fab. Lovely stuff about writing and books 'n all that. I always like serious writers who confess to a Christie addiction (or Heyer). And that scene with the doctor in the kitchen trying to tell Donna what he needed was great comedy.

Blink was great (still makes me shudder when I think about it).

The finale where Rose was left on the beach the first time (can't remember what it's called) has to be the very best episode ever, though.

edam · 09/07/2008 18:47

The Dickens one with Gwen as the maid was horrible, now I come to think of it.

RustyBear · 09/07/2008 18:55

School Reunion - but then I'm a Classic fan, so love anything retro

Girl in the Fireplace -unregenerate Moffat fan- and I liked the bit at the end, where the audience found out why they went after Madame de P, but the Doctor never did

Blink, of course

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/07/2008 18:57

Oooh! I've got some catching up to do on this thread [excited]

I will also prepare my top ten list but I can say with some certainty that Doomsday features at the top (ending always makes me watery-eyed), and Blink is great too.
