The four-part spy drama from Mammoth Screen production is set against the backdrop of the MI5 and explores human relationship as its characters battle between loyalty and deception.

Episode 1 will air at 9pm on Sunday 8th February 2026 on ITV1 and ITVX, with the second episode to air in the same slot the following day.

The four-part series follows Evans' character John Hughes, an MI5 officer with a crumbling marriage who is tipped off about an informant who could help him take down a criminal gang in Stockport.

John Hughes a mid-career MI5 officer desperately grappling to maintain a work-life balance in a rapidly evolving intelligence landscape and a marriage that is about to implode.

The series kicks off with John meeting a British Iranian man who claims he has intelligence about a known gang in Stockport, but before he can share the information with the MI5 agent, he is executed by an assassin whom John then kills in self defence.

John is then wrongfully placed under internal investigation, facing scrutiny from his superiors, leading John to question whether the threat might be closer to home than he released.

Is he just paranoid, or is he really onto something? Well, the show is called Betrayal...

The General - very original

the80sweregreat · 09/02/2026 21:42

Mehreen looks like Chrissie Hyne ( pretenders singer : guitarist and cool fringe)

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/02/2026 21:51

Guess she forgive him then

The General needs to fire that lot

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/02/2026 21:59

So she’s dodgy ?

confused

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 09/02/2026 21:59

And her behaviour isn’t suspicious at all

mylovedoesitgood · 09/02/2026 21:59

Hayley Tamaddon is doing a terrible accent…sounds like nothing else I’ve heard.

The series feels like two shows in one - what’s going on with John’s work and what’s going on with his family, all very jarring.

JaneJeffer · 09/02/2026 22:01

It’s not great is it but easy to watch because you don’t need to concentrate too hard!

JaneJeffer · 09/02/2026 22:01

When is the next episode?

the80sweregreat · 09/02/2026 22:03

I think I prefer the family angst story instead of the spy stuff ! She’s seen the Pea text now .. she’ll run off into martins arms , but he is dodgy too ! No luck with men.
Feel sorry for their kids with the goth nanny

JaneJeffer · 09/02/2026 22:04

The nanny is probably the most stable person in the whole thing!

the80sweregreat · 09/02/2026 22:05

It’s on next week I think , but may be on the catch up.
I like the lead actor ( who is gorgeous) so I’ll stick with it , even if it’ll be full of double crossing and more family angst

When is the next episode?

Sunday (broadcast day), but you can watch it and the last episode on the ITV hub.

Im running behind on plus one. Just heard how Clare was left looking after MIL and the kids while he fucked off to work so shes not surprisingly upset about the possibility of facing a repeat. Has the writer of this been reading Mumsnet threads?

MissKittyCat · 09/02/2026 22:55

I know the location of the MI5 HQ isn't a secret but I was surprised they showed them walking down the front steps of the actual building! I

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/02/2026 22:57

E3 an 4 - the last two are next Sunday and Monday

FullLondonEye · 09/02/2026 23:01

Yeah, I think that scene about getting stuck running around after the MIL resonated strongly for an awful lot of women!

Also the scene in the therapy session where she rates their marriage a 2 and he's surprised - despite the fact she's been telling him this repeatedly! I bet a lot of women felt that one hard.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/02/2026 10:05

So does this mean Greg isn’t dodgy tho def seems suss

but the leak/grass is the woman

I didn’t understand how he managed to track /record their chat

he brought a £212 tracker but how did he attach it to them ?

poor informant. Def dead 😢😢

It has turned into a mini soap with his affair being brought up and obviously a lot of problems with their marriage even before this happened. She will probably start seeing Martin , not aware of anything he is accused of of course.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/02/2026 10:46

I hope she doesn’t have an affair

but he should have told her he saw the ex/affair lady due to work issues

Gregory is too obvious. I mean they might as well hang a sign around his neck, they're literally pointing us in his direction, which I'm assuming is a red herring so we don't look elsewhere.

Didn't he drop something in the guys pocket as he walked through the pub? Or at least that's what I thought.

mylovedoesitgood · 10/02/2026 11:25

I've watched the third episode and it doesn't improve but I may as well watch the last one. What a waste of some excellent actors.

Yeah, if this was The Good Ship Murder then maybe Gregory would be the baddie - but hopefully a bit more complex here!
