Episodes 1 and 2 will air on Sunday, May 31 and Monday, June 1. The rest of the series continues next week on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays.

The story follows two next-door neighbors in Manchester over the course of an escalating neighborhood dispute:
• Leo (Alan Cumming): A gay man who runs a bar on the famous Canal Street in Manchester's Gay Village.
• Clive (David Morrissey): An electrician with two teenage sons who harbors underlying prejudices.

The situation spirals out of control when Leo locks himself out of his house and has to ask his neighbor for a spare key.

This single event triggers a collision of worlds, unearthing mistrust and bigotry, which is further complicated when Leo strikes up a friendship with one of Clive's sons—who happens to be secretly gay.

The five-part drama will follow Leo and Clive who live next door to each other in Manchester. Leo runs a bar on Canal Street, while Clive is an electrician, with two teenage sons. But just as life should be settling down, the world around them is growing more tense.

According to the official synopsis, "Words become weapons, opinions become radicalised, and gradually, two neighbours become deadly enemies in a tense, suburban thriller which challenges everything we consider to be safe."

•	Alan Cumming as Leo
•	David Morrissey as Clive
•	Pooky Quesnel as Marie, Clive’s wife
•	Jackson Connor as George, Clive’s son
•	Joseph Evans as Saul, Clive’s son
•	Elizabeth Berrington as Stephanie, Leo’s best friend
•	Iz Hesketh as Zee
•	Shakeel Kimotho as Hanna
•	Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Judy
•	Paul Rhys as Melba
•	Charlie Condou as Curtis, Leo’s ex-husband
•	Denise Welch as Diane

Episode three was carefully interwoven wasn’t it.
Very well done.

I thought it was @the80sweregreat

What do you mean had about the eldest working in the bar? You’ve got that all wrong. Besides if you work in a “gay bar” that doesn’t make you gay 🤣🤣🤣 🤦🏻‍♀️

True tho all of his staff seem to be or men as woman etc

Now loving this. So nuanced. Love that for an uncomfortable part Clive is right and it’s holding a mirror up to e.g. workplace banter and even appropriateness of drag in 2026. Etc

PrincessScarlett · 08/06/2026 11:53

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/06/2026 11:38

I thought the eldest son worked there as he was on the work chat wanking

and Leo told him to go

He was only on their work chat as one of them came across Saul on Only Fans or whatever it is and then shared in the work chat.

I didn’t buy Marie’s moment of bigotry - it was overly convenient and (again) clunky. Also the scene where she explained to Clive why it’s hard for them to split up, financially. I was 🙄 when she said she couldn't afford a one bedroom flat - surely RTD knows that flats have been tumbling in value for years.

Yes, I thought that was clunky. Part of the reason (apart from him not shagging someone else in a caravan) she and Clive have separated emotionally is because they're different types of people with different values. Or, if they're not, that aspect of her being similar to him hasn't been shown explicitly beforehand.

Still finding it fascinating. None of the characters are black and white.

the80sweregreat · 08/06/2026 12:10

Clive probably wants his wife to move on, but it also suits her to stay put I suppose. They are just at an impasse and one isn’t going to budge for years.

SwedishEdith · 07/06/2026 23:22

But that Buzzcocks song was perfectly apt. Presumably, that was Clive when he was young singing it with his band near the start. Brilliant choice with those lyrics.

Plus the lead singer of the Buzzcocks, Pete Shelley, was gay.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/06/2026 14:33

And yes words of song were perfect

thanks about work chat info

I do like his friend the social worker ( she is a good actress in everything though ) it was nice to see Denise Welsh and Melba is also very good.
It’s a strong cast and DM is playing the bitter older man very well.

Hellinnnnn · 08/06/2026 16:23

I thought it was excellent. I’ve watched to the end so no spoilers, but I think as they’re all flawed and all confused even when they think things ought to be straightforward it makes me think of Arthur Miller. I see the Clive character in people I went to school with whose lives should have worked out and who now, in their late 50s, are wondering what the hell went wrong and who to blame.
RTD things are always a bit preachy - but always quite heart in mouth. The final episode was quite horrific to watch but probably necessarily so

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/06/2026 17:50

Can I ask if we actually see the hanging being set up or more hinted and then see dangling

just so I can prepare my self

as I said I don’t like /avoid watching hanging scenes due to dh doing the same

if I know it’s coming it’s not so bad but I def didn’t expect that in e1

HighlightsInHerHair · 08/06/2026 17:53

I nearly posted about it this morning to warn people to be careful about watching it. I would say it is very disturbing and I would avoid watching it in your position. I was quite traumatised to be honest.

So I have a similar phobia of hanging. To the extent my husband has to narrate scenes in ostensibly non-troubling films/series in case there is a rogue noose.

I wouldn’t have watched this except I have a gay brother who asked that I overcome my fear in order to understand the full “plot development” , and, as I adore him, and I think Russell T Davies work is very important (have you seen “It’s a Sin”?!) I watched it. I regret watching the last 10 minutes. Even though you know it is coming it is unbelievably horrific and despite deliberately watching it in the middle of the day it is already haunting me.

Having said that, it is masterful drama, ultimately very sympathetically done (I felt empathy/pity for Clive at points throughout) and, much like The Handmaid’s Tale (equally harrowing to watch for me, to the point I have yet to watch the full series despite being a big fan of Margaret Atwood’s work).

Look after yourself, sending love xxx

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/06/2026 18:30

Yes THM was a lot of head avoiding

I know many can’t or don’t understand why I feel the way I do but it’s the most shocking horrific experience of my lifetime and even now 15yrs ago , it’s still like happened yesterday in my memory and I can’t erase what I saw /found 😢

yes seen it’s a sin and I do like RTD work and know he writes scenes close to the bone so to speak

I know it’s acting and each episode we are seeing more of the opening scene so was thinking very likely we would be shown more

thanks @HighlightsInHerHair and @CodeAmber

I completely understand DW. What I will say is despite my “fear” and avoidance of a lot of mainstream film/tv content, I do not regret watching the “This Woman’s Work” gallows scene in THT (S2ep1 I believe?) as I felt that was a seminal piece of television that spoke to me as a woman and ultimately moved me rather than disturbed me (though of course it did both).

with Tip Toe, I feel it is still an important piece of television (I am heavily influenced from having a LGBT+ member of the family here) I am also a massive fan of both Alan Cumming and David Morrissey’s work, which was why I “made” myself watch it. I’m still not sure that was the right idea.

do you have someone you can watch it with?

HighlightsInHerHair · 08/06/2026 18:58

You will know when it’s about to happen. Don’t watch that bit. There are some little bits of info etc that pop up afterwards- get someone to fast forward to that for you.

Edited

Yes, the end has some card/text bits on screen (not sure what the official name is!) which gives info on the future of the characters. Once those start I don’t think there’s any more shots of “the lamppost” just the individual characters’ faces…

I really wish there was a smart/AI filter to warn/block such scenes, as I have had many nightmares/reluctance to watch highly recommended series due to a phobia of seeing hanging bodies (not “hung” btw, it’s an important semantic difference)

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/06/2026 19:20

no only me. I will watch it. Maybe it’s kinda therapy. I know it’s coming so thanks

nothing can ever be worse then finding dh

I've watched to the end and thought the main storyline wasn't that clever and original. Certainly shocking, and thought provoking with a number of different angles. But characters were quite shallow, dialogue incredibly preachy.

I liked the small twists, the social worker's insights, the trans character's perspectives, images of Manchester too!

Whilst everything was amplified for drama the bloke 'banter' didn't seem overly done (apart from the obvious) and reminded me how much I hate that type of behaviour.

Not an uplifting watch, for sure. I think someone else compared it to the handmaid's tale. My emotions afterwards are very similar.

PercyPigFan73 · 08/06/2026 20:15

Gah. I've got 10 minutes left before I've finished. My daughter came down so I had to turn it off. Loved this series.

Where do I know the social worker from? She looks familiar?

Cantbesure · 08/06/2026 20:50

I thought it was great and shocking and provoking. And it’s a scary reflection of the way reform and its ilk is drumming up hatred and intolerance.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/06/2026 21:05

Which one is the social worker? Not sure I rem that or that is e 4 or 5

@Blondeshavemorefun

Steph is Leo's friend and is a Social Worker.

I found Ep 5 very traumatic, especially the last 20 minutes.
Definitely a very hard watch.
The scenes are extremely graphic and disturbing.
