One reviewer in an Irish paper said that parts of it were like a David Attenborough documentary, with close ups of flora and fauna 😀
He wasn’t a fan. Sorry i can’t do links.

I read that article too.

Personally, I liked that pacing with moments of action interspersed with the shots of birds or insects, children looking at the camera, little 'uns playing. I thought it was very atmospheric.

Lord of the Flies on BBC One review: Far too pretty to reflect the ugly side of humanity

You tune in expecting scorched earth insights into the fundamental ugliness of humanity – but instead it’s a glorified David Attenborough documentary

Just watched the first episode on catch up and thought it was really well done.
I loved the Britten and Vaughan Williams music, none of which is credited at the end. Only Hans Zimmer, but hardly any of the music is originally written by him for it....things like this really annoy me!
I will be watching next sun.

I will put this here and leave you .
I watched all four and I am gob smacked .
It is my favourite book and I have longed for a remake to do this book credit and they have succeeded .
Stay with it you will not regret it .
It will take a while for me to re visit this series but I certainly will do.
No Spoilers .
Adieu

Ooh can’t wait to watch this. Read this as one of my English Lit O level books in 1982, along with 1984, Catch 22, The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner and the War poets

Thanks @70isaLimitNotaTarget I really enjoyed the first episode. It's good to hear that you loved the whole series. I'm going to try and just watch at TV pace rather than binge on it.

Nosejobnelly · 11/02/2026 20:42

I vaguely remembered it from school and loved the first episode. Watched w adult DD who read most of LOTF as a teen.

I'd hesitate to show it to a child under 13. It's being broadcast after the watershed for a reason, even though every single actor is 13 or under (so far).

Jack actor is 14

We had to sign a permission form for our DS to read/study it at school. He would have been younger than 13 at the time. Apparently his class was deemed to be 'emotionally and academically mature' for their age. Didn't seem to do him any harm.

I know a family involved in the filming and they had a blast out in Malaysia! They were out there for 6 months and their son loved the whole filming experience. The parents were very happy with the way the boys were treated/looked after.

bilbodog · 12/02/2026 22:57

Just finished this and thought it was excellent! Loved the scenery and the way it was filmed. I never did read the book - might do now. The acting of the youngsters was extremely good.

I’ve watched the first two episodes. First read the book when I was 12 and then was lucky enough to study it for GCSE (didn’t we all?!) with a superb English teacher, although I haven’t read it since.

I’m really enjoying the adaptation and think the acting is excellent.

purpleme12 · 13/02/2026 11:12

I didn't study it for gcse

cariadlet · 15/02/2026 06:54

Thanks so much for that, what a fantastic experience for them! Glad to see from those pictures that it looks as if many parents and siblings were there too.
