SPOILERS BRIDGERTON SEASON 4 - Benedict’s story

IWantToHibernate · 28/01/2026 16:55

I couldn’t see a thread so thought I would start one.

The first 4 episodes drop on Netflix tomorrow (29th Jan). We will then need to wait until 26th February for the other 4.

We all know it’s not a realistic period drama but it’s great escapism and I’m looking forward to binging the first 4 eps.

OP posts:

Watched the first one, and don't think I'll bother again! The dialogue is appalling, the postures, the attitudes, the woke nonsense, the colourblind casting - and the Benedict actor is dreadful and looks far too old for the role.

pouletvous · 31/01/2026 22:07

Bendict must be 20 years older than Sophie

DD was half watching with me while crocheting. Her verdict on dialogue was "they can't decide if they want to talk in old timey or modern"

I mean let's face it though DD my love, we're not watching it for the dialogue.

Luke Thompson is 9 years older than Yerin Ha.

This is how I know Season 4 doesn’t even compare to the other seasons! I don’t recall even noticing the horses during those Seasons whereas this time around I can’t stop thinking about the horses and I care far more about their welfare than I care about the main characters 🤣

This is what I meant to say, more concisely😁

And the whole Chindarella thing was just weird

sterlingiain · 31/01/2026 22:37

I absolutely loved it! Escapist nonsense which is perfect for me at the end of what’s felt like a long January.

Much better than the execrable season 4 but nowhere near as good as Season 1,2 and QC.

The Danbury, Mondrich, Varley etc sideshows are boring beyond belief. I want the Duke and Daphne and Kate and Anthony in their place.

Pen and Colin gave me the ick. The actors are too normal-looking to be sexy so their intimate scenes are akin to dogging. Vom. I’m also so bored of scenes of Penelope scribbling away. FFS we got the device long ago and the repetition adds nothing.

Yerin is an excellent actress and very pretty but she is not very sexy and the chin thing is very distracting.

Luke Thompson is very good looking but too old for the part now. Certainly too old for Sophie. There is none of the Kanthony chemistry - it all looks a bit hammy.

I will wait for February but so far it’s a 6.5/10.

The actors are too normal-looking to be sexy

This feels like a bit of a depressing perspective to me. Surely most of us are normal-looking and will date other normal-looking people? Does that mean most of us are destined never to desire our partners or be desired by them?

outofofficeagain · 31/01/2026 23:00

This thread is excellent. Good work everyone. Thank god someone is thinking of the horses.

Michael in Francesca’s book sees to the horses in the rain before he gets his kit off. True gent.

I don’t mind all the nonsense but the fever disappearing with a splash of whisky was taking things too far.

It’s not that he’a not attractive, but he’s too cheeky chappy to do proper passion. He has a Roger Moore vibe.

Violet’s negligee however.

Ha, I'm with you. I have NOT found my people in this thread. Benedict is my favourite Bridgerton brother and I absolutely love that arty, bisexual king (syphilis be damned). Sophie is gorgeous too - I can't wait for part two in Feb, it's all stupid, over the top and ridiculous but I adore the breathy longing stares and gorgeous set/costume design - pure escapism and best not over thought!

This has been my favourite series since season 1 😳

Yes! I have found a friend.

I fully agree, it's pure escapism.
I love they have borrowed some parts of history, but made and changed this world it into whatever they want.

The characters are from all races, heritage, sizes, shapes, ages, attractiveness, sexuality, and so on.

Can't wait for part 2.

CaragianettE · 31/01/2026 23:08

My thoughts in general:

  1. 'I am the tea that you are having' is the best line of the series so far

  2. Yerin Ha is adorable and I think she's my favourite female lead so far

  3. Having said that, she and Luke Thompson just somehow don't have the juice as a couple for me, it all feels a bit muted and going through the motions. I think Kanthony were the best couple in terms of chemistry

  4. I thought Luke Thompson was great on stage in 'A Little Life', but he seems a bit checked out to me here, and he can't make the corny supposedly hyper-romantic lines work in the way that Jonathan Bailey did

  5. I found the first 4 episodes really slow, like checking my watch slow, but I felt that about season 3 and then found the second half of the season much better, so let's hope that's the case here too

  6. Benedict is a real dick as a character, not a catch, and tbh it also feels like the stakes are low with him because he's not the head of the family or an estate and won't be in charge of anything, and isn't otherwise that interesting, so tbh do we really care about his life or his love story?

  7. The John and Francesca storyline: I like Victor Alli and I get that John is supposed to be a good husband, he's certainly supportive emotionally, but really - he can't tell whether his wife is having an orgasm or not, and they've been married for a year and he still hasn't given her one? It sort of seems like until this part of the story he hasn't even been trying, supposedly because he thought she might not want to be 'expressive' in bed? None of that is my definition of a good husband. Francesca deserves better.

I’m also in your gang as I absolutely love Bridgerton, and all the characters like Varley, and the below stairs that we are seeing more of.
Did any of you see the promo where they surprised a Bridgerton Superfan and took her to Paris for the premiere?
I loved the series so have binged the books and it’s all just fabulous!
I’m just annoyed I need to wait for the other half of the season.

Not sure what this says about me, but I thought the fingering was sexy 🙈

Im not alone, am I? Please tell me others are just as weird as me

Edited

You are not alone! Happy to be weird with you.😂

FiloPasty · 31/01/2026 23:10

I also am really warning to the Mondridges and like Lady Danbury putting her forward for lady in waiting.

Your loss then

what’s the issue with the colourblind casting - it’s a totally fictional world where they are creating and developing characters as they please

so really - this is a you problem rather than a bridgerton problem

Girl2345 · 01/02/2026 01:33

Oh I bloody loved every minute and costume are absolutely in detail gorgeous well done producers 😍

Pippipumpkin · 01/02/2026 07:31

Similar to the horses and money purse musings, I have spent more time than is reasonable wondering what happened to Sophie's belongings when she left the big country house in the middle of the night with Benedict. Surely the glove is a bit like Cinderella's shoe and vital to prove it was her?
Would she have been able to send for her things maybe?

PunnyMember · 01/02/2026 07:32

I agree with several posters here that I was thoroughly underwhelmed. I didn't find that the leads had any chemistry and the intimate scenes felt forced/inorganic. It just makes no sense that Benedict Bridgerton would be obsessed by a plain Jane like Sophie and the writing lapses, obvious green screen, bad cinematography, etc etc has just become too obvious to ignore at this point.

I find it telling that a lot of the chatter about this season isn't actually about the leading couple.

pouletvous · 01/02/2026 07:43

It’s ludicrous that he doesn’t recognise her

And after all these years of philandering, he’s finally found his true love in the little servant girl! Who’d have thought!

Sunshine99999 · 01/02/2026 08:19

I enjoyed it greatly and have watched it twice already! I think they have great chemistry but I too have been distracted by the poor horses, the coin purse and Sophie’s belongings which she apparently abandoned in the countryside. I thought the time leap to her move to the countryside was jarring too.

pouletvous · 01/02/2026 08:55

guessing that Sophie is the real heir to Lord Penwotsits estate

And then Benedict can marry her as his wife and she’s not destined to be his mistress

either way, she’ll get the clap though

pouletvous · 01/02/2026 08:56

This is the worst Bridgerton yet.

hollytheheroic · 01/02/2026 09:08

If people are still complaining about the colour blind casting at series 4 then it's def not for them.

teambrief · 01/02/2026 09:09

I’ve bloody loved it. The horses though. Poor things. Violet in her blue bedroom outfit was utterly stunning. The dresses and hair and make up have all been beautiful as always. I thought Lady Danbury at home in her dress with her hair down when Brimsley came to visit was gorgeous.

Benedict Fingerton is indeed a little old for Sophie I think. I haven’t read this book so it will be interesting to see where the next four episodes go. Must get the next book.

TheToothFairy999 · 01/02/2026 09:16

Just came back to say that I’m glad we didn’t see Violet naked and all tangled up in the bedsheets. How they portrayed her adventure really did prove that less can be very much more.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 01/02/2026 09:18

Sophie is not a plain Jane 😱 out of all the lead female characters I think she’s the most beautiful.

I’m also thinking Sophie is actually going to end up being rich and the wicked stepmother has stolen her money. If that’s the case Sophie’s father must have hired the worlds worse lawyer. Benedict is definitely no Prince Charming unfortunately and I think I’ll be sad for Sophie when they (I’m assuming) get married at the end.
