What tv shows would you cancel?

There are so many long running boring tv shows that dominate the schedules and the budgets of the channels. What would you get rid of? Yes I’m bored.

The one show - first against the wall
Pointless
house of games - Richard osman is leaving and they’ve surely had every “celebrity” twice
Strictly - give us a two year break, minimum
Bake off - again, we need a bit of a break, though I will watch it
Britain’s got talent - please no more
master chef - it’s just so dull watching the same challenges again and again. Either totally revamp the format or give up
The Apprentice - enough.
Celebrity antiques road trip
Flog it
great British menu

it is all just so repetitive and boring. I know no one under thirty watches tv, but you can see why?!

Special mention to the new quiz show on bbc1 with Vernon Kaye, think its called Where the fuck am I? Utter filler drivel made only to make Vern a bit richer.

Oh wtaf is that about, i watched it twice and couldn't make head nor tail of it! I saw on Fb that it was at a town near me and it is an absolute shithole !

I would like to add Sara Davies (sorry Sara) awful itv quiz it is dire. please don't make anymore .

Or that one with Amanda Holden, Seventh Circle of Hell or something. It's like the bastard child of 15 to one and Traitors.

The game is overcomplicated and the "share or shaft" thing in the final is just downright nasty.

TheFilliesWillRiseAgain · 04/03/2026 17:56

Almost everything on BBC One now!

I'd start with Have I Got News For You - it sadly isn't funny anymore

Same joke structure reworked every episode. Fake (feck) swearing to make it edgy and leaving in bloopers to boost the laughs.

If it wasn't for the rampant nepotism lining each others pockets, it'd probably have tanked years ago.

I admire the hustle though 😂

Edited

There can be one of three reasons why this disgrace is continued to be shown

  • one of the cast has some serious dirt on a senior BBC executive
  • its a practical joke to see what rubbish people will watch
  • its very cheap to make.

Leave Pointless alone!

Why not have half an hour or so of children's programmes instead? Let everyone know what tv children may be watching, even if more and more they are on tablets or non-mainstream free to view tv.

Mrs Brown probably has an unredacted copy of the Epstein files.

I'd cancel anything with Lorraine Kelly or Eamonn Holmes. I'm getting close to cancelling everything with Richard Osman and Steven mulhearn as well. And piers Morgan. And Richard maddeley. And Stacey Solomon.

lol.
The Brown files..

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 07/03/2026 07:36

I wouldn't normally cancel anything because everybody likes different things, but why on earth does Mrs Brown's Boys keep getting new series? I just don't get it! I reckon the person behind it must know something very bad about the people high up in the BBC for it to keep getting made!

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 07/03/2026 07:39

I don't want to cancel it, but I wish First Dates would stop featuring people with a 'tragic' sob story! I love the show, but I don't need the drama or the contrived drama -somebody was cheated on and it's affected their whole life making them unable to trust anybody ever again - well, until they come on First Dates and then everything is all good! Annoying and not necessary!

Another vote for
Mrs Browns Boys...its dreadful.
Love Island
Any of the Naked Reality shows
Love at first sight
Bradley Walsh and son

Oh I agree with Masterchef and Great British Menu actually. I don't know anyone who watches those anymore.

For selfish (and dastardly) reasons, I'd love to see the back of I'm a Celebrity, Traitors, Love Isand and anything with Ant and Dec <runs away>

It’s me, I’m the person still watching MC & GBM I enjoy watching them. I say get shot of the one show, the chase, bake off, the apprentice and death in paradise, I’ve never seen love island or shows like it but judging by the office banter they seem to be losing their appeal.

RampantIvy · 07/03/2026 07:56

Anything with "celebrity" in it.
Big Brother
Love Island
Gogglebox
The Apprentice

Basically all reality TV.

I don't claim to only watch "worthy" or highbrow TV - I love a cheesy Ch5 mini drama series, but any TV show with an inane vacuous "celebrity" can go into room 101.

All the cookery shows can stay (not the celebrity ones though).

AuntyAngela · 07/03/2026 08:07

Honestly, we can keep the quiz shows — even the fairly brain-numbing ones where half the excitement seems to be someone dropping a token into a machine. They may not be intellectually stimulating, but at least nobody’s dignity is on the line.

What I’d happily scrap are programmes built around a “point and laugh” formula. The ones that turn ordinary people into temporary celebrities so the public can first obsess over them and then inevitably tear them apart.

Then there are the shows whose entire premise is judging people’s bodies and appearances, like Love Island. They dress it up as light entertainment, but the underlying formula is depressingly simple: objectify the contestants, manufacture drama, and let the audience pass judgement.

I realise I sound like a snob, and I admit to actually watching some of these shows (well i watch things like the Traitors and The Apprentice) and I feel in reality we'd also need to bin the internet to achieve what Id like to cancel. We seem so oddly comfortable with building entertainment around humiliation, superficiality, and the disposable nature of fame.

RattleAndHump · 07/03/2026 08:30

I love Masterchef: the Professionals, Death in Paradise, Only Connect, Mastermind, and Have I Got News For You.

The only programmes I really object to are ones where ordinary people are belittled, ridiculed, or manipulated.
