I thought that Holly was very determined to position herself as Schofield’s bestie, using his fame to get herself better known. The same way Amanda Holden did with Les Dennis, albeit that was through a marriage.
When Schofield came out as gay, I thought her interview with him was really distasteful. He was blowing his life apart and there was a wife and teenage children trying to process everything, and she was squealing about whether there was a new man on the horizon. Just really disrespectful to Schofield’s family and unnecessary.
I disliked their queue jumping but not so much the actual event but their behaviour around it. Even after they were clearly told to provide an explanation, they were arrogant and superior. I remember watching the segment and thinking “they’re not even sorry - they’re angry that they’ve been called out”.
After everyone knew that Schofield was gay, Holly was permanently attached to him. They had holiday houses in Portugal next to each other.
But when it all came out about Schofield and the runner, Holly ditched him faster than she could blink. Their lives were entwined - there’s nothing anyone could say to convince me that she didn’t know and/or turn a blind eye. Others knew who weren’t anywhere near as close to Schofield as Holly - it’s naive to think she didn’t know what was going on.
It’s not about blaming a woman for a man’s crimes - Schofield shoulders full responsibility for his grim behaviour. But she was a willing accomplice and was happy to go along with it while it benefitted her before dropping him like a stone when he fell out of favour. If people hadn’t turned a blind eye to abusers like Savile, Rolf Harris, Gary Glitter etc, kids wouldn’t have been abused. Schofield may not be in that bracket, but the principle is the same. Ignoring what’s going on - especially when you are willing to turn a blind eye to benefit your career - makes you complicit in abuse, and I’m not interested in supporting anyone like that.
