Urgh...usual Ch 5 rubbish, but was prepared for that, clunky script, implausible storyline...why is Caroline being so monumentally gaslit by everyone, it seems, apart from in the last 5 minutes, the female french detective who did seem to finally take her seriously?
Why isn't she saying, " This is out of character, for my daughter...both her behaviour, and the middle of the night text, AND the lack of communication. I've travelled to France!"?
I wonder whether it's relying on lazy tropes of the French "laissez-faire" sterotype.
What has happened to safeguarding students on a school trip...?
I'm taking this far too seriously, aren't I?
My DH always says I can't suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy a programme!
But I find lazy plotlines and implausible scenarios so frustrating. I don't know, I should know better than to expect more from a Ch 5 drama.
Oh, and all the French accents, when speaking English, sound as if they've learnt English in America! Not authentic.
Katie's friend, ( Lucy?) can't act, I'm afraid.
Agree the close-ups of the female cleaner are significant.
Beautiful scenery though. I'm enjoying that.
My guess is that there is something going on with the bus driver boyfriend ( Rupert Graves) and the teacher, and that Katie has been drugged and groomed for money, as there was a brief scene with someone saying " that's a good price for the English girl , take it", or something like that.
I've always liked Joanna Scanlon, to my mind, she was never better than when she was in "Getting On", with Jo Brand, Vicky Pepardine and Peter Capaldi, @2010-2012 now, but was soooo good!
