The trailer for the second series of The Night Manager has been released.

The first episode is set to air on 1 January 2026!

Anyone else can't wait for this? All the talk over the years about a second series and it's almost here!

And Series 3 has been given the greenlight, too.

Is he working for English government?

If Roper is doing that the show has well and truly jumped the shark.

I’m still confused as to who the Colombian man on the run is… and what his significance is

and also, they seem to know where he lives…. so why don’t the baddies take a pot shot at him?

Yikes! But we still are interested :)

Teddy knows Pine as Matthew Ellis so would have no idea that Pine was responsible for his father's downfall. I doubt very much Roper would even have an inkling that Pine is still active in bringing down arms dealers because Pine is going rogue and at present the government have no idea what Pine is up to.

Well RR knew ME as another name too (cant remember what now!) , but also knew he was Pine originally. So I am sure his son knows exactly who he is as he is/was a rather large part of RR's downfall

QuenchedSquirrel · 12/01/2026 12:36

Thomas Quince was the man who "murdered" the bloke in Cornwall.

Then Roper gave him another name didn't he? Andrew Birch!

The sexy dancing was ghastly!! Like you would be getting on like that in a public place and no one would bat an eyelid.

Mostly because TH has zero sex appeal 🤣

Got that wrong.

Jack Linden was the guy who supposedly murdered the guy in Devon/Cornwall.

He then changed his name to Thomas Quince and Roper "found out" just as he was meant to.

Then Roper gave him another identity, Andrew Birch.

Instead of pausing to discuss while watching together, DD took notes for a debrief afterwards, as we watched separately. (DH is no help) We have resolved a few of the issues but not all....if anyone can help.. 🙏😄

It's shame isn't it. Such a glossy and glam production, clearly with a good budget and they have this unconvincing drip in the lead with tallyho Roper now back.
I know I should stop watching, if only they'd had a steely sort like Damien Lewis as Roper and a sexy lead Sad

It is so bad I'm watching to see how much worse it can get. All the sensitive chats in public areas that anyone could overhear, that bloke leaving crucial documents conveniently next to a photocopier and her frantically shoving them in, surely surely it'd have made more sense to take pics of them.

The last minute money transfer as he's dangled over the side of the boat than 'I say Blackadder!' Roper reappearing and Pine getting all teary.

The money that has gone into this, the scenery, the locations. Why on earth couldn't they have got a decent writer. Basil is the only redeeming character.

Not a fan then? If you think this is bad (I don't) then don't watch any drama on ITV or Channel 5.

PrincessScarlett · 12/01/2026 16:10

@Fizbosshoes ah yes the paperclip. It looked to me like Teddy was self harming 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes I considered that. My first thought was that Jonathan pine/Matthew Ellis had used it to gain entry for one of the locks/cupboards.... and was about to be found out ....but then Teddy seemed to be intentionally using it himself. But I also thought he might be doing something to his watch

I think he was self harming as a form of punishment for his “sins” because he said “bless me father”.

Not sure about the others !!

Raisondeetre · 12/01/2026 20:19

Its an utter pile of bollocks.

DearestItIsSnowing · 12/01/2026 23:29

Tom H and the actor who plays the decent older blokevwere on The One Show tonight. I don’t normally watch that, but I was still sitting in front of the TV after the news and it caught my attention.

Tom H said something like Roper was meant to be the worst man in the world, and it worked so well because we’re used to Hugh Laurie playing loveable silly characters.

If we’ve only watched Blackadder and Jeeves and Wooster (and not House) I suppose that’s true. It’s worth watching on iplayer if you have a few spare idle moments. Their interview is quite near the start.

So now Jonathan Pine has told the schoolboy that his father is dead and he isn’t.

MayIDestroyYou · 13/01/2026 00:23

Oh - I’d forgotten that!

ZenZazie · 13/01/2026 08:25

They’ve just gone for a boring tread of the first season rather than develop the character. I’m so disappointed. There would have been so much scope to expand the world building as well.

Have to say I was a bit wary when I read that they rejected Le Carre’s idea on where it might go next.

Instead it’s just a watered down rehash.

I'd love to know what his ideas were. And why they chose to reject them in favour of this nonsense.

I also wondered if Teddy was gay as Ivan made a comment that Pine didn't have to be jealous of Teddy and Roxy dancing together. I'm glad nothing came of the seductive dancing/stroking as I think that would have been a step to far to have Pine waking up in Teddy's bed.

I don't think so. There was always quite a lot of sexual tension between Pine and Roper too.

QuenchedSquirrel · 14/01/2026 13:21

Tom thinks David Farr has written this series with "all the sophistication and complexity" that Le Carré would approve of.

He didn't give a response. Presumably he knew just as much as everyone how implausible it was!!! 😂😂😂

It is plausible, they just didn't bother to explain it. The drug was probably scopolamine which decreases inhibitions and can be used to interrogate people. If he suspected they may do this to him then he could have taken another drug, physostigmine, which counteracts the effects. I could have written a more convincing script.

Was there?

He was flinging his boring GF at TH, though Elizabeth Debecki has all the allure and sexual chemistry of a wooden door, so her and TH seemed very badly matched.

Or well matched, as (much as I think he is a top bloke who danced to Ra Ra Rasputin like a GOD!) he has very little on screen allure too

The homoeroticism felt very obvious to me and John Le Carre noted it too.

Relevant part here: "Has Bier really thought that one out, I ask myself? Or is this just a case of two superb British actors of a certain class subconsciously giving out an aura of insuperability, of a complicity that extends beyond the rational into the homoerotic? Put another way, are Pine and Roper mutually aware of their purposes from the very start? At moments it almost seems so: as if Roper actually enjoys being a partner in his own destruction, just for the pleasure of pairing with someone as intelligent and ruthless as himself; almost as if he’s a little in love with his own executioner.

Did I really get all that into the novel? I’d like to think I did."

Edited

@BeaRightThere I will bow to your superior knowledge of the book. I haven't read it but it's on my list.

I didn't see the sexual tension between Roper and Pine either. Roper did refer more than once to Pine being handsome and also said Corky was attracted to Pine. Corky definitely threw a few sexual innuendos towards Pine. Is Corky like this in the book?
