QuenchedSquirrel · 09/11/2025 16:44

The trailer for the second series of The Night Manager has been released.

The first episode is set to air on 1 January 2026!

Anyone else can't wait for this? All the talk over the years about a second series and it's almost here!

And Series 3 has been given the greenlight, too.

I can’t bear to think of poor Basil.

Perhaps coming back from the dead might be a theme of this season?

TheatreTheatre · 28/01/2026 16:49

Basil knows too much - they couldn't let him live. I think.

Hermyknee · 28/01/2026 17:10

The shirt!

It was beautifully ironed without any mildew, dust or cobwebs on either.

He could have styled a vintage one out like Stephenesque clothes from the traitor.

You can tell it’s written by a man. I haven’t looked but I bet I am right. If the writer, director or actor was ever in charge of doing the laundry wouldn’t they be saying that this is stretching believability? You can kind of forgive the implausibility of him not being dead but the little obvious details make it sloppy.

LittleBitofBread · 28/01/2026 17:19

The writer's a man, but the two directors are women: Susanne Bier (who directed at least some of the first season) and Georgi Banks-Davies (directed the second season, don't know if she also did some of the first).

maslinpan · 28/01/2026 17:28

I liked the dusty red car which started perfectly after 20 years in a garage.

HermioneWeasley · 28/01/2026 17:38

I must have missed something - did roxanna tell Roper where she was? I assumed they had found her (in her entirely obvious “hiding place”).

RichardOnslowRoper · 28/01/2026 17:40

I like Hugh Laurie so much in this I changed my user name! Can't believe he used to be Bertie Wooster.

Basil being shot by the British seems unbelievable, as does Angela Burr lying about Roper.
Tom Hiddleston is rather too competent and successful as Pine. You can tell he produced it himself, with all the impeccable blue shirts and bisexual dancing. That breathing over Roxana was nuts.

The women are very one dimensional too.

Yes, in both seasons they appear to have nothing to do but fling themselves at Pine ( except for Myra and Angela). But then it's Le Carre.

RichardOnslowRoper · 28/01/2026 17:57

Wouldn't Myra have tried to make Basil's death look like an accident? Rather than having him shot?

Also Teddy being Pine's new best friend rather too pat and easy. He went from being a warlord to a teddy bear in 10 minutes!

I didn't realise Medellin was that beautiful.

She called Juan, I think.

Why bother? They can just dispose of his body in such a way that it's never found.

Slatkater · 28/01/2026 23:10

Tom Hiddleston is reminding me of Peter Cushing? Anyone else? 🙂

Yes we wondered this but then realised that she was so annoyed that Pine couldn't give her what he promised that she went to Roper

RichardOnslowRoper · 29/01/2026 13:39

Roxana's hiding place was ridiculously stupid.

Not if you wanted a freshly laundered and ironed shirt it wasn't!

😂Indeed.

Hermyknee · 29/01/2026 14:31

Seconded. I am surprised the director is a woman. Wonder how often she does the laundry.

I think a black-haired TH definitely would look like James Bond should. Ian Fleming said he always envisaged Bond to look a bit like David Niven - waspish with dark hair and blue eyes. But TH hasn’t got the charisma, unless he’s playing it like that on purpose.

QuenchedSquirrel · 29/01/2026 19:51

Tom Hiddleston is playing Tom Hiddleston. I've seen him on Graham Norton and he's just as he plays Pine.

I dont really think he can act at all.

But he's so good as Loki. He should've channelled that character a bit.

I thought that until I saw him as the special guest in The Play What I Wrote and he was excellent. Which TBH is more infuriating as he clearly can act so why doesn't he do so more often?

Maybe he thinks why bother when he can do this role as himself. Who knows.

I like him more as Loki
i love your changed user name @RichardOnslowRoper😅😅
I don’t think basil can come back , Myra needed him gone , I also think we are gonna lose Teddy , some dramatic scene between him and TH before he dies

foxlover47 · 29/01/2026 23:33

Also I don’t quite get Roxanna , I don’t think it’s shown Teddy hurting her or giving her a really bad lifestyle or have I missed them scenes ?
