The trailer for the second series of The Night Manager has been released.

The first episode is set to air on 1 January 2026!

Anyone else can't wait for this? All the talk over the years about a second series and it's almost here!

And Series 3 has been given the greenlight, too.

@BeaRightThere I will bow to your superior knowledge of the book. I haven't read it but it's on my list.

I didn't see the sexual tension between Roper and Pine either. Roper did refer more than once to Pine being handsome and also said Corky was attracted to Pine. Corky definitely threw a few sexual innuendos towards Pine. Is Corky like this in the book?

I haven't read the book either, I'm just going from my own memory of the first series and this piece that Le Carre wrote about the adaptation. I'm pretty sure lots of other reviewers also picked up on the homoeroticism. It's subtext of course but to me it was pretty clear. There's definitely mutual attraction between Roper and Pine even if it's not sexual in nature. I noticed Hiddleston said in a recent interview that they mutually seduce each other.

PrincessScarlett · 14/01/2026 21:03

@BeaRightThere oh yes there is definitely an attraction between Roper and Pine but to me it was more of a meeting of minds in each other rather than sexual. I think they both admired each other's intellect, wit and drive.

I definitely need to read the book 🤣

I wasn’t surprised that Roper came back. Hugh Laurie is in the credits as executive producer, and he wouldn't bother with that if his role had been to just lie on a slab for a couple of minutes and be looked at by Olivia Colman.
I think he might be working for the British government, and that's what Angela was up to. Either that or he's pulled the wool completely over everyone's eyes.

Teddy: I agree there is a lot of sexual tension between him and TH and I think the self-harming is partly about him dealing with the fact that he makes his money essentially killing people, but partly because he is latently gay and that is very much frowned on in both Catholicism and (I think) Colombian macho society.
I found the dancing scene quite hot Blush Grin largely because I think Teddy is hot and he seemed unabashed about acting seductive towards TH. He's very masculine/macho but at the same time his sexuality is very ambiguous. I think he's playing/embodying that really well.

MissBattleaxe · 16/01/2026 08:26

Roper could well have been working for the British Govt. Remember Halo from series one? He was a Roper ally on the inside at MI6. Angela Burr had a lot of opposition from the inside when she was trying to take down Roper.

Kitterkitkat · 18/01/2026 10:36

IT'S UP! IT'S UP!!

EPISODE 4 ON IPLAYER! I'm settling in on the sofa with a cup of tea to watch

MayIDestroyYou · 18/01/2026 14:29

Ooh! Just what I’m in need of!

He must be in cahoots. Why else would Aye up Angela lie and say he was dead? Unless he's double bluffing and is still a baddie.

Kitterkitkat · 18/01/2026 14:55

I won't give away any spoilers but it was an exciting episode 😁

QuenchedSquirrel · 18/01/2026 18:57

Episodes 1, 2 and 3 should have been two episodes and this should've been the third.

Now only two left and it's only just got going.

Jonathan Pine was incredibly dull without his real adversary.

Blimey! Just watched episode 4. Worth hanging on in there for.

PrincessScarlett · 18/01/2026 21:01

Angela at last

rockandscroll · 18/01/2026 21:30

Please can someone help me out. I'm no good at this spy/ thriller sort of stuff, I'm so confused. Who is "good" who knows what, and who knows what who knows what they should or shouldn't know...

QuenchedSquirrel · 18/01/2026 21:37

Jonathan Pine is good. Angela Burr is good. And Basil is good.

The others are varying degrees of bad!

Oh my god! What an episode. This is what we've been waiting for 🎉

PrincessScarlett · 18/01/2026 22:01

I do feel sorry for Teddy though. Dicky is an absolute shit and doesn't care about him at all. He's just using him. All Teddy wants is his dad. I wonder if Teddy will turn on Dicky?

Teddy is in for a rude awakening wrt Richard Roper. Thanks god he's back. Him and Jonathan Pine as adversaries are excellent together. Pine on his own not so much.

Teddy with Roper shows just what a difference there is between a wannabe and the real thing.

Depends on where he is when he finds out his dad is preparing to get rid of him, and when that is.
He may not have a chance to do anything about it if he’s about to be shot.

Fizbosshoes · 18/01/2026 22:20

Yes Roper infering (to Sandy) he would "dispose" of his own son if he thought it was necessary

And the way he talked about Danny as if he was a possession

PrincessScarlett · 18/01/2026 22:41

Pine sees Roper for exactly what he is. Teddy has been groomed with these yearly visits throughout his childhood, just enough interest from his dad to have him desperate for love and attention. Pine will see that Roper doesn't care about Teddy.

And yes, talking about Danny as if he's a possession and telling Sandy to pay the mother off so he can have Danny. What a vile man.

But thank the lord he is back!! 🤣

I did like Roper telling Sandy that Pine was a worthy adversary but he made a mistake in not checking he was dead. Pine is already one step ahead of Roper so the next two episodes should be brilliant. I can't wait!

And presumably leaving it so late to get going in series 2 means things will be set up nicely for series 3.

Im worried for the private detective. Hes probably used to simply finding out if peoples wives are having affairs. Every time he was in the tree, I was literally holding my breath...

Im also concerned he had nowhere to wash his hands after feeding the dogs raw meat (but thats literally the least of his worries)

He may well end up as the dogs’ raw meat. Or the alligators.

DearestItIsSnowing · 18/01/2026 23:05

I was expecting Roper or Sandy to find the microphone/tracker at any moment when they kept showing us the dogs.

Yes me too!

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 18/01/2026 23:08

The private detective I feel is wily enough to look after himself. Basil I am concerned about.

CormoranTheFish · 18/01/2026 23:12

Roper is the best villain, in any show, ever. Hugh Laurie, you absolute genius, I love you.
