I think this woman needs her to realise her star has fallen like a lot of minor celebs. She has had a good run and everything has did was tired. New cookery blood should be allowed a chance.

I thinks it's undignified to start accusing her erstwhile employers of racism.

Nadiya Hussain launches another blistering attack on the BBC

Nadiya Hussain has launched another blistering attack on the BBC after previously claiming she'd been axed due to racism in the 'broken' TV industry.

If I was being controversial I might ask why she made it and no-one else did, perhaps because she is a Muslim woman? It’s a baking show not a cooking show so much less skill. She’s not a chef and it’s a bit rich to compare herself to JO and the likes who are trained chefs and have worked in the industry for years. It’s a different level altogether. People are less likely to buy her stuff because of this, also people will buy/be interested in other cuisines such as Persian, Italian, French but why would I want an Islamic cook book based on Ramadan and Eid?! I think she pushes herself too much, she has to because her cooking is average.

Dancingsquirrels · 10/03/2026 08:59

I bought one of her books and the recipes were full of weird combinations. Nothing I was tempted to try cooking

Wellthisisdifficult · 10/03/2026 08:59

Coffeeishot · 10/03/2026 07:49

She dared to do a cook book about Ramadan and Eid,

It’s a very limited market though. from reading the article.
It seems her main issue is that the BBC wouldn’t serialise it. Of course they wouldn’t with such a small potential market. Eid and Ramadam is irrelevant to the vast vast majority of their audience - she would be better marketing the book somewhere where there is a much larger Muslim population

I wish they would get rid of Marcus Wareing. I get very bad vibes from him. I bet he is horrible at home.

I really liked Nadiya both on Bake Off and in those of her solo programmes I have seen.

Of course we have no idea if racism was involved but given the BBC is frequently criticised for discrimination against white british people, and most of all working class white people, it feels a bit unlikely.

However, I am sure Nadiya will have come across racist arseholes throughout her life and as with any distressing negative experience this can understandably create hypervigilance and lead to people suspecting the same thing is happening again even if there are other issues in play.

She also suffers from anxiety and as a fellow sufferer I can understand how she might feel the need to defend herself without fully thinking through the pros and cons of speaking out like this. Have done so myself and at times have regretted it.

Right or wrong what she is saying is not likely to help her career, if that was her aim.

If it is just about getting it off her chest as a moral issue then fine and I hope she feels better for it.

I worked with him back in the early noughties. One interaction wasn't a pleasant experience for me being a young female, just passing on a request from her line manager. Really unpleasant. But chefs got away with it back then, still he was one of the worst.

I don't think it's got anything to do with being left or right.

RanyaJerodung · 10/03/2026 09:01

@likelysuspect have you read "Imad's Syrian Kitchen"? I would recommend.
He's a refugee from Syria with a very interesting story. His book is excellent, with great recipes perhaps not mainstream.

halftermhalfawake · 10/03/2026 09:01

I would have loved to see her as the new presenter of bake off. I think that would have been a lovely full circle

Coffeeishot · 10/03/2026 09:01

TheCurious0range · 10/03/2026 08:53

They were both trained chefs working at a high level within the industry before they were on TV. They didn't just win a TV baking competition. It's fairer to compare Nadiya to other competition winners, tbh I can't even name any other bake off winners! Tomasina Meiers is always the MasterChef success I remember, but she didn't really do TV, she did found Wahaca

I was just replying to a poster maybe the original poster who said she should move over for "new cooks" i understand who i said isn't compariable in terms of qualifications and experience but are on television, maybe i should have compared her to the Hairy bikers/Si King or Jimmy Doherty who are also on television cooking but not "trained chefs"

likelysuspect · 10/03/2026 08:56

What scandals have there been for TV chefs?

Google Gino d’acampo, John Torode and Gregg Wallace just for starters.

likelysuspect · 10/03/2026 09:02

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 10/03/2026 08:30

Her actual comments were that she’d had a difficult conversation with producers where she asked that they focus on her recipes not her clothing and appearance, shortly after that she was dropped.

It’s fair enough for her to share that information, that’s her experience.

The daily mail has then gone off on a tangent to slur her and OP and others are buying into it wholeheartedly, which is just sad.

Thats absolutely valid but lets not pretend that TV people wont direct according to aesthetic (or what they think it is anyway, not sure it makes a massive difference to the average jo on the street), for everyone thinking that this only applies to her or women, or people of colour, they'll be badgering Jamie or James Martin or whoever to stand this way, look this way, put your hair like this, wear this, dont wear that, use that pan, use this dish.

There are next to no new chefs coming through on TV in the traditional format. Guest spots on other shows maybe, but very few cooking shows with one host.

Maybe stop reading the daily mail?

thinktoomuchtoooften · 10/03/2026 09:04

She doesn’t have the expertise to judge bake off and no experience of unscripted tv presenting to front it.

What the fuck is Islamic cuisine?

Probably the book she released last year called “Rooza: a journey through Islamic cuisine inspired by Ramadhan and Eid” 🙄

Well exactly- the idea of the BBC being anti Muslim is laughable to put it lightly, the bubble has simply burst for this star of what is essentially reality TV.

Dollymylove · 10/03/2026 09:06

The popularity od these people rises and falls, especially reality show types. She's done well out of it and whining about racism isnt helping her cause one bit.
She's had her moment and she should pipe down now

RainbowBagels · 10/03/2026 09:06

Coffeeishot · 10/03/2026 07:28

Oh I dunno i think she is probably right, a woman of colour and a Muslim not conforming to Bbc "beauty: standard is racist and sexist.

Edited

Did they just realise she was a Muslim 10 years into employing her? She's had a good run. Far longer than any other Bake off winner. Her cooking isn't that great. Its a lot of 'chuck some stuff together'. If people arent watching her shows, she gets cancelled. Just like many, many other TV cooks.

Monolithique · 10/03/2026 09:07

Agree its not doing her favours to moan. So many tv chefs and cooks move from tv - Nigel Slater, Sophie Grigson, Gary Rhodes was no longer on tv when he died. They move on to other things if they want to monetise their abilities. Saint Delia moved from telly to YouTube.

Mary Berry had her days in the wilderness running aga workshops before Bake Off.

Reportingfromwherever · 10/03/2026 09:08

Coffeeishot · 10/03/2026 07:47

Nobody is telling Jamie oliver to move along and make way or marcus Waring Tom Ketteridge, for new blood, anyway i have nothing else to say about it , your thread says all i need to know about you op.

I think that’s an unfair comparison as they are extremely well-respected chefs - Nadiya is a very good home cook (remember her cake for the Queen?). They aren’t the same.

Personally, I’ve always liked Nadiya herself as she has a nice manner. However, I don’t think her food is that good and she often has odd combos and too many ingredients. I’m not a fan of her cooking.

I’m Muslim so there’s no agenda here.

BeanQuisine · 10/03/2026 09:09

Like a few others thrust into the limelight for a little too long, she became accustomed to everything being about "me, me, me".

Now when it's suddenly not all about "me, me, me", it's "not fair, not fair, not fair".

BootMaker · 10/03/2026 08:52

You know North America is a continent that includes Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica etc etc....

And even if you were just referring to the USA, it has a rich and varied culinary history with many distinct regional cuisines. It's not all bloody junk food.

Canada does not have a distinct cuisine of its own bar a few particular dishes

I didnt consider Cuba, Mexico and Jamaica to be 'North America' albeit geographically they are, so I wasnt talking about them

Yes there are some distinct cuisines in America but largely born out of other cultures such as Mexico/Spain/France etc

PinkMagpie · 10/03/2026 09:11

When she wasn’t renewed at the BBC she said that she had had offers from ITV and Channel 4. I wonder why she didn’t take up one of those offers?

I would say that 10 years is a long time for any BBC show to run and she needs to develop more resilience if she wants to make a lifetime career in broadcasting. There will be ups and downs
