Episodes 1 and 2 will air on Sunday, May 31 and Monday, June 1. The rest of the series continues next week on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays.

The story follows two next-door neighbors in Manchester over the course of an escalating neighborhood dispute:
• Leo (Alan Cumming): A gay man who runs a bar on the famous Canal Street in Manchester's Gay Village.
• Clive (David Morrissey): An electrician with two teenage sons who harbors underlying prejudices.

The situation spirals out of control when Leo locks himself out of his house and has to ask his neighbor for a spare key.

This single event triggers a collision of worlds, unearthing mistrust and bigotry, which is further complicated when Leo strikes up a friendship with one of Clive's sons—who happens to be secretly gay.

The five-part drama will follow Leo and Clive who live next door to each other in Manchester. Leo runs a bar on Canal Street, while Clive is an electrician, with two teenage sons. But just as life should be settling down, the world around them is growing more tense.

According to the official synopsis, "Words become weapons, opinions become radicalised, and gradually, two neighbours become deadly enemies in a tense, suburban thriller which challenges everything we consider to be safe."

•	Alan Cumming as Leo
•	David Morrissey as Clive
•	Pooky Quesnel as Marie, Clive’s wife
•	Jackson Connor as George, Clive’s son
•	Joseph Evans as Saul, Clive’s son
•	Elizabeth Berrington as Stephanie, Leo’s best friend
•	Iz Hesketh as Zee
•	Shakeel Kimotho as Hanna
•	Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Judy
•	Paul Rhys as Melba
•	Charlie Condou as Curtis, Leo’s ex-husband
•	Denise Welch as Diane

I'm finding it all difficult because I keep waiting for the incident that tips into the lynching.

Now we know what the FLO reference is anyway.

There are still bits where I keep saying "you wouldn't do that". I wouldn't have started the conversation with Clive about George with "It was a mistake" and I would definitely not engage George in any of his online conspiracy theories. I get the "why should we keep apologising?" mentality but you'd want to just deescalate the atmosphere after that fight.

Recap e3 isn’t showing yet. Grrrrr from last night

I’m totally confused - so Clive leapt to the defence of the teacher dressed as a woman and punched the kids lynching her

then After filming them he has a wank watching the video at home

didn’t understand the George pic popping up above all the houses

does that mean his dad has now seen him in make up ?

I finished watching it (deliberately) after dropping my infant daughter at nursery, as I knew (from friend’s messages etc) what to expect/to be upset. It was absolutely devastating. Keen to discuss further as I cannot sleep…

Rollercoaster1920 · 08/06/2026 22:52

The George over houses is to show how stuff spreads on social media by people sharing.

Tigresswoods · 08/06/2026 22:54

Same @CodeAmber it was a very difficult watch. What is wrong with men?! (Not all men obviously)

im not giving any spoilers saying that. The whole series is about toxic masculinity, right?

It is showing where the picture has been seen. So someone in the house has seen it. You find out who in the next episode.

Yes, it is so disturbing, I have been churning all day. Reminding myself it is fiction but then there have been homophobic murders. Not just like that though.

PrincessScarlett · 08/06/2026 23:03

So when we saw Clive coming to the rescue of the drag queen, was that him starting to see things through George's eyes and in his head he was protecting George rather than the drag queen? It has given me a little glimmer of hope that Clive can be a good man.

I would say it's about all masculinity.

Toxic masculinity, tribalism, the rise of right-wing sentiment and how social media stokes divides, reinforces untruths and creates spaces for people to share these views and access anything they want.

VivienneDelacroix · 09/06/2026 00:28

What I find really disturbing in Episode 4 was Clive's reaction to the suicides that Leo told him about. He said something like "good riddance".

People are sharing these views much more openly now, possibly than I've ever seen.

I saw a post on Facebook yesterday about a young black musician who had been stabbed at a party and so many of the comments were things like "good, one less of them," "black on black violence, let them get on with it". I feel like we're living in such a difference place to 20 years ago, there's so much hate. But not just that, there's no hiding the hate, people openly post these views. I can't imagine thinking the death of another human being is something to post laughing emojis about, or be happy about. It's sickening.

I'm not sure it was all about that. He looked up the drag act later and started to get aroused but then stopped himself. So, I think we can conclude that Clive certainly had gay feelings when he was young and has quashed them until now.

I find the whole simmering threat and reality of male violence throughout really unsettling.

Cantbesure · 08/06/2026 20:50

I thought it was great and shocking and provoking. And it’s a scary reflection of the way reform and its ilk is drumming up hatred and intolerance.

See where you are coming from with this. Clive was a very bitter person. He seemed very jealous of Leo, who on the surface had the better life, nicer house and own bar even though he admitted it was losing money). Because of Leo's sexuality, this caused Clive's homophobia to get worse. The scenes where he was trying to be one of the lads with his son's mates was embarrassing. This also happens politically when the chips are down, some will look for someone to blame. Look at the rise of Hitler.

I watched ahead to the finale and severely wish id turned it off or fast forwarded. Probably the most intense, horrific thing ive seen on Tv. Havent slept. Can't concentrate

So coz the girl shared a pic on sm others then shared it ?

or how else did it get so shown about ?

the more I watch the more I think Clive didn’t kill Leo but his actions caused it

OP posts:
PrincessScarlett · 09/06/2026 07:08

I don't think Clive killed Leo either. When he was shown saying "it's an execution" as he came out his house with his hands above his head in episode 3 I'm think he was referring to what he'd seen rather than being involved.

I wonder if all the social media reference about how things are put out there, for example George's photo going viral, is going to be how Leo's death comes about. Something is put on social media about Leo? Possibly by Saul or George in retaliation for their secrets being revealed.

I was worried last night that something was going to happen to Flo. Because she seems to like George. And that might be what starts it all but so far she seems to be ok.

What I find scary about this show and what I've witnessed in real life is that homophobia is alive and kicking in today's society, especially amongst the younger generation which is most surprising.

Rollercoaster1920 · 09/06/2026 08:13

I've been reflecting over night. I've realised I missed the significance of the wife's last line, it was a reference to the racist murder by police in the States "I can't breathe'.

The whole show is about masculinity in all its sexualities. Women are supporting acts. There aren't really any 'normal' characters either as a counterbalance to all the extreme ones, that's part of how it all feels so uncomfortable. Very little hope. The marriage is so, so depressing. There are no functioning relationships at all.

As a counter to this show I started watching the Gareth Southgate documentary on iPlayer. It's on a related theme (preparing boys for life) but more positive!

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 09/06/2026 08:47

I’m not sure if I can continue after just watching episode 1. Knowing what’s to come is awful. Plus I’m obviously a prude because I did find the masturbation scene at the end a bit too much. I mean I get what they were trying to show, but it just went on far too long imo

The photo was shared on Instagram (or similar). The spreading shows how quickly people will see an image and that the person in the image has no control (or sometimes even knowledge) of it.

Boolabus · 09/06/2026 09:08

I haven't watched the last episode yet, I am having a stressful week so based on some comments here I think I might have to wait until the weekend.

Episode 4 was very powerful and the sense of impending doom is getting stronger and stronger so a very stressful watch as you wait for it. What is really annoying me is that no one is challenging Clive, he seems free to be an absolute toxic p**ck and is let get away with such bad inappropriate behaviour, standing there judging everyone from his "pedestal". It is really jarring.
