QuenchedSquirrel · 09/11/2025 16:44

The trailer for the second series of The Night Manager has been released.

The first episode is set to air on 1 January 2026!

Anyone else can't wait for this? All the talk over the years about a second series and it's almost here!

And Series 3 has been given the greenlight, too.

Oh God the fight by the water with the laptop scene I thought they were going to snog.

The poor dogs indeed Sad.

Raisondeetre · 25/01/2026 22:02

I hate the attempts to make it more sexually charged. That awkward scene with the woman whose name I can’t remember. It just didn’t work at all. The inference that Teddy and JO are attracted to each other. It’s just cringe.

PrincessScarlett · 25/01/2026 22:03

Oh my goodness that was SO good. The scene in the restaurant between Pine and Roper was electric!

And poor poor Teddy. I knew that Roper comment about Teddy not being fit for civilised society would come back to haunt him. I hope Teddy doesn't die. He deserves to get his revenge on Roper.

PrincessScarlett · 25/01/2026 22:05

Oh yes and poor Basil. He didn't deserve that. But I guess neither did Rex. Such a hero though refusing to give up Pine right to the very end. And clever Basil as well to ensure that all his evidence got to Angela.

It would have been more believable than the scene we did get with the woman.

Yet the most sexually charged scene was in the restaurant, starting with the too long handshake.

Roxanna isn't actually very pleasant at all. Pine is right about her that she does everything to save her own skin and gets mixed up in dodgy deals for her own selfish needs. She doesn't care about anyone and Tavo was right when he said he didn't want to be left with her because she's one of them. I'm glad Pine didn't go any further with Roxanna, he has some restraint at least!

Hels20 · 25/01/2026 22:23

Poor poor Basil but yes - v clever to get the info to Angela. Made me really reflect on how brave our intelligence agents must be. And the dogs! I guess it shows what a psychopath Roper is.

TheatreTheatre · 25/01/2026 23:01

@I think shooting the dogs shows how desperate / panicked he is. It was so irrational.

Surely Roxana’s family house is the first place they would have looked for her, before even she called Frisky. (Was it Frisky she called?) . Team Roper’s names are straight out of the Beano

Didn't she called Juan?

I thought that Roxana and Jonathan Pine/Matthew Ellis looked like a couple of fish with their mouths gaping in the will they-wont they scene....and yes thought the grappling by the water might end up in a snog as well!
But loved the episode. Glad the undercover guy has got away (for now - i hope JP is paying him handsomely) but poor Basil!!

QuenchedSquirrel · 25/01/2026 23:21

I hope Myra ends up face down in the Thames

Shooting the dogs just shows what an absolute psychopath Roper is, as if we didn’t know.

It’s a bit silly. It’s as though there’s a force field around him. Why did he not get shot at the restaurant or the beach or drowned in the boat. The sex is daft - they wouldn’t do that without the boy out the way. And the fumbling about, instant orgasm then chatting without any nuance a few seconds later. Really?

Excellent episode tonight I think. Hugh Laurie has really breathed life into this series. I find him mesmerising - think it is his voice….will wait until it has been show on terrestrial TV before discussions.

He makes an excellent baddie.

That sex scene was simultaneously ridiculous and unnecessary. It seemed to have been shoved in out of nowhere and with no no point. She didn't try and get him to do anything. Just touch her up a bit.
I agree Hugh Laurie has really resurrected this from the dead. ( Pun intended)

yes agree. I actually thought the most steamy realistic bit was with Teddy. I don’t know if it’s the acting, writing or direction - possibly a combination.

I can't take him seriously he spoils it for me he's too 'whatto!' And 'jolly hockey sticks'. I wish corky had been the main baddie he was far more dastardly and believable.

Feeling strangely sorry for Teddy and hope he escapes but don't rate his chances.

Yes! The very slight smile just before he grimaced and crumpled the photo. Had to watch that bit twice. Brilliant acting.

I noticed that too....such brilliant acting!

Corky was far too over the top. Fine in small doses and killed off at the right time.

Poor Basil, he was a good character and didn’t deserve his fate. I walked passed ‘PaperMate’ in London Bridge station this morning and felt tempted to quickly pop in and check Angela retrieved everything Basil hid for her 😁

billysboy · 26/01/2026 17:37

TH just cannot be menacing in the same way Matt Damon can be or even Daniel Craig
Hugh Laurie and his deep brown voice are excellent and has really lifted this out from the depths

I was quite shocked do the security services really just blatantly bump people off like this no attempt to even try and make it look like an accident Confused.

I was also surprised at this!

I think they are ‘rogue’ security services as Mayra is in cahoots with tricky Dicky. I do rather hope that MI5/6 don’t just shoot people, especially lovely people like Basil.

GellerYeller · 26/01/2026 22:32

I have questions!:
Is Angela now single or did I imagine this? How does she get childcare to pop over to Syria to identify not quite passed villains, or root around in stationers in London at short notice?
Why did they shoehorn in the out of nowhere, sexy time in ten seconds routine, in almost exactly the same unrealistic way they did in series one, with Ged?
Was the hallway in the house where poor, lovely, Basil met his maker, the same one where Mr Darcy told Bridget Jones he liked her ‘just the way you are’? It looked like it to me!
