What tv shows would you cancel?

There are so many long running boring tv shows that dominate the schedules and the budgets of the channels. What would you get rid of? Yes I’m bored.

The one show - first against the wall
Pointless
house of games - Richard osman is leaving and they’ve surely had every “celebrity” twice
Strictly - give us a two year break, minimum
Bake off - again, we need a bit of a break, though I will watch it
Britain’s got talent - please no more
master chef - it’s just so dull watching the same challenges again and again. Either totally revamp the format or give up
The Apprentice - enough.
Celebrity antiques road trip
Flog it
great British menu

it is all just so repetitive and boring. I know no one under thirty watches tv, but you can see why?!

Mrs Brown's Boys. How this got to be shown in the first place is a complete mystery!

This. Absolute drivel

MrsMoastyToasty · 03/03/2026 16:49

Anything that involves a celebrity buying a house/foreign home/farm/pub and tarting it up. That last series with Alan Carr and Amanda Holden and their Greek holiday home was the worst.

Coffeeishot · 03/03/2026 16:50

I stopped watching eastenders after the live episode, tried dipping in and out but it is total garbage

Good job there are millions of channels and streaming services so we don’t have to watch things we don’t like 🤷‍♀️😆

Well Said!

I like The Last Kingdom, Vikings, Vikings Valhalla, and Call The Midwife, I also like historical documentaries, and some other historical dramas.

I don’t watch things I have no interest in.

Sid9nie · 03/03/2026 16:54

Married rt first sight and all similar "reality" shows. I think they're exploitative.

FurForksSake · 03/03/2026 16:54

I don’t watch things I have no interest in, but I’d like to have more choice on the main channels of things I would like to watch.

And, the subject and board are quite clear what this thread is about, so perhaps if you are happy and wouldn’t cancel and have nothing to add, then maybe this isn’t the thread for you? Particularly if the idea that people want a chat about cancelling stuff annoys you enough.

Call the midwife. It would be a lot more interesting without the babies.

boundarysponge · 03/03/2026 16:59

I like Pointless but the following definitely need to be binned. Let’s have some fresh ideas please …
Death in Paradise
Strictly
Bake Off
Silent Witness
All the tedious iterations of Masterchef
Agree on anything with Michael McIntyre, Romesh Ranganathan, Claudia Winkelman
(nothing against them just have some fresh presenters and stop showing us the same faces all the time)
One Show
Fewer celebrity versions of things

what I would like to see is
Decent documentaries not more Lucy Worsley vehicles
New ideas …anything with a bit of a fresh view
Small Prophets has been brilliant but so few new ideas seem to get commissioned.

I would rather pick up a book than watch TV these days but sometimes you want to collapse in front of something entertaining.
Netflix isn’t much better due to the obsession with true crime, it’s so ghoulish!
Perhaps if enough of us are saying similar things someone might see it?

Mochudubh · 03/03/2026 16:59

@taxguru "long lingering images of cars travelling on country roads",
God yes! Any detective drama has to start with long drone shots of a car travelling through a forest. I blame the Scandinavians.

Pointless - I actually quite like it but you only seem to get about 10 new episodes then it's all repeats. Last week the contestants kept referencing lockdown and "not being able to travel for the last couple of years". I really don't need to hear Darren from Slough's unfunny story once, never mind every few months. If they've run out of fresh episodes they should show something else.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 03/03/2026 17:02

Anything with Michael McIntyre or ant and dec. but I like BGT so that can stay.

CoffeeAndCakeBringMeJoy · 03/03/2026 17:02

Each to their own, but I will do anything to avoid Bargain Hunt, Flog It, Mrs. Brown’s Boys, Love Island or I’m A Celebrity.

Also an advert rather than a show, but the On The Beach advert has ruined “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” for me.

That’s what I was going to say. I mean who do they do favours for, why do they keep getting jobs. Unfathomable.

I think that as the pair of them were children when they first went into tv they have dirt on some of the tv bosses. It surely can be the only reason that two blokes without an ounce of talent between them have such long tv careers.

ScullyD · 03/03/2026 17:05

Bridgerton im sorry to say it’s pure fluffy rubbish and I laughed my way through this season. Everyone new season is a regurgitation of the last. I fear Lady Whistledown’s identity reveal has been the death knell also.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/03/2026 17:21

Eastenders and Corrie have had their day

MonsteraDeliciosa · 03/03/2026 17:22

Well yes, but at least the Scandinavians are likely to produce a gripping, intelligent, visually pleasing drama after all their forest travel; the British dramas tend to be toe-curling, idiot-level crap.

PinotPinot · 03/03/2026 17:23

Oh I agree with Masterchef and Great British Menu actually. I don't know anyone who watches those anymore.

For selfish (and dastardly) reasons, I'd love to see the back of I'm a Celebrity, Traitors, Love Isand and anything with Ant and Dec <runs away>

worrisomeasset · 03/03/2026 17:25

I used to love the Bake Off but stopped watching it a few years ago. There's only so many times you can watch a bunch of nice people making cakes. I'd also get rid of all the Bake Off copies - the pottery one, the sewing one, the make up one etc.

Hopefulsalmon · 03/03/2026 17:37

Any shouty, loud Saturday night shows such as Michael Macintyre. Also, I don't want it cancelled but I'm not happy about the introduction of the sofa on Politics Live...bring back the desk!

Astra53 · 03/03/2026 17:44

This advert has ruined holidays for me full stop!

justthecat · 03/03/2026 17:49

Lorraine and loose women

wishingonastar101 · 03/03/2026 17:58

I could bin 90% of TV. All shite.

pippapipps · 03/03/2026 18:00

Britains got talent it should of gone when xfactor did

pippapipps · 03/03/2026 18:01

Oh and love island and anything with the housewives of shite

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 03/03/2026 18:19

All the slebs going on a lovely jolly ones (apart from Michael Portillo-he seems to revel in showing viewers the countries he goes to, but i think even he has had his day)Looking for homes under the hammer in the sun celebrity version.
