SHOCKINMG DREADFUL WOMAN

OP posts:
MsDemeanor · 09/06/2008 22:58

I am not sure it was so successful though as a business makeover. I noticed the voiceover saying 'Three weeks later business is starting to pick up', which sounded a bit like tryign to big it up, so to speak (!)
She was a truly horrible woman though. I bet all her customers are reeling and vowing never to go there again now they know what she really thinks. Fat necks indeed!

ingles2 · 09/06/2008 23:00

I know! if I saw my regular shop portrayed like that I'd never darken their door with my fat ankles again

MsDemeanor · 09/06/2008 23:01

And your fat neck!

Shop woman had such a mean, nasty pinched face didn't she? why on earth did she open a shop selling bigger clothes if she was phobic about anyone above a size 8?

ingles2 · 09/06/2008 23:09

so weird I agree. She bought it as a going concern. Didn't strike me that she really HAD to make money though IYKWIM

Alambil · 10/06/2008 09:32

Is that the same Anna Scholz from the SimplyBe clothes? LOVED her range shown last night - looks fabulous

That's true Cod - just because women are fat or pregnant doesn't mean they have to set aside wanting to look fashionable.

Tis just a shame Evans is so expensive; I got 4 tops in M&S for the price of one in Evans!

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 09:38

lewis it IS the same one, she does a range for Simply Be as well as her own stuff

ooo where does she get them from? I'm sick of clothes from catalogues!

Alambil · 10/06/2008 09:42

Thanks Dizzy - liked her on the show last night when she said "I design clothes first, then adapt them" - I rant and rave in Evans changing rooms that they get the design all wrong on a lot of their stuff!

Lewis

principles do up to 20 in some styles
coast now have up to an 18
wallis do up to a 20
monsoon up to a 22
new look have a great plus size section
markies do great basics up to a 28
Sainsburys/Tesco and Asda go up to >20 as well
matalan have a papaya range up to a 20 and a plus size range called Rodgers and Rodgers

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 09:48

La Redoute have a plus size catalogue which has some nice stuff (some very strange stuff too but an occassional gem lol)

fishie · 10/06/2008 09:48

my sister gets a lot of stuff in monsoon. depends what shape you are really.

since a lot of shops have started stocking 18+ i think there is actually less choice in plus size for 30ish women. anna s used to have a designers at debenhams range but no more. and rogers+ is sorely missed. hate evans, dreadful nylon and mad leopard print.

Mercy · 10/06/2008 09:48

Blimey, what an interesting life she's led.

I wish she would bring out her own clothing line. I think she should also do a live interview on MN.

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 09:52

peacocks up to 20
dorothy perkins up to 22
ghost to an 18
hobbs to an 18

am probably not telling you any you don't already know

can I also point out that argos additions on line do Oasis clothing up to a size 20 and they're a great fit and generous too

Alambil · 10/06/2008 10:06

thanks dizzy - that's all great; am looking for a size 18 evening-y dress soon

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 10:08

at size 18 - am hoping not to put on too much weight these last few weeks so I'll be an 18-20 once baby born - not that I'll be depriving myself in any way

give me a shout if you need a hand but coast do lovely dresses and are online to browse and don't forget the designers at debenhams do at least up to an 18 too

WilfSell · 10/06/2008 10:41

Oh my god, Mary Portas is now my new guru (sorry Cod, Gok and MrsB...). Here's why:

  1. She is rocking her own look. Jeez, if I was that thin, I'd nick it in an instant.
  1. She was featured in LivingEtc this month and has a lovely house and is living a fantastic lady's lady, two kids and working in fashion industry dream.
  1. She has the best hair. I had to ring up my mum last night (who is 65) and who can't for love or money get her hair done properly (perhaps because she keeps insisting on going round to Debbie up the road and paying 15 quid for a shit cut and awful highlights) to tell her to GET THAT BOB AND COLOUR because although a bit chunkier, my mum looks a teeny bit like Portas' angular Roman schtick...
  1. And so excellent at telling off bigots idiots who sell clothes to fat birds. What a great show!
Enid · 10/06/2008 10:42

ditto wilfsell

except she has been my guru since the last show

I agree about her look

WilfSell · 10/06/2008 10:45

And I'm now going to go and post on style to see who knows where to get those American jeans (not, obv, the ones with diamante on )... That doesn't involve a trip to Ascot obv
