Suddenly got a reminder via my digi box telling me I had this to look forward to next monday.

And just thought given responses to last series would alert others to this tv event.

Am looking forward to the high level of quirky comments as in response to the last series ... https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/4980624-silent-witness-news-series-for-2024-starts-tonight-what-will-our-multi-tasking-pathologists-get-up-to-this-time

Silent Witness

Forensic pathologists face personal and professional challenges in a moody, tense thriller that moves from the crime scene to the lab.

Saw a lot of comment had been added to thread and thought it would be about the issue of the 2 episodes being broadcast this week.

The Enemy Within.

It seems it pair of episodes is going to focus on current in the news topic.

So I found the 2 that weren't shown last week but are on iPlayer really sad and accepted as part of the story line.

This week it is like they are trying a bit too hard, or its a bit clunky.

But I think in the past they have done this.

I've got over the beard, but am counting number of times hair is braided!

(In this week's episodes who is the actor playing the police side kick? His face is so familiar. But just cant place him.)

Thanks - but I never watched that!

Okay I've looked him up - Gerrard Kearns

Cant say I recognise the name but suspect I remember him from Shameless, but since seems to have been in any number of well known series.

Thank you @tapdancingmum Just looked him up on IMDB and looking through the list I knew him from Shameless where he played Ian Gallagher! It was bugging me so much as he was so familiar but just couldn't remember where from.

The thing with Jacks disappearing/reappearing beard is because, I assume, episodes 2&3 were postponed due to a real life stabbing in the area that weekend, so they are showing it this week instead. At least we will see why he gets rid of it. Guessing some deepfake will be broadcast with his face, but won't find out until tomorrow as it's my dhs birthday today so we will whispers so blondes doesn't hear finishing off Small Prophets tonight instead (her name didn't come up so she won't see 😆 )

ZookeeperSE · 18/02/2026 23:24

Why is Jack cosplaying Ming The Merciless.
And why is Maggie Steed, a bloody fabulous actress, so under used/under written?

Fatmumslim01 · 22/02/2026 13:55

Has anyone else seen the enemy within (both parts) as is as confused as I am!

Yes?! I was presuming there’s a part 3 to come?
But nothing showing on iPlayer.

Off to google episodes of season 29- will see if there’s any info online 👀

Can I just check - having never joined a Silent Witness thread before, I'm not sure what the expectations are. Can we not discuss what actually happens in the episode plots (once aired)?

Or is detailed plot discussion off the cards and just things like Jack's hair (which a perfectly understandable topic of discussion: what's going on there!!).

Anyway agree, the ending of the second Enemy Within, you'd think there would be some follow on from it. But considering Creekwood was the original next episode (I think) to Enemy Within, there was nothing!

whoTFismadelaine · 22/02/2026 16:53

I do have to keep stopping Violent Shitness. The AI one was so obvious I got in quite a rage and only went back to finish it because there is nothing else on. I think they time it seasonally to perfection for this reason. Televisual void really works in it's favour.

As I feel every year, Jack outdoes himself with his uber macho thickness and Nicky has become a bimbo with Kit being the only hard worker who knows how to use any technology at all. The fake piano playing makes me want to throw my laptop out of the window too. Even Nicky's clothes aren't as exciting as they used to be.

I think there has to be a follow up, even if a minor thread, now that Jack has been faked.

Or maybe not! Just some throw away line about bewared of what might seem real on the internet.

From both this and the last series, that sort of tackled a current theme in the news over 2 episodes.

I think that without anyone saying this is the "rule" usually wait till both episodes in one week have been broad cast. ie those of us who watch both on the same day via iPlayer try not to post spoilers, but only a 24 hour delay.

But at the moment, I am not even clear that they are ever going to show the 2 that weren't broadcast.

Could also post about Creekwood and just say spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen it or something!

The episodes this coming week are called Grace of God.

Can I just ask - the ending of the last one, Enemy within, was a little ambiguous (well they make it pretty obvious who was responsible but normally they make it crystal clear) - it just kind of felt like it ended randomly in the middle of the scene?

Well I never recognised who the person was. Maybe (as I sometime do) I nodded off but dont remember anyone about him and then he was just there.

But my memory of the ending was culprit found, Jack and Nikki arriving at new home, all's right with the world and then the AI generated video of Jack.

Not even that there would be more to that story, but just to say dont get complacent.

Last nights episode was so shit. I do not care about that big lump Jack. He can’t act. He’s so boring. What does Nicky see in him??

Also once again breaking rules letting Nicky examine the body.

I can't imagine any female finding Jack a catch. Remember he likes bashing brains and having his own bashed regularly despite knowing the medical repercussions. As does Nicky, apparently, yet she has lumped herself in with someone who "wasn't sure" if he agreed with a bunch of racists and is highly likely to develop an issue with his brain in the near future through lifestyle choice. Not only that but he is not clever and prefers her when she is being dumbed down. I can't imagine anything worse. I think all the near death experiences Nicky goes through must have given here some hugely unresolved traumas to ignore his red flags repeatedly.

My Mum passed away on the Friday after being a Silent Witness fan for many years. I went to Acocks Green shopping on the Monday and saw them filming for the series, most interesting, especially as a member of the public approached the actress as she recognised her not realising they were filming! Thought of my Mum, how she would have loved being there.

Sorry to hear about your Mum @HangryBrickShark
I love watching Silent Witness but agree it is a load of codswallop these days. No doubt I’ll still be watching in many years to come.

IwantToRetire · 24/02/2026 17:22

I've watched both episodes and it just reminded me how little I like Jack's character.

And not helped by the whole way he was introduced into the series, and then pairing up with Nicky was / is so unconvincing.

I can see that to have "tension" in the series by having some sort of male hunk with a fondness for violence as a contrast with Nicky's character might have worked.

Also, its one thing having the forensic team doing the dectives' job now they are doing the criminals' as well!

I’m interested to know how Jack has become an honorary Professor - has he a particularly academic background that I’ve missed somewhere?

Cherryblossom99 · 24/02/2026 19:45

I hate Jack, he’s not right for Nicki and I would love them to get divorced and for Jack to leave the show.

space99 · 24/02/2026 19:49

Just watching the latest episodes. Didn’t think it was possible for the series to get worse. I agree that Nikki would be better off without Jack, they aren’t remotely suited.

I think it was maybe Harriet pulling strings again. She seems to be connected to everyone with power throughout the UK.

There was a scene earlier in this series when Jack mumbled something about could he be a professor or something. And Nicky being all supportive.

Wonder if this and the last few series have been all about Nicky remolding Jack from man of violence to man of thinking or something.

I think in her heart of hearts she has never got over Harry, the ultimate English gentleman who never got over his guilt for being just that.

I thought he left the series to do good works in Africa, but turns out he left to get a better job in America. My memories are shattered!

I’m another who isn’t sold on the great love story. They worked as friends but as lovers, spouses it just doesn’t work.

Onelittledog · 24/02/2026 20:23

From some one who is portrayed as a total professional Nikki has no issues smooching with the husband every chance she gets. I've watched every single episode of Silent Witness but it has got ridiculous. Jack was marching in ahead of the police officers in one scene and I may have already said it but stop with the kissing, it makes my toes curl
