Last nights DPD case update was very good

I can. It happened to me in the seventies and the police thought it was a joke. They arrived at the home smirking after an assault. Can't see that they've changed much.

Sorry but I don’t agree. The police are a lot better with “domestic violence” (I absolutely hate that phrase) than they were in the 70s.

I’m sorry that you had that experience.

I think she did gave options though which probably weren’t available 50 years ago. She could have applied for a non-molestation order, spoken to Right of Women and Women’s Aid.

Its still tragic though that a Woman is killed by someone that they are either on a relationship with or have been every third day.

Just finished the last one and came here hoping to find a thread on it. If you haven't seen it yet don't read the next para as it pertains to the 4th episode Killer in the home.

I think we really need to push the govt to push through and finalise the changes that mean men who murder the mother of their child still have parental responsibility for their kids and can demand they live with them or stop them going to certain schools or on holidays from prison etc. I even heard one teen had to move in with him when he was released and was effectively left with him to "look after her" knowing full well he had murdered their mum! Similarly the one which grants peodophiles PR as well. They are still not finalised so anyone committing these crimes today will still have PR for the kids' they traumatised.

I’ve just watched the latest episode. A life sentence with a minimum of 15 years is an absolute disgrace.

The 2 shared children will barely be adults when he is eligible for his first parole hearing. How are they meant to navigate their childhood and teenage years after what he has done? And then as young adults, have to deal with the fact that he might get out?

I completely agree that any parent who murders the other parent, no matter the circumstances, should automatically lose parental responsibility for any shared children.

Something that struck me watching the Cheryl episode is that one would assume that there is been a long history of violence, but that didn’t appear to be the case.

He was aggressive, controlling and violent within the home (smashing up the house etc). She was deeply unhappy and had left the relationship. She had found love with someone else but like many people, had to stay living under the same roof as her ex.

Cheryl was trying to get out and make a new life. And that’s why he killed her. The “If I can’t have you, no one can” brand of violence.

So many times on MN I have seen women leaving an abusive relationship be advised to be very careful. That the leaving point is when a woman is at her most vulnerable. What happened to Cheryl shows us that this is most certainly true.

I'm watching the 2nd half of episode 2 with Laura and Theresa and it says Laura was back living with her mum but social services still have full control of her finances? Isn't that weird then? Surely Theresa would have had to pay for things for her?

Then it says Theresa's had an unexpected bill come through from a daycare facility which she's got to find and pay. Why does she have to do that then when it's just said social services are in control of the finances for Laura?

I don't get that

Very sad regarding Laura and Theresa. I didn't understand the financial situation as well. Oh my heart breaks for them.

I thought they were trying to show how the financial situation had escalated. Not only did the mum not have access to Laura's money/benefits but was expected to foot the 2k bill for her care without access to it. I thought that might have been the gist of it. I guess most of us assume that the care money would be used to pay for their care, but in this case no one else had access?

Just caught up with this last night, it’s so depressing how many men kill their partners. Why do they do it? Why do men feel so angry about a woman wanting to leave them?

It makes me despair of men.

Poor kids who end up loosing both parents and to murder your child’s mother or their birthday is evil. 15 years is a joke 🤬

I remember the DPD murder thread from last year but couldn’t find it

in that thread i recall people asking about what happened to the other DPD courier with the victim, and what happened to the other suspects. I guess we know now! A bit odd that they held some footage back, from the previous episodes but I’m glad all involved were investigated etc. still can’t believe such a crime occurred in England, absolutely barbaric

I started this yesterday; from the beginning, season 1 episode 1.. it’s bingeable!

Yeah i remember last year people online saying how the victim was a criminal or involved with gangs etc as if to say it was deserved
