Suddenly got a reminder via my digi box telling me I had this to look forward to next monday.

And just thought given responses to last series would alert others to this tv event.

Am looking forward to the high level of quirky comments as in response to the last series ... https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/4980624-silent-witness-news-series-for-2024-starts-tonight-what-will-our-multi-tasking-pathologists-get-up-to-this-time

Silent Witness

Forensic pathologists face personal and professional challenges in a moody, tense thriller that moves from the crime scene to the lab.

Yay I love some Violent Shitness 🤣 if I didn't have so many years invested I don't think I'd bother. Although I did go back to the start in lockdown and watched it all again.

Did you mean to put this thread on the Telly Addicts board, OP, or is there a feminist angle? (I don’t mind it here just you may not get the intended audience - MNHQ will move it if you ask them toSmile)

oh Blush thanks!

I'm sure these is a feminist angle to this, but yes it should be on the telly addicts.

There have been some very funny threads in the past.

So will ask MNHQ to move.

(and now my secret viewing habits have been revealed on FWR)

Watched it all? Shock

Yup the whole lot 😂 it's funny seeing the same actors play different people later on in the series including the actor who plays Sam Ryan's son - and lots of actors in it before they made it

(wouldn't watch it all again though 😂)

I’m sorry to see Jack is still in it. I can’t warm to him and his relationship with Nicky just doesn’t work.

I know I saw a headline about Nicki splitting from long term partner and though great, she's left Jack behind.

But turns out it was about real life.

Jack and his newly dyed hair. He looks like Satan.

Maryberrysbouffant · 02/02/2026 21:59

Is this something I could watch without having to watch all the back catalogue?

I thought he looked like William Shakespeare when he had that polo neck jumper on 🤣

I’d say so. There are 29 series so that’s a hefty back catalogue to watch!

sanityisamyth · 02/02/2026 22:04

Ohhhh violent sickness!! Yippee!!

Fulmine · 02/02/2026 23:40

Does the Jack actor ever turn up in anything else? I fear we may be stuck with him as he's never going to move on to bigger and better things like his predecessors have.

If im remembering correctly i think someone said on a previous thread that he is a theatre actor

EnglishSpringerSpanielMum · 03/02/2026 15:56

Jack looks like some satanic wannabe. I'd love Nikki's wardrobe (and her figure!!).

Boolabus · 03/02/2026 16:05

I missed the last series but have watched many before that. I notice in last night's episode the detective did a lot more of the investigating, which is how it should be, in comparison to previous series when the Lyell staff completely take over, it flowed so much better because of that. Was it like that in the previous series too?

IwantToRetire · 03/02/2026 17:54

Well, what can I say.

I settled down to watch this first episode of the new series and was disappointed.

I can only think those continuing to make the series have been reading the Telly Addicts thread on past series and taken note.

Jack trying to look more normal instead of a walking brain dead hulk, Nicki not managing to somehow craft her short hair into elaborate braids to attend on site investigations. And only one cringing kiss (phew thank goodness)

Although they did let Maggie Stead poke fun at Jack.

And as others have said.

Letting detectives be detectives and letting the foresinic team get on with doing their job. (Is it still the Lyell Centre?)

Although Nicki has been empathetic and a bit interferring (episode 2)

The move to Birmingham seems to have turned it into yet another 9pm slot offering with none of its former idiosyncrasies.

Sad

Mine didn't record tonight - was watching the football and realised about halfway in the record button wasn't on.
Anyway, I liked the detective and felt she had a much better role than previous series where the police were just bumbling fools but did get very confused as to who was who and what was actually going on. I've downloaded tonight's so will watch tomorrow and make up my mind as to whether I watch the rest of it or not.

Think they said the Bowman centre.

So did I 😂 It was just the right level of gruesome + comforting for a year of slightly terrified isolation!

I might be a season behind now, though, so I'll have to check back in.

Oh, I dunno. They still had Nicky randomly turning up to talk to suspects, and would a private lab really have full and free access to criminal records? I was also deeply sceptical about a solicitor being allowed to turn up at prisoners' exercise time and chat to his client through the fence. I was even more sceptical about a solicitor on Legal Aid being able to spend that much time on one convicted client.

Your probably right.

I am so used to it being totally daft that I didn't apply proper critical thinking.

But yes, in some ways to get the plots to work they are rather haze on procedure.

In fact I never watched the original series. In that did Amanda Burton muscle in on the detective work?
