There are so many long running boring tv shows that dominate the schedules and the budgets of the channels. What would you get rid of? Yes I’m bored.

The one show - first against the wall
Pointless
house of games - Richard osman is leaving and they’ve surely had every “celebrity” twice
Strictly - give us a two year break, minimum
Bake off - again, we need a bit of a break, though I will watch it
Britain’s got talent - please no more
master chef - it’s just so dull watching the same challenges again and again. Either totally revamp the format or give up
The Apprentice - enough.
Celebrity antiques road trip
Flog it
great British menu

it is all just so repetitive and boring. I know no one under thirty watches tv, but you can see why?!

Mrs Brown’s Boys
Catchphrase
The Chase
Lorraine
Bargain Hunt
Flog It
Antiques Roadshow
Dickinson’s Real Deal
Pointless
I’m a Celebrity
BGT
Limitless Win
Who wants to be a millionaire
Beat the Chasers
Death in Paradise

The Masked Singer. The judges saying things like “is it Celine Dion?” “Is it Mariah Carey” drives me absolutely bonkers. As if they’d be on the show!

daysofpearlyspencer · 03/03/2026 18:59

Traitors, it's just a dressed up version of Deal or no Deal.
Casualty
The One Show and Country File are like Blue Peter for grown ups

Wait….Richard’s leaving???? Tell me it’s not true!!!

FurForksSake · 03/03/2026 19:09

@CurlewKate Yep, he’s done 800 episodes and he’s off. The show is continuing but they haven’t announced the replacement. A z level comedian I expect. Richard Osman quits quiz show House of Games after 'amazing nine years' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvg1j3zyl3do

Where have the good investigative journalism programmes gone.
Loved Man Alive whilst growing up in the 70s.
Ant and Dec
Lorraine Kelly and her annoying daughter.
All reality TV
Mrs Browns boys
And most days time TV.

AlwaysRightISwear · 03/03/2026 19:16

Can I cancel football?

FurForksSake · 03/03/2026 19:20

@AlwaysRightISwear all sports should be on free / included dedicated sports channels and leave main channels the heck alone.

I would ban all those Netflix standalone thriller dramas that go on for 8 to 10 hour-long episodes and which could have been done in just 3 or 4 episodes. So much tedious filler! “The Beast in Me” is a recent example - hideously over-stretched with its 8 episodes.

Sunset6 · 03/03/2026 19:35

High time Strictly got the boot. The celebrities are Z list and it’s all so predictable. I’d rather see members of the public dance

thinkofsomethingdifferent · 03/03/2026 16:48

Tipping Point. The constant “fire it up” has me nearly tipping over the edge.

And any celebrity travel programmes, like that with Bradley Walsh and his son. Why can’t they look for “normal” families who would never ordinarily get the chance to roadtrip/visit places? Where’s the sense of normality?

Good use of pun there in your first comment. Made me laugh.

Fire up drop zone one, please.

Its so cringe as well when women win and they run towards them and he picks them and lifts them up as if he is their husband.

GrillaMilla · 03/03/2026 19:41

I see The Masked Singer has already been mentioned. The most boring, long-winded and pointless show ever. Absolute bilge.

GrillaMilla · 03/03/2026 19:42

I do love Tipping Point though! sorry

BrownSharpie · 03/03/2026 19:42

All the soaps and all those stupid reality shows like Love Island and Big Brother.

GrillaMilla · 03/03/2026 19:43

The jackpot counter's going nowhere!

But but but… it’s our bed time story show! “Let’s watch an Osman then go to bed”! This is a disaster……

FurForksSake · 03/03/2026 19:51

@CurlewKate you can start from the beginning, 800 will take 2.5 years, then you can start again. I’ve forgotten most things in 2.5 years 🤣

It's not just cancelling some shows altogether, and in the case of anyone responsible for Mrs Brown's Boys, making sure they never work in television ever again.

Some shows should be on less often, or be shorter. Soap operas have a place, once or twice a week each. University Challenge should be a straight knock out competition. Strictly have a different set of contestants each week, a weekly winner and then a final of each weekly winners. To suggest examples.

Mymanyellow · 04/03/2026 05:17

Somebody, lots of somebodies must be watching these shows otherwise they would take them off.
I miss a good drama you can get your teeth into.

OvernightBloats · 04/03/2026 06:16

boundarysponge · 03/03/2026 16:59

I like Pointless but the following definitely need to be binned. Let’s have some fresh ideas please …
Death in Paradise
Strictly
Bake Off
Silent Witness
All the tedious iterations of Masterchef
Agree on anything with Michael McIntyre, Romesh Ranganathan, Claudia Winkelman
(nothing against them just have some fresh presenters and stop showing us the same faces all the time)
One Show
Fewer celebrity versions of things

what I would like to see is
Decent documentaries not more Lucy Worsley vehicles
New ideas …anything with a bit of a fresh view
Small Prophets has been brilliant but so few new ideas seem to get commissioned.

I would rather pick up a book than watch TV these days but sometimes you want to collapse in front of something entertaining.
Netflix isn’t much better due to the obsession with true crime, it’s so ghoulish!
Perhaps if enough of us are saying similar things someone might see it?

Agree with all of this except I enjoy Bake Off.

They definitely need to use new people for some of these things - why is Lucy Worsley on so much stuff?! Give other people a chance.

Also Michael McIntyre and Romesh Ranganathan make me change channels as soon as I see their faces!

RedRiverShore6 · 04/03/2026 06:42

All those true life dramas, often on Netflix and also sometimes on linear TV

FurForksSake · 04/03/2026 08:19

Alice Roberts is leaving digging for Britain so I’m hoping she’ll have more time to do other shows. I think she’s brilliant and I love her fighting decrepitude on instagram.

We loved the living history programmes, Victorian / Edwardian / war time farm and the back in time for dinner. Those felt like a great blend of entertainment and interesting.

I also loved Normal People and Fleabag and I don’t think much has got to the same level in a longtime.

Small Prophets was bloody wonderful though, Mackenzie Crook did a brilliant job. But then he did on detectorists too.

We do like Here We Go and the Dawn French thing recently was watchable.

A few really good, brilliantly written and clever dramas and less of the long running boring formats would be nice.

Most reality shows. Especially MAFS. I'm Australian and it's alllll that's advertised on tv. It's disgusting. Add most reality shows as the formats are tired & repetitive.

We also have a show called travel guides that's a bunch of bogans travelling and embarrassing themselves. Just why? It's hugely popular so won't get cancelled, unfortunately.

quintessentially166 · 04/03/2026 08:25

Pretty much agree with most of what has been said but at least we can turn off or over ☺️

what I hate is the regurgitating of the same old actors all the time; there must be thousands of up and coming actors out there….give them a chance!

FurForksSake · 04/03/2026 08:28

Jill Halfpenny must get confused as to which Mardy looking woman she’s playing this week on channel 5.
