Yay. It’s back.

So recap of s1

The gripping first series aired in 2024, and introduced Sophie Rundle as PC Jo Marshall. After a body was discovered in the aftermath of a devastating flood, heavily pregnant Jo began investigating the man’s possible murder.
However, pursuing the killer changed everything for her when she discovered that her beloved boss Sergeant Mackie was complicit in the local crime – and bent as they come. Sadly, under Mackie’s influence, Jo’s boyfriend was also on the take.

Set against the backdrop of the rising threat of flooding and moorland fires, season 2 (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/after-the-flood-season-2-first-look-newsupdate/) will follow Jo and her new partner DS Sam Bradley (played by Jill Halfpenny), as they try to track down a killer following the discovery of a body in bizarre circumstances.

But Jo's efforts “bring her into direct conflict with powerful and influential forces within the town, ultimately drawing her into an investigation that becomes deeply personal”, the official synopsis teases.

“One that will require her to operate in secret if she is to have any hope of rooting out the corruption that has blighted the town's police force – and her own family – for decades.”

Alongside Rundle, additional returning cast members in season 2 include Nicholas Gleaves as Sergeant Mackie, whose corrupt ways were discovered by Jo in season 1 – only for Mackie to threaten to destroy her family’s reputation if she breathed a word.

The season ended on a big cliffhanger as Jo was left debating whether to turn him in or not.

Philip Glenister will also be returning as Mackie’s former ally, Jack Radcliffe, while Faye McKeever will be back as Kelly Kamali.

George Bukhari will also return as Keith Kamali, Maui Connock as Sophie Kamali, Tripti Tripuraneni as PC Deepa Das, Heider Ali as DS Babak, Leo Flanagan as Finn, and Jacqueline Boatswain as Sarah Mackie.

Meanwhile, new additions this time alongside Halfpenny include Alun Armstrong (Sherwood), Ian Puleston-Davies (Pennyworth) and Matthew McNulty (The Jetty).

Anil Desai (The Night Manager season 2) has also joined the cast, alongside Steph De Whalley (Doctor Who), Nathalie Armin (Maigret), Tony Marshall (Sister Boniface Mysteries), Roger Morlidge (The Bank of Dave), Oliver Nelson (Home Fires), Jenny Platt (Waterloo Road) and newcomer Lola Brown.

It was good, I enjoyed it too. I was still hoping Pat's finger might twitch when she sat with him though!

I was pleasantly surprised when Jack did the right thing too as I didn't really warm to him, but he redeemed himself in the end.

I wondered about a season 3 too but surely Mackie couldn't get away with it all and with that storyline gone I'm not sure what the setting could revolve around. I'd still watch though!

Agree with all of that, there's surely plenty enough evidence to pin Pat's murder on Mackie, for starters.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/02/2026 09:04

hopefully they will find the bloody rock he smashed over pats head as he just chucked it

OP posts:
TheWeeDonkeyFella · 03/02/2026 10:17

Hopefully they'd be able to prove Pat sustained other head injuries before the fall (I did hide my eyes when the attack started but Mackie seemed to strike a few blows with his baton).

I was pondering a S3 last night and hope it wouldn't be about Mackie trying to prove his innocence and blame Pat. There are a lot of skeletons from Mackies past in this series that would hopefully still come forward against him, even without Pats support.

moto748e · 03/02/2026 11:45

Forensics would be a ble to recover the deleted texts from Pat's phone, proving Jo's claim that she never sent them. And there's bound to be traces at the crime scene. In the real world, Mackie is screwed. In TVLand, though, you never know...

CarlStoleMyUnderpants · 03/02/2026 13:20

I don't get how Mackie was so powerful. He was only a step up from Jo, just a bog standard sergeant in a uniform.

CarlStoleMyUnderpants · 03/02/2026 13:22

I have seen Mackie in a 1996 Poldark film and he is hot! Now he looks like a scrawny skeleton! Is that deliberate??

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 03/02/2026 14:34

To be fair @CarlStoleMyUnderpants that would have been 30 years ago! 😆

Re his power, perhaps it's an under the radar/steady and dependable kind of thing, and he may only be a sergeant but had a lot of influence due the holds he got over colleagues along the way.

I did think that too. He struts around like he owns the nick, he comes and goes as he pleases, he never seems to have a boss on his back...

I suppose he’s the senior uniformed officer? There was a point where the DI slapped him down about something he’d not got on with fast enough or suchlike which he didn’t like one bit.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/02/2026 21:54

He was hot in younger days - now 57. Been married to the lovely Lesley sharpe for over 30yrs

So many questions.
Is Jo still under arrest at the end?
Does Sam believe her?
Will Mackie get away with it?

moto748e · 03/02/2026 23:46

Well, there was that £50k (?), just resting in their joint account...

Idontthinkicandothisanymore · 04/02/2026 14:02

I cried my eyes out at the ending. I didn’t want him to die.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/02/2026 14:18

I think she was under arrest but due to mackie and Pat and th phone she prob wasn’t after

I too thought he was much higher than a sergeant , he seemed in charge of pretty much the whole Police Station !

I think they'll let Jo off
And Sam believes her
And Mackie won't get away with it
