The trailer for the second series of The Night Manager has been released.

The first episode is set to air on 1 January 2026!

Anyone else can't wait for this? All the talk over the years about a second series and it's almost here!

And Series 3 has been given the greenlight, too.

What did Pine whisper in Teddy's ear at the airport before he pretended to leave?

Does Teddy actually know that Roper is his father? He was separated from his sister, all that was said between teddy and Roper was that Teddy wanted to know all about who he was once it was all over - all he knew was that Roper was a man who visited him once a year at the monastery. And he always called him 'Mr Whatever his pseudonim is'.

I don't think Roper was prepared or planning to kill Teddy off. Sandy suggested it, not knowing that Teddy was the son, and Roper gave a non committal answer.

But it may be that is the tragedy. That he will kill or cause the death of Teddy.

I am wondering what happens when Roxy comes up against cat-care neighbour woman!

'Slightly relatedly, he and Hugh L are both TERRIBLE riders! Why did they have them trot, so you could see them bouncing all over the place'

I thought that! Why on earth introduce a horse scene to see them bobbing up and down like that Grin.

PrincessScarlett · 20/01/2026 14:29

@TheatreTheatre Pine whispered to Teddy something like "I'll pray for your soul".

I think Pine knows Teddy better than Teddy thinks. Knows there is some sort of catholic guilt. Hence the self harming. Maybe Pine thinks he can turn Teddy 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not sure why he was asking about schooling for Danny. He was what, minimum 6 or 7 in series 1 (older I think) so 9 years later he has to be at least in or about to go to sixth form, and then university. Surely you'd just leave him to finish the year/a year and A levels where he was.

A normal, caring parent who had their child's interests at heart would think that. I don't think Roper is any of those things though.

QuenchedSquirrel · 20/01/2026 15:43

The horse riding was ridiculous. When Roper later said that Teddy was amazing on a horse, I wondered wtf he was on about! I wondered if I'd dreamt the scene where Eduardo set off bouncing all over the place.

I think Roper said that Teddy looks amazing on a horse rather than being any good. Roper is all about looking good.

Granted all my horsemanship knowledge comes from Yellowstone but Teddy was not 'majestic' on a horse. He looked bloody incompetant.

Roper was a little non-committal about Teddy's demise. I got the impression that he knows he will need to kill him as he's a loose cannon but doesn't actually want to.

I have never ridden a horse myself but even I could tell it was most definitely two different standard riders on the long shot than the close up!

I think Roper said that Teddy looks amazing on a horse rather than being any good. Roper is all about looking good.

The inference was very much that he 'looks good' in the sense of being a good horseman; 'cowboy' may be a derogatory term in some ways, but they're also skilled riders. From the context, too, I think it was clear he was saying Teddy is no good at fitting into 'civilised society' but he does have his skills.

PrincessScarlett · 19/01/2026 17:46

I'd like to see Teddy have a redemption arc as Roper is such a shit father to him and has totally groomed him into what he is today. When Roper told Sandy that Teddy is a cowboy and not fit for civilised society I did think that comment may come back to haunt him.

I wonder whether Teddy dies and Danny will never forgive Roper for his part in it.

I think this will happen too. I think that Teddy will catch the private detective who has been recording Roper.

Teddy will then listen to the recording and realise what Roper really thinks of him.

edited for typos

Re the name Teddy - don’t forget Roper’s bodyguards in S1 were called Tabby and Frisky 😁

DearestItIsSnowing · 22/01/2026 00:39

@PrincessScarlett wrote I wonder whether Teddy dies and Danny will never forgive Roper for his part in it.

Erm, maybe, but they have never met as far as we know, have they?

I’d still like to know where Danny’s mother is, and Jez. He might be more attached to either of them. I wonder what he does in the school holidays.

PrincessScarlett · 22/01/2026 06:56

@DearestItIsSnowing no they be never met but Danny is so lonely that he'd welcome a brother with open arms. Danny has no friends. Only his mother visits him at boarding school. In series 1 noone wanted their kids to play/sleepover because of Roper. I can imagine Roper wouldn't like Danny getting to know Teddy one little bit as he won't want to share Danny or have Danny love anyone else. And I can imagine Teddy would love a little brother too as he's been very much on his own.

GellerYeller · 22/01/2026 19:54

Off on a tangent here, but I was concerned that Angela lives in the middle of nowhere and sent her kid out to play unsupervised. Then disappeared to check the email from ‘Cairo’.
Especially as her husband got beaten half to death in the first series. Maybe it’s just to build jeopardy on the part of the writers, but she and her daughter are sitting ducks for reprisals from Roper or Myra with no neighbours, surely?

TheatreTheatre · 22/01/2026 20:20

I thought exactly the same about Angela

Oh no, not Jez. She had all the allure of a wooden door with a wig on top. Dreadful actress. Glad she isn't in it this time.

Danny's mother would be interesting to see though.

Yes terrible hairdo but nice outfits. The character was so dull in this but the actress who played her was quite amazing and convincing as Princess Diana in The Crown.

I'd forgotten that! 😯

@GellerYeller another one who thought how unsupervised the children were given the back history

Very nice outfits. Looked simple and very expensive. Wouldn’t have suited many figures, but just right for hers. IMO.

Excellent episode tonight I think. Hugh Laurie has really breathed life into this series. I find him mesmerising - think it is his voice….will wait until it has been show on terrestrial TV before discussions.

MayIDestroyYou · 25/01/2026 17:34

Today’s episode is indeed excellent!

Piggywaspushed · 25/01/2026 17:42

Is it episode 5 today? I watched 3 and 4 this weekend. Soooooo much better once Laurie got going.

QuenchedSquirrel · 25/01/2026 21:51

Crumbs. Poor Teddy. Poor Basil. Poor doggos.
