It’s sad I can’t binge it all, but maybe having to wait till next week may be better . I have a few dramas on tne go and they can get a bit muddled up sometimes !

CrossPurposes · 23/09/2026 22:47

That ending was spoilt by the review in the Telegraph. So bloody annoying.

MsAlignment · 23/09/2026 23:02

I gather it had already been widely leaked / announced, @CrossPurposes.

I’ve read the novels - though they do change things for the adaptations. But I can see it must have been annoying.

I'm usually quite adroit at avoiding spoilers but I did rather foolishly assume that by reading a review of episode one that I wouldn't be spoilt for episode two!

I should have known better. I'll survive 🙂

MsAlignment · 23/09/2026 23:24

A Times reviewer last week made a mistake and announced the development as having occurred in Ep1. Don’t know if that was the same with the Telegraph.

I tried to wait until I had a few to see , but couldn’t wait . It is good and an interesting premise . River’s dad is very cold and the scene at the funeral was breathtakingly horrible .

I know he has been in it before . I think as there is such a long gap between series , I can’t remember much from before . Although this season seemed to come around quickly .

I should probably re -watch them all , but am usually a bit loath to do this- as can usually remember what happened in the finale - even if can’t remember much else !

Gary Oldman is brilliant in it , but am also slightly grossed out by his behaviour Envy.

Down Cemetery Road was ok . Good characters - but somehow just didn’t work .

I walked past her on a tube platform a while ago, but by the time I'd realised who it was she was gone. No chance for me to fangirl.

Hotafternoon · 25/09/2026 10:07

I've had to binge watch all previous series since last week after I watched ep 1 of new series and realised I'd forgotten what had happened by the end of series 5. I have square eyes now.

I'm not sure whether to wait till all episodes have been aired and then watch continuously or watch each week.

Decisions, decisions 🤔

mmmarmalade · 25/09/2026 11:39

I'm just starting series 4 of Slow Horses and already finding it a bit limited - the characters and their back stories aren't fleshing out much and the focus is still on fast paced events on a cinematic scale - the same level of implausibility seen in Bond movies. I think it's a bit over rated TBH. There are some great characters and acting but only on a superficial level - it's driven by the fast paced narrative more than the characters - just when you think you're going to learn a bit more about a character something dramatic happens so it's always going sideways not deeper which is what I'd prefer.

MsAlignment · 25/09/2026 11:53

I have to agree @mmmarmalade! It’s great fun to watch but the lack of character development has always frustrated me. It’s worthy of praise, but maybe not the level of praise it receives - which I sometimes feel might be related to the status of some of the actors in it.

Second episode was good, except I was extremely annoyed by the "tobacco causes cancer" text which flashed on the screen ever time you saw Lamb, even though he wasn't smoking. I mean are the youth of today really going to see Jackson Lamb as a role model?

I don't really agree about the characters, they have enough personality for the story and you care enough about them to be slightly shocked when they're killed off.

I think Mick Herron does do unusually good female characters for a (male) thriller writer but it doesn't necessarily carry over to the TV.

Is Kay White ever mentioned in the books? I couldn’t remember and I wasn’t sure if we were meant to know her name or not.

She is, but the retcon her for the show. She wasn't included at all. She was in the first book and worked with Ho, but he found her annoying I know.

She was made as a historic figure that Ho and others never met. Think she was kicked out of MI5 main for lose lips, you would of thought that would of been noted in induction or hiring and told thanks, but no thanks as I am assume they will not notify you, but they will have ways to test out these types for obvious reasons.

I've read all the books, and the short stories, and this series combines 2 books iirc.
A lot will happen and some of it very sad.
I thought it was great, but I often wonder about Guardian tv reviews...they seem to be watching a different show to me 🤷‍♀️

I find guardian seems to be paid to be snobby for snobby stake about shows not on their first run.

I agree the reviewer never read the books and on S6 you have built enough on who is who in the show you don't need bang crash every season and you can see by combing the 2 books they were worried that each wouldn't carry for TV well as they are bit more group goes off rather than massive world threat and one was very Louise based in the book and could of been slow burning.

Oh, I didn’t see the tobacco thing!

EasternStandard · 28/09/2026 08:23

Really good so far. Enjoying it much more than the last series.

the80sweregreat · 28/09/2026 08:24

I didn’t notice the tobacco warning either.

I wonder if I'm watching from US apple TV? Will try UK next time, we have a UK sub but I usually watch on a VPN.

It is very annoying indeed, bad enough when the kids demand subtitles because reasons. 🙃

CrossPurposes · 28/09/2026 10:08

It was bottom right of the screen. Not clear why it's just tobacco that gets a warning though I suspect if it was also alcohol consumption then the on screen warning would be near permanent.

(I think this warning might only be shown in certain countries.)

Slow Horses S6! Weekly release.

The lack of characterisation in this has always bothered me but I keep watching because of the wonderful acting. Increasingly there’s a samey feeling to the stories and situations but it’s still better than average viewing, way above the crap the BBC, ITV and Channel Five churn out (most of the time). I’ve read they’re preparing for series eight.

the80sweregreat · 28/09/2026 10:14

It is very different and well acted , I do love it and all the different characters and personalities they have.

I bet that's it.

AlwaysExtraHot · 28/09/2026 11:27

I don't have a problem with the lack of character development. It's not a character-driven thing of the kind where interest lies in and depends on them changing and growing etc. I like that we basically know who the characters are and how they interact with each other, and we see them each respond in their own ways to each situation/problem.

the80sweregreat · 30/09/2026 17:15

Good one today. Very gripping.

the80sweregreat · 30/09/2026 18:45

The two assassins are so sinister. I’d be scared of those two ;(
