Did all those Italians get on a plane to Paris for the end of the match? Grin

Frances still trying to return when he slipped and is flat on the court!

Crazy rally!

Well done Matteo. Neither of them deserved to lose. Poor Frances worked so hard too. What a match that was. 5 hours, 26 minutes!

Saw the result earlier- so many long matches. But - another Italian goes through. Well done to Matteo. Will be a hard loss for Frances.

Fizzywinegum · Yesterday 09:01

There have been so many long five set matches this tournament - can’t believe there are so many Italians left (even without Jannik) - there may be some Matteo confusion Grin

Jodar and Zverev could be interesting later - Sascha might be feeling the pressure of possibly being the favourite to win now

I’ve watched all of the Rafa documentary now - it made me a bit sad - I hope that he’s enjoying his family now and that his body isn’t too wrecked Sad

Raahh · Yesterday 09:12

I found the documentaru hard to watch in parts, Fizzy- despite having seen it all happen 'in real time'.

One bit stood out- after his last match at RG, I think it was , he was talking in the car about records - I never really thought he was big on records, but i suppose they all are, to some extent. Of course, they are all competitive. But he seemed quite keen to be reassured that his record at RG would be harder to break than even Djok's overall grandslam one. I thought that was quite interesting.
He was broken in the locker room Sad

But ugh- that lump on his foot. I hate feet ! Grin.

Fizzywinegum · Yesterday 09:33

Yes I thought that about when he was talking about his RG record Raahh - it seemed to go against everything that he said publicly and obviously meant a lot to him that he thought his record was less likely to be broken than Djokovic’s

Yikes that lump on his foot - the worrying thing was that Rafa didn’t seem bothered by it! Someone said that it looked like an alien Grin

He seemed like a bit of a tortured soul - hopefully he’s found some peace now - although I think he would probably say that the suffering and pain was worth it - that’s just how he was and probably why he was so good to watch

This tournament is just full of twists and turns.

Raahh · Yesterday 10:29

It was a really good documentary Fizzy- and I think the very best thing that happened - and the timing couldn't have been better for him- was the birth of his sons. It's given him soemthing to focus on. He said at oe point he wouldn't have dc whilst he was still an active player- but carried on playing for so long after he made that statement. He is clearly really close to his family.

It was funny when Mary said he was still living with his parents the year before they actually got married- they had been a couple years at that point, and he was 32!

Raahh · Yesterday 10:31

Mirra is on great form this morning, about to bagel Cirstea.
On paper, this could have looked like it might have been close (Sorana has been playing well all week).

ChessieFL · Yesterday 10:50

I’m away with work today so just score watching. Pleased to see Mirra has started well but I’m not going to count my chickens as there’s been too many comebacks already this tournament!

JaneJeffer · Yesterday 11:05

Well done Mirra

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · Yesterday 11:07

Is she asking Fabrice what she should say? Grin

OP posts:
IceandIndigo · Yesterday 11:07

Well done Mirra, couldn't watch the match, but that's certainly a dominant scoreline.

IceandIndigo · Yesterday 11:11

I am waiting to watch the Rafa documentary until next week when DH is away for work. That way I can cry without him making fun of me!

JaneJeffer · Yesterday 11:13

I guess she was telling him she wouldn’t know what to say if he asked about her next opponent because he never mentioned it and they usually do. She won’t be getting a lovely hug at the net next time like Sorana gave her today!

Cirstea was holding her own at 3-3 in th second- but I looked away, and
Andreeva won.

Well done Mirra.

No- it's an all Ukraine affair, the next match, isn't ?
