The trailer for the second series of The Night Manager has been released.

The first episode is set to air on 1 January 2026!

Anyone else can't wait for this? All the talk over the years about a second series and it's almost here!

And Series 3 has been given the greenlight, too.

Me, too! I love his agreeable-but-not-very-bright characters as well.

PrincessScarlett · 19/01/2026 07:01

I also fear Martin the private detective will end up fed to the dogs or the alligators 😬

foxlover47 · 19/01/2026 07:56

Same !! I kept thinking Roper was going to stumble across the bug on the collar every time he focused on the dogs !
he doesn’t care a toss about Teddy really does he , not like he wants to be all dad to Danny.
loved the ending when he saw the photo !
worried for basil and the lovely detective guy though

Yes! The very slight smile just before he grimaced and crumpled the photo. Had to watch that bit twice. Brilliant acting.

I'm rooting for Basil.

I suppose in a way Roper loves Danny's innocence and adoration?

QuenchedSquirrel · 19/01/2026 09:29

I loved that tiny smile when he saw the photo. Pine and Roper were meant to be together as adversaries.

When the denouement of the last series happened with Pine blowing everything up, Roper looked at him with admiration amongst the shock and anger.

So, I think he's secretly pleased that Pine's there, as he probably thinks everyone else in the world is relatively stupid.

Im intrigued at the ages....i thought Danny was maybe about 7 in the last series, they talked about his schooling - when mooting moving to the house in Oxfordshire - but surely he'll have finished school in a matter of months?
And how have they not heard of Padel? 🤣

PrincessScarlett · 19/01/2026 09:54

It's been 6 years since series 1 so that would put Danny at around 14/15 if he was 8/9 in series 1.

It's really sad how Roper treats his sons so differently. I bet Danny doesn't even know about Teddy. I hope they build a relationship that really irks Roper.

QuenchedSquirrel · 19/01/2026 10:35

It's been ten years since series one in real time, and nine years in The Night Manager world.

I know it's been 10 years in real time since series 1.

I thought 6 years was referred to more than once last night. Pine said to Angela about lying to him 6 years ago. Then Roper talked to Sandy about 6 years pretending to be dead. Also in episode 2 Pine told Danny his dad had been killed 6 years ago.

Kitterkitkat · 19/01/2026 10:43

I believe Danny is the same actor in season 2 as in season 1? Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Yes he is

I think the implication was that Roper was held prisoner for 3 years - presumably by his captors at the end of Series 1.

Oh ok, totally missed that. Thanks. Although that makes Danny far too old to still be in school unless he was no older than 7 in series 1 🤷🏻‍♀️

Kitterkitkat · 19/01/2026 11:03

Cheers @PrincessScarlett.

I just looked him up and he's 20 IRL although at that age it can be difficult to tell if they're still at school or not.

Theonebutnotonly · 19/01/2026 11:09

Basil is lovely but every time I see him I can’t help thinking of him as the vicar in This Country…

I've said this before 🤣

Kitterkitkat · 19/01/2026 11:18

Could be worse, when I first saw him I was reminded of the fisherman on the boat in the first of the Bourne films!

Yes. The six years was only mentioned in relation to him being "dead" for that amount of time.

I interpreted the exchange between Sandy and Dicky differently. When Sandy asked Roper if he was going to get rid of Teddy at some point, Roper didn't really answer and half fobbed him off. I thought there was a tiny bit of him that thought he couldn't actually kilhis own flesh and blood.

Maybe I'm too nice though as Dicky is a psychopath!

Danny may have been innocent and adoring when Rper was last with him.

But that was 10 years ago.

He may well have changed with no contact with Roper for however long it was, especially since Pine has told him his father is dead.

Do we know anything about Danny’s mother? That may also have an effect on how Roper sees the boys, especially if R was fond of one of the mothers and not the other.

This is what I thought too. Suitably evasive which also lent itself nicely too 'I don't have any skin in the game for this local boy'.

Can people remind me - was Sandy in Series 1? I have no memory of him at all!

Clearinguptheclutter · 19/01/2026 13:47

Yes sandy was in s1. As was his (ignorant) wife and kids. I remembered when he admitted his wife had divorced him.

PrincessScarlett · 19/01/2026 13:52

Sandy was Roper's accountant/financial adviser I think. His wife knew exactly what was going on as she kept dropping hints to Pine. She left sandy briefly after the humiliation of his affair with the kids nanny but Roper blackmailed her to come back and spy on Jed, his girlfriend in series 1.
