Suddenly got a reminder via my digi box telling me I had this to look forward to next monday.

And just thought given responses to last series would alert others to this tv event.

Am looking forward to the high level of quirky comments as in response to the last series ... https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/4980624-silent-witness-news-series-for-2024-starts-tonight-what-will-our-multi-tasking-pathologists-get-up-to-this-time

Silent Witness

Forensic pathologists face personal and professional challenges in a moody, tense thriller that moves from the crime scene to the lab.

What's with the philosophical talk overs now from Harriet, straight out of call the midwife., are they trying to say she's losing her memory.

Must be my hearing I thought that was Nicky.

But Harriet would make more sense in terms of her character ie sitting back and letting people make idiots of themselves by stating facts that aren't fact, and then at the end explaing the fact or the idea!

I think they were both speaking.

Wishimaywishimight · 03/03/2026 18:10

Kit and the new cop have more life and (not sexual) chemistry in their chats than Nikki and Jack have managed in their entire relationship, they bounced off each other reallly well. Quite entertaining.

Harriet's rambling philosophising along with her piano playing, need to be rapidly dispatched.

MissMoneyFairy · 04/03/2026 09:53

What an absolute crock, such a shame, it was really good until they introduced the Jack character, he's so unbelievable

NewAgeNewMe · 04/03/2026 14:00

Okay 2 minutes in and I knew Lucy Cohu couldn’t be a bit actor.
i reckon she’s a wrong ‘un. 🤔

NewAgeNewMe · 04/03/2026 15:48

That was a load of rubbish. It needs to end now I think. Wrap it up after the next series.

I dont think it is a load of rubbish, but think in trying to add a more serious, political slant to it, to make it different from the other really facile "crime" dramas shown on most channels at 9pm it just doesn't suceed.

And sadly I think that is because the 2 lead characters are each individually implausible, and together just dont work.

It was better when they each had their own back story.

But did like the short exchange about whether or not Nicky had "a lesbian vibe".

(I think some of the Strike story lines tried to reflect current news etc., and dont think that always worked. And on reflection not sure that I ever quite accepted the interaction between the 2 main characters!)

The relationship isn’t believable at all. And the thing with Lucy Cohu made Nicky seem a bit dim imo.

More that she doesn't understand the idea of a lesbian vibe than Jack!

You didn't get to know how the female detective was involved, the whole story was ridiculous and how does Jack get so involved in all the crimes, hes a super hero big dog

NewAgeNewMe · 04/03/2026 18:34

Yes forgot the female detective. And I wasn’t on my phone either.

I think she was only there to make some point about how an older detective, even if an older unreconstructed male was better at the job than someone young (and wrongly promoted to fill equality quotas?)

Just as the conversation between the detective and Kit was about not playing by the rules?

I thought she sent a text to someone saying they have the cctv?

NewAgeNewMe · 04/03/2026 19:50

She did.

I think you have misunderstood my comments, which maybe I didn't explain.

There were 2 instances when the old timer type detective spoke in a way which in terms of what is said to be currently acceptable would have got him if not the sack, some sort of suspension.

Firstly telling the younger female detective she was useless and had only been promoted to fill a quota (cant remember the exact words)

Then later when he went with Kit to get the DNA or something, he made jokes about what was her view like from "down there" or something like that. She replied pointing out this wasn't how she was normally treated or something, and he said he thought the best approach was to make jokes and if they were accepted there wasn't a problem.

I may be making too much of it, but it seems to be part of Silent Witness now. Dialogue isn't just about moving the plot along but about making some sort of social comment on the state of the world today.

And maybe the voice over rambplings were as well, but that just went right over my head, so not sure about that!

Just watched The Enemy Within.

Bit weird!

Was surprised Jack kept going to that gym!

The end with the copper meeting up presumably a stake & then nothing!

The video of "Jack" at the end.

Felt as if I'd missed a chunk!

Tigresswoods · 06/03/2026 22:11

What were these 2 episodes about???? The whole show has taken a very odd turn.

diddl · 07/03/2026 09:11

I didn't really understand the last two either.

I think I just didn't care by then!

I found all the AI stuff really tedious & it just all seemed like a platform for someone's opinions.

Jack is just an out & out thug!

I like Kit & Harriet though.

Fulmine · 07/03/2026 09:28

I watched the last episode on catch up yesterday, and in the evening watched an episode of Lynley where they had the standard post mortem scene. Amazingly enough, the pathologist didn't have her hair up in cut mini plaits, and just buggered off and left the detectives to it after the post mortem. It was really quite refreshing.

Fatmumslim01 · 07/03/2026 09:28

I haven't understood any of this series at all !

Tigresswoods · 07/03/2026 19:53

Agree @diddlKit is the best thing about this whole series.

IwantToRetire · 07/03/2026 22:45

Well I think the problem is with trying to be topical in terms of current news as part of the plot. Rather than some local daily life type story.

I mean I know they are now the UK leading team of pahtologists(!) but every week a story out of newspaper headlines.

There were too many characters for me, and I think they relied too much on those watching to instantly linking part of the plot to a current or recently currrent news story.

I never worked out who the fake Me Lie was. Was she in league with the Hong Kong authorities or ... so if anyone is interested this is an AI summary.

The last two episodes of Series 29, titled "Shame: Part One" and "Shame: Part Two", aired on 2 and 3 March 2026. The story followed a complex case involving international politics, technology theft, and personal betrayal as the team settled into their new lives in Birmingham.

Plot Summary

  • The Initial Discovery: The case began with the recovery of a woman's body from a river. Security services agent Alex Burns identified her as

Mei Li, a pro-democracy activist from Hong Kong with a bounty on her head.

  • The Identity Twist: Forensic evidence soon suggested the victim was already dead before entering the water. In a major twist, the team discovered the real Mei Li was alive and hiding in her parents' restaurant. The deceased woman was actually

Na Chen, a student who had stolen high-value intellectual property from a US university.

  • The Tech Conspiracy: The investigation revealed that Na Chen’s death was linked to a battle between rival companies over "weapons of tomorrow" technology. A secondary victim, Rodrigo, was found to have been poisoned with Bufotoxin.
  • Nikki in Danger: Nikki befriended a woman named

Helen, who appeared to be a victim of a handbag robbery. However, Helen was secretly working for a tech firm called Forgeon Systems. During drinks, Helen drugged Nikki and took her to a warehouse where her associate, Linda—the real killer—was waiting.

  • The Resolution: Linda and Helen’s partnership fractured when Linda demanded more toxin to kill Nikki. A fight broke out between the two women, and Jack Hodgson arrived just in time to save Nikki as the authorities moved in.

Are we getting the 2 missing episodes? Tomorrow at 9 its Death in Paradise.

OP posts:
ChillingWithMySnowmies · 08/03/2026 21:31

we aren't missing any. They just swapped them with the ones aired the week after.

"The Enemy Within" was originally meant to be 3/4, but was swapped with "Creekwood" which was originally 5/6.
