I think this woman needs her to realise her star has fallen like a lot of minor celebs. She has had a good run and everything has did was tired. New cookery blood should be allowed a chance.

I thinks it's undignified to start accusing her erstwhile employers of racism.

Nadiya Hussain launches another blistering attack on the BBC

Nadiya Hussain has launched another blistering attack on the BBC after previously claiming she'd been axed due to racism in the 'broken' TV industry.

Ah right i see who where this is going, fwiw Nadyias last show for the Bbc was a travel food show so what are you on about "islamic cuisine".

Why are you being so rude.

AnAppleAWeek · 10/03/2026 09:13

You need to put down the Daily Mail (and MN), start believing women, and educate yourself.

MrsKateColumbo · 10/03/2026 09:13

I think a 10 year TV career off the back of a reality show is great. But she's come to a natural end. LOADS of celebs who were huge 10 years ago are now irrelevant.

Entertainment has changed so much in the last 10 years and you have to adapt if you want to remain relevant.

Anyway she could still pitch to other production companies

Fizbosshoes · 10/03/2026 09:15

I actually think part of it is almost engineered to make it seem like she's constantly criticising. She commented on her own Instagram....then gets asked (specific questions) about her experience...the interview from Radio Times then gets regurgitated by the DM etc etc ....and then the rhetoric is she's constantly seeking to complain....
(So instead of one comment on her Instagram...there are lots of further comments, repeated in various places, which then paints her as entitled, always whinging etc)

I think I might write a book of Christian Cooking…..it’ll be pretty much the same as Muslim Cooking but won’t scare the flag shaggers.

Trusttheawesomeness · 10/03/2026 08:13

I’m very confused by this post @canisquaeso. Nadiya used the terms Islamic cuisine and Muslims cuisine in her book title and description, so why are you acting as though posters are being racist by saying her book is about Islamic cuisines. THAT IS WHAT NADIYA CALLED IT.

Edited

Yes! That’s right. I never watched Bake off or her subsequent programmes, it’s not my thing. I just remember that cake she made for the Queen 😳

JasmineMac · 10/03/2026 09:17

halftermhalfawake · 10/03/2026 09:01

I would have loved to see her as the new presenter of bake off. I think that would have been a lovely full circle

She doesn't even watch bake off, she's been scathing about that too, says even the theme tune gives her the ick.

It's utterly bizarre to suggest she'd be the ideal presenter.

Foreverautumnagain · 10/03/2026 09:17

"A Muslim cook book will have less appeal to a general audience as about 10% of the population are Muslim" It’s actually 6% of the UK population (4 million Muslims) but maybe it's on sale worldwide? Around 25% of the world population is Muslim.

NewGoldFox · 10/03/2026 09:17

I think the two things are true, she has experienced racism and sexism and people don’t want to watch her tv programs.

AnnaMagnani · 10/03/2026 09:17

likelysuspect · 10/03/2026 08:49

Perhaps not, but her name would get that book selling. I would be interested in that book, I buy huge numbers of cook books of cultural cuisines, particularly ME but not restricted to that, Im interested in food full stop

Last night I was watching, might have been masterchef cant remember, and learned about Haleem, another new dish I want to try, never heard of it, people like me would be interested in different things (to me) and learning about it and the techniques. But I dont think there are many Western people who would, hence her target market is going to be a bit smaller.

We have a terrible food culture in this country which doesnt lend itself to exploration and curiosity. A PP made light or made fun of her putting different flavours together, which is literally how dishes come to be invented and created. Its what a good chef/cook does.

I am not convinced her name would get her Ramadan book selling.

In the posh hardback cookbook market it's likely her name would put people off. As a non-Muslim, if I am buying a book about a new cuisine/culture I want it written by an expert. My memories of her putting wotsits and baked beans into random recipes means she is an instant no.

Looking on Amazon at the top selling Ramadan book, it's very similar but the writing is better, the chapter structure is better and the recipes are better. Even though I've never heard of the author, it's the one I'm more likely to buy.

I wouldn’t be interested in a book on Islamic cuisine because it seems very broad. Like a book on Asian cuisine

however, I got the impression her book was more about Ramadan and Eid - so not dissimilar to a book on Easter or Christmas cooking? I don’t buy cookbooks but would have a flick through it if I saw it on the shelf

i wonder why she hasn’t gone down the social media route - that seems to be where most young people get their cooking content these days. I also wonder why she moved away from baking

she seems quite lost at the moment - I understand she’s not well and the TA job didn’t work out. It would be good if she had a friendly ear who was able to give her some professional advice

Your post's horrible. Why was she "ticking a box?"
Like if you're Muslim, female and not the usual white male chef of which there's hundreds of, it must be a "box ticking exercise?!" 🙄 Never mind how good you actually are, to some like yourself it's always a "box tick." Biscuit
You're kind of making her bloody point there!
I like Nadiya. I've watched some of her cookery shows and she comes across well, and approachable. Relatable.

Well people who like Indian food will buy an Indian cookbook even if they're not Indian..

Imo her issue is that religion is different from nationality. People tend to be more interested in different nations' foods, not different religions.

Nobody is telling Jamie oliver to move along and make way or marcus Waring Tom Ketteridge, for new blood, anyway i have nothing else to say about it , your thread says all i need to know about you op.

In fairness, these examples are not comparable. Marcus waring and Tom Kerridge are Michelin starred chefs. Jamie Oliver is a home cook who’s managed to build himself into a pretty major brand over the years through reinvention, his latest series is called ‘feasts for a fiver’ - I can imagine that being very popular and topical given CoL. It all comes down to viewing figures. I quite like watching Nadia, but I’m not keen on her recipes. The ones I’ve seen seem overly faffy to me.

DataColour · 10/03/2026 09:21

I'm a keen cook and also of south asian descent and her recipes don't appeal to me. Like pp said, lots of weird combinations that don't sound like they would work. My go to asian inspired recipes are by Meera Sodha and Rukmini Iyer mostly. I think her appeal is limited, and she's had a good run so far.

Re her hijab, has she 'suddenly' begun wearing it? I thought she always did.

I personally think religious covering rules that only apply to women are sexist and unfair. But otoh I don't think saying women wearing hijabs are endorsing oppression & force is that helpful.

It was random but brilliant in its own way. I think there should be more random GIFs on MN tbh

Why do we want to beat down other women who are just trying to do something completely harmless like a cookery show that is actually about cooking?

Honestly, we've just had international women's day and this is where we are at?

What Nadiya said does ring true, especially looking at the title of this thread.

'Unfortunately, as a woman – and a woman of colour – if you speak up, often it's considered "being difficult" or "being a nuisance", whereas I know, from experience, that if I was a man, they'd be like: "Oh, you know what he's like"'.

Exactly - according to this thread she "should be more graceful." 🙄
Wonder when the likes of Jamie Oliver or say Rick Stein got told to be that 😁
