Which once loved tv shows do you think have now gone on too long and have become boring, repetitive, predictable and tedious and just need to stop?

I’ll start:
Bake Off
The Apprentice
Call the Midwife

OP posts:

Anything with Ant and Dec
The cheekie chappie Geordies it's been done to death.
Annoying pair of cunts.

As somebody who has just started maternity leave and started watching daytime TV, my suggestion would be all of the programmes about buying and selling absolute shit.

The channels seem obsessed with people rooting around in their houses or antique shops, to find something to sell for £3.50 at auction.

Tedious bollocks!

Been retired for a couple of years you need Netflix or Prime etc, there is nothing on day time TV.

Londonnight · 22/01/2026 10:51

Mrs Browns Boys!! I have never liked it and really can't understand why it is still on mainstream TV.

Ant and Dec --- they've had their day
The Apprentice
All the Soaps [ I watch corrie still, but it is getting more and more dire ]
BGT
Masked Singer
Strictly
Love Island
Big Brother

awaynboilyurheid · 22/01/2026 11:05

Mrs B boys goes without saying who ever commissioned this tripe should be sacked
I’m a celeb get me out of here , minor celebs /ex soap “stars” getting covered in cockroaches or eating some animals testicles has been done to death now but lovely pre Xmas holiday for Ant n dec
Anything with a celeb and their child /parent , Bradley Walsh and his boring son going on freebie holidays
Ramesh and his mum about as funny as watching paint dry

Erin1975 · 22/01/2026 11:11

Dr Who needs to end.

I have never understood Strictly or BGT - it isn't ever as good as Sat night viewing in the 80's/90's - if you had told us then that a version of the school talent show and effectively ballroom dancing that was then popular in Australia only would be prime time telly you'd have been laughed out of the room.

Oh rubbish, Saturday night TV in the 1980s/1990s was absolute SHITE. Generation Game, Big Break, Noel's Houseparty. FFS.

Erin1975 · 22/01/2026 11:11

Dr Who needs to end.

Should have stopped after Tennant, the writing(?) just seemed to go down none of it makes sense

There is talk of the same writers resurrecting Blakes 7 - I seriously hope not as they are absolute shite and will ruin it

I know it's awful/immoral, but I really miss the talkshow heyday of daytime TV from my student years.

I used to love watching Trisha, Jeremy Kyle, Ricky Lake etc. in between lectures. 😳

All of these 'selling crap I found in the kitchen drawer' programmes can't compete really.

I was still at work during those days so don't remember them. I love antiques but I am so bored with it all. TV rarely on during the day

AdaDex · 22/01/2026 11:40

News that isn't news needs to stop.

This probably won't be popular but I'm going to say it anyway.

For example, the national news may report that a car has crashed somewhere and two people died. While this is an awful event and dreadful for the family and friends, it's not news. I can see the relevance of reporting it locally but for the rest of the country it simply isn't relevant and nor is it 'news'.

News has become a trauma dump and unnecessary. You won't see a report of someone you don't know, who lives hundreds of miles away who had a great day. You might hear about it if they had a tragedy though. Why?

Witless Silence, as French and Saunders used to call it lol

That money for nothing crap with the woman hanging about a tip picking up crap to be up cycled into well..another piece of crap.

PuppyMonkey · 22/01/2026 12:58

Agree about Doctor Who - at least maybe rest it for 5 years or something.

I’m also astounded that The Apprentice keeps getting recommissioned, it’s just so boring now as we’ve been watching them do the same tasks for 20 + years. How many more times can we watch teams try and make a sausage or a cake and sell them or do a bleddy advert? Confused

Rosemary61 · 22/01/2026 15:42

Strictly
This morning
BGT
I'm a Celeb

Middlemarch123 · 22/01/2026 15:49

Strictly.
I‘m a celebrity
Call the midwife
The Chase. Love Bradley Walsh, Beat the Chasers is good, but I think we need a break from the original.
Obvs Mrs Brown’s Boys.

The ballroom series Come Dancing was on UK prime time for decades before Strictly began. I loved 80s/90s Saturday night telly, but objectively it was not great!

Disasterclass · 22/01/2026 16:04

Anything where the worth of the contestants seems to be based on who has the worst backstory/ sob story. Just feels so manipulative to them and to us as the viewer.

Having 2 versions of the Traitors so close together has put me off it. Gave up on the Apprentice and Strictly ages ago

threesocksmorgan · 22/01/2026 16:59

Football and any thing with ant and Dec in it.

InstinctD · 22/01/2026 18:08

I think it’s all going rather Black Mirror style tb honest. Feed the corporate greed, we are the meaningless masses. Churn out the cheap and repetitive, dumb us down, encourage no-think (1984 anyone?), narrow the public range of thought. If every single offering is mediocre (so very very mediocre) why would we complain? When nothing is stand out it all becomes ever muddier shades of…. Magnolia.
Eyes down, follow the format, keep it going, keep it bland and cheap. Use the same people again and again and again, doing the same programmes again, again and again. Advertise aggressively (across all media ) until our eyes bleed. There are profits to make people, life long salaries and careers to sponsor.
I think our tastes have been dumbed down so much and for so long - with let’s be honest the majority of intelligence removed and ever lowering quality, do we even register it anymore? If there was an hour long program of an aquarium - just a single camera angle, one long take, no commentary, I’d chose that over the vast majority of rubbish shows.
So let’s drink our Victory coffee, have a bar of Victory chocolate and settle in because the AI’s will be sorting out our programming before long. It will probably be a lot better, so that’s something to look forward to at least.

RenoDakota · 22/01/2026 18:41

All antique shows, especially the ones where they are driving around the country and the one where they do that stupid kick at the end. "Yes? Yes!" Ugh.

Anything with Clarkson in.

That one where they sit on a big rotating wheel.

The Apprentice.

All scam interceptor type things.

But NOT Call the Midwife! What the hell are you lot thinking that have mentioned that?

SplendidUtterly · 22/01/2026 20:10

Deal or no Deal!
This is next level cringe.
The crying, the hand holding, the dramatic gasps 😂

x2boys · 23/01/2026 17:36

I think it has finished now but you've been framed went on far longer than it should have done it was mildly funny at first but very quickly lost its appeal.

I’m a celebrity - actively encouraging people to have zero respect for insects & other creatures. So cruel…numerous petitions and pleas made by wildlife presenters to stop it but yet still it continues.
