The trailer for the second series of The Night Manager has been released.

The first episode is set to air on 1 January 2026!

Anyone else can't wait for this? All the talk over the years about a second series and it's almost here!

And Series 3 has been given the greenlight, too.

Sandy was Roper's accountant/financial adviser I think. His wife knew exactly what was going on as she kept dropping hints to Pine. She left sandy briefly after the humiliation of his affair with the kids nanny but Roper blackmailed her to come back and spy on Jed, his girlfriend in series 1.

Better memory than me! Yes you’re right
she had quite a significant role

Only because I binge watched series 1 before series 2 started 😂

Bit remiss to let the prosecutor enter the building without an armed bodyguard, such sensitive info it should have surely been a condition of the meet that he had an armed protection officer.

Aye Up Angela's excuse seemed so very lame, 'he was going to kill them then go for me daughter'. Well agree to his terms whilst in her room threatening her then once on the slab pretending to be dead cuff him/kill him or am I missing something.

Love Basil.

Completely agree. And I thought at the time it would have made much more sense for Jonathan to identify the "body" as he had been in Roper's company much more than Angela had (though I have to admit I didn’t suspect she was deliberately lying).

Danny may have been innocent and adoring when Rper was last with him.

But that was 10 years ago.

He may well have changed with no contact with Roper for however long it was, especially since Pine has told him his father is dead.

Do we know anything about Danny’s mother? That may also have an effect on how Roper sees the boys, especially if R was fond of one of the mothers and not the other.

When Danny finds out his father has been alive for the past six years and hasn't come to see him I don't think he'll be pleased.

I wondered actually when Jonathan went to see him if he hadn't already been secretly contacted by Roper and knew Jonathan was wrong.

But after last night's episode that doesn't seem to be the case.

What I want to know is why Roper has only just seemed to remember Danny. Obviously he couldn't do much during the three years he was incarcerated, but why now after six years above ground does he suddenly want his "real" flesh and blood around him?

He didn't even know where Danny was until Sandy told him. Surely even if he was keeping very quiet about being alive he could have got someone to investigate? Hmm, maybe too risky.

I suspect Danny will somehow play quite an important role in the plot later on.

Kitterkitkat · 19/01/2026 15:17

@Gloriia I thought Angela Burr's excuse was a bit lame as well.

Kitterkitkat · 19/01/2026 15:33

I liked the way Pine rescued Roxy and the kid at the end. I wonder where they'll go?

kittybloom · 19/01/2026 15:36

I am amazed at my selective memory from s1. Have no memory of Sandy and wife except perhaps one scene out by a swimming pool. If I was doing this again, I would re-watch s1 which I don't normally do but think it would have been helpful here.

Love Basil too.

Gloriia · 19/01/2026 15:42

That agent fell for Basil's story a bit easily I thought, but then I suppose he's a known and trusted face you'd just think 'never hand over your phone with sensitive info on' would be number 1 in the spook handbook.

Yes I liked that bit.

Roper and Sandy were talking that once Roper has effected a regime change in Columbia for the British Government, Roper can use his new British passport and Myra has bought a house in Oxford for him to start a new life and that's when he wants Danny back. He's in hiding as he's meant to be dead and he needs to pay his former captors before they lose patience. It would be too dangerous to have Danny around until he's secured his new identity and life.

So does indeed look like he's working for the dodgy part of the British Government.

Kitterkitkat · 19/01/2026 15:55

That Mayra is well dodgy, good actress.
And...we're all gripped again with the main players back!!

Excellent news. We've just watched S1 again in preparation. I'd seen it before but had forgotten most of the plot. Angela's baby must be at secondary school by now Grin.

Year 6 or 7 I guess. Still too young to watch Series 1 at any rate !

Didn't someone beat the crap out of her husband in the first series ?

Presumably why she ended up getting the house in the divorce. She could have landed him in prison for a lot longer.

Fizbosshoes · 19/01/2026 16:34

Yes they are all connected, Sandy was at the house in Holland Park, with Holywell and Mayra. Basil had him on surveillance. So by association, Roger is also involved with them.

I also thought holywell handed his phone over fairly compliantly but they are all so duplicitous (sp?) that I couldn't decide whether hed have a 2nd phone or at least a different sim for inside info.

Me and DD had a long debrief over whatsapp yday, she's following a twitter account about it and they think Teddy is going to have a redemption arc and people want a Teddy/Pine v Roper situation....

MayIDestroyYou · 19/01/2026 17:21

I’m sensing a Cain and Abel theme - and suspect one son of Roper will have to kill the other before we’re done.

PrincessScarlett · 19/01/2026 17:46

I'd like to see Teddy have a redemption arc as Roper is such a shit father to him and has totally groomed him into what he is today. When Roper told Sandy that Teddy is a cowboy and not fit for civilised society I did think that comment may come back to haunt him.

I wonder whether Teddy dies and Danny will never forgive Roper for his part in it.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 19/01/2026 16:28

Yes but you'd think that came with the territory in their line of work so surely mega tight security is the issue not giving into an arms dealer's demands if he threatens you and your family.

I wish they'd called him something else 'Teddy' jars a bit imo.

Well, a bluff public school type like Roper would shorten and anglicise Eduardo to Teddy, I think.
I agree Roper will come to regret his comments about Teddy not being fit for civilised society.
Slightly relatedly, he and Hugh L are both TERRIBLE riders! Why did they have them trot, so you could see them bouncing all over the place? I don't know why they couldn't walk, in close-up so you couldn't see their bad hands and seats, and then go straight to the long shot where they gallop and it's clearly stunt riders.
I fear for Roxana Sad

MayIDestroyYou · 20/01/2026 13:21

Currently I fear for the Roxana actress, Camila Morrone’s professional pride. I mean, it’s humiliating. She was an inanimate object for pretty much the entire episode - though she did the best she could with her script.

Sincerely hope she gets to play an actual human being with agency and purpose at some stage before the story ends.

Blueskiesnotgrey · 20/01/2026 13:34

Not sure why he was asking about schooling for Danny. He was what, minimum 6 or 7 in series 1 (older I think) so 9 years later he has to be at least in or about to go to sixth form, and then university. Surely you'd just leave him to finish the year/a year and A levels where he was.
