Aw, Kaz is going. I loved her bookends, the texture of the tree trunks in particular. Thought it might have been Witney. Pleased Kayleigh won.

EnterQueene · 11/01/2026 20:57

Caz is so so lovely- what a shame, such a hard decision

AlicePottery · 11/01/2026 20:57

Oooh, puzzle jugs, no idea what they are!

The right decision but Kaz was great, I’ll miss her.
I can’t understand Kayleigh’s winning, it was very, very Green, although the fish appearing to fly was good.

EnterQueene · 11/01/2026 21:00

I loved Kayleigh’s - it wasn’t just green, there was so much texture, character and the blue sea. It was whimsical & folk lore based, so fit the brief perfectly.

Littletreefrog · 11/01/2026 21:01

The Wild Man booked ends were just a big green blob to my eyes although I'm sure there must be a reason they won. I would have chosen the avocado.

Wiki says that the necks of puzzle jugs are pierced, so there has to be an alternative way to get liquid from the belly of the jug to the spout. Add in additional holes that you might have to seal with your fingers and it can get very complicated.

I loved Kayleigh’s one as a one off piece but the avocado one could be really commercial.

JumpingPumpkin · 11/01/2026 21:49

It would be really interesting to see them judged blind, it must affect their decisions to know who made what.

Chrysanthemum5 · 11/01/2026 22:05

I liked marks one I loved how he made it in one piece then divided it.

I like Kayleigh's as well and naveeds

I have no memory of Emily at all

I felt angharad should have gone

Sminty2 · 11/01/2026 22:06

I thought that Caz’s told a much better story than Witney’s, and although a bit wonky, seemed more fitting of the brief than Witney.

Manename · 11/01/2026 23:18

Loved Caz’s reaction at the end. She was lovely but I think it was the right decision

I don’t feel the avocado was really a pair as a bookend if the idea was on the shelf it looks like one thing cut in half to hold the books. It was a great piece though.

Just catching up - love this show and such high quality this year. I'm a (pretty novice) potter and I always get vaguely peeved when a week is all hand building and no actual throwing! I'm just not creative nor patient enough to deal with the intricacies of hand building (but will happily admire others' work... from a safe distance)😅

To be pedantic - the brief was a story or connection between the bookends, not one thing cut in half. But in any case, the avocado was one thing cut in half - the 2 pieces fit together, it was very well made.

Caz's was so lovely, her finish really let her down. In any other year, no way would a fantastic piece like that send you home, they are all insanely good this year.

elgreco · 12/01/2026 08:31

I really liked the avocado. The skin side could have been a better colour but they were a nice size.
I liked the wild man one but thought it was a bit chunky.

Loved Kayleigh's, the fish and waves were really effective. So glad she won.

Thought again and agree, I think it might have the example of an apple. Agree on the standard being high, though it has felt that for me all the time as someone that made the most ugly basic ashtray at school.

My DD’s hobby was pottery, not kiln stuff just hand modelling. A couple of years ago she got a job in pottery barn type place. She teaches the wheel to children and she loves it.

For Christmas I bought her a book called The Healing Seasons of Pottery. I thoroughly recommend it for any one who loves working with clay.

Rose Schmits chose to leave the show. She is a very talented ceramist - you can see some of her amazing work here: About — ROSE SCHMITS

Amazing” isn’t a word I’d use to describe the offerings in the link, particularly the pieces labeled Trans Forms. They’re deeply disturbing and could easily be interpreted as the work of a very troubled mind.

Boododedoop · 12/01/2026 15:01

I liked it when Caz said she was very happy with her work and anything else would be gravy. She went home happy.

AlicePottery · 12/01/2026 16:15

Can anyone get a still of the tunnel bookends they showed at the beginning? I can't find anything online and don't have access to catch-up. It was a cartoon stlye sceen with a car going into a dark tunnel with grey stones.

Grr I can’t get a screen grab for some reason (just get a black screen on my phone/Mac), but is this what you were after?

Mumsnet thinks the photo might be “sensitive”, so it might take a while.

Madcats · 12/01/2026 17:07

Ooh, it looks as if somebody might have copied them; this looks really similar:
