So recap of s1

The gripping first series aired in 2024, and introduced Sophie Rundle as PC Jo Marshall. After a body was discovered in the aftermath of a devastating flood, heavily pregnant Jo began investigating the man’s possible murder.
However, pursuing the killer changed everything for her when she discovered that her beloved boss Sergeant Mackie was complicit in the local crime – and bent as they come. Sadly, under Mackie’s influence, Jo’s boyfriend was also on the take.

Set against the backdrop of the rising threat of flooding and moorland fires, season 2 (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/after-the-flood-season-2-first-look-newsupdate/) will follow Jo and her new partner DS Sam Bradley (played by Jill Halfpenny), as they try to track down a killer following the discovery of a body in bizarre circumstances.

But Jo's efforts “bring her into direct conflict with powerful and influential forces within the town, ultimately drawing her into an investigation that becomes deeply personal”, the official synopsis teases.

“One that will require her to operate in secret if she is to have any hope of rooting out the corruption that has blighted the town's police force – and her own family – for decades.”

Alongside Rundle, additional returning cast members in season 2 include Nicholas Gleaves as Sergeant Mackie, whose corrupt ways were discovered by Jo in season 1 – only for Mackie to threaten to destroy her family’s reputation if she breathed a word.

The season ended on a big cliffhanger as Jo was left debating whether to turn him in or not.

Philip Glenister will also be returning as Mackie’s former ally, Jack Radcliffe, while Faye McKeever will be back as Kelly Kamali.

George Bukhari will also return as Keith Kamali, Maui Connock as Sophie Kamali, Tripti Tripuraneni as PC Deepa Das, Heider Ali as DS Babak, Leo Flanagan as Finn, and Jacqueline Boatswain as Sarah Mackie.

Meanwhile, new additions this time alongside Halfpenny include Alun Armstrong (Sherwood), Ian Puleston-Davies (Pennyworth) and Matthew McNulty (The Jetty).

Anil Desai (The Night Manager season 2) has also joined the cast, alongside Steph De Whalley (Doctor Who), Nathalie Armin (Maigret), Tony Marshall (Sister Boniface Mysteries), Roger Morlidge (The Bank of Dave), Oliver Nelson (Home Fires), Jenny Platt (Waterloo Road) and newcomer Lola Brown.

So Alan Armstrong is a baddie as well ?

OP posts:
moto748e · 19/01/2026 22:56

Well he's pretty much got it stamped on his forehead. Even before the last scene.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/01/2026 23:02

True. Doesn’t he usually play a baddie

OP posts:
moto748e · 19/01/2026 23:07

Not always, I think. I'm actually not than enamoured with Sophie Rundle; I just don't think she's a very good actress. But I like the story as a whole, and the way that it's going.

NewAgeNewMe · 20/01/2026 17:12

Not sure I’m loving it. May just skip to the last episode or have on while I’m ironing.

i mainly associate Alun Armstrong with New Tricks so no!

re Mackie - he’s worse than bent, he was one of the murderers in S1 wasn’t he?

I think I do too, although he's done loads of stuff. Yeah, Mackie's a wrong 'un all right.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/01/2026 13:53

Yes mackie is bad. I dont think he killed anyone but he knew the lift had died and said to bump the other man off

Doesn’t like to get his hands dirty

Just caught up with the episodes to date so can now join in! I quite enjoyed S1 and this looks promising too.

Although I did thinks Pat's crime board, complete with Mackie photo, on the inside of his wardrobe door was a bit daft especially living with his awful family who don't seem to have privacy boundaries.

Hope Mackie gets his comeuppance this time around.

Yes… not sure why he’d need a photo of Mackie!
