The four-part spy drama from Mammoth Screen production is set against the backdrop of the MI5 and explores human relationship as its characters battle between loyalty and deception.

Episode 1 will air at 9pm on Sunday 8th February 2026 on ITV1 and ITVX, with the second episode to air in the same slot the following day.

The four-part series follows Evans' character John Hughes, an MI5 officer with a crumbling marriage who is tipped off about an informant who could help him take down a criminal gang in Stockport.

John Hughes a mid-career MI5 officer desperately grappling to maintain a work-life balance in a rapidly evolving intelligence landscape and a marriage that is about to implode.

The series kicks off with John meeting a British Iranian man who claims he has intelligence about a known gang in Stockport, but before he can share the information with the MI5 agent, he is executed by an assassin whom John then kills in self defence.

John is then wrongfully placed under internal investigation, facing scrutiny from his superiors, leading John to question whether the threat might be closer to home than he released.

Is he just paranoid, or is he really onto something? Well, the show is called Betrayal...

i don’t think they’re based in London are they? It seems to be Merseyside & Greater Manchester. He’d go to London, but not necessarily based there.

You’re right, he got to Stockport town centre quickly. Just read that it was almost all filmed in Liverpool and Greater Manchester.

I thought they lived in London. And he travelled to Stockport. And that’s why they slept there as missed the last train.

It’ll probably go the way of most espionage dramas, I’ll lose track of who is who or what is going on.
It is only four episodes though , so might be ok

I missed the fact that they lived in London as well.

Such a horrible job. I’d be taking that redundancy if I was him but he seems to be on self-destruct mode.

I really enjoyed episode 1. Immediately suspicious of Greg, but then I also think that’s deliberately manipulated by the writers. He’s a bit like Spider from Slow Horses (which I absolutely loved).

Could Mehreen be a wrong ‘un? She said Iranian parent but could have even stronger links.

Incredibly difficult job in the real world no doubt. John is a bit of a dick though, in the way he treats his wife.

It’s definitely grabbed my interest. And made me want to watch Spooks again!

The lead actors are great - so I had high hopes, but there were too many points at which I was asking "why" (such as why he meet the guy on his own, why he agreed to see the counsellor when he already knew he'd be in Stockport meeting days guy and it just continued) and I'm not sure I care enough about any of the characters to wait for the answers....

These dramas always has the main lead going off grid and in conflict with the main boss ( who is generally a woman boss) It’s kind of it’s DNA
