I think it waa relief crying.

He is what you see. I don’t think there’s any dark side to Alan. He’s like a child.

True, but at least she’s genuinely talented. One thing that made this cast stand out was the lack of Love Island/TOWIE types.

Yea I agree at least we didnt have to watch Love Island types.

They all had a talent

kerstina · 07/11/2025 08:21

I can’t believe some people question whether Alan was pretending to breakdown at the end. He obviously found it incredibly hard keeping it all in . He has a very expressive face and was nervous throughout so I felt the others suspected he was a traitor but kept him in anyway as they loved him being around.

Cat was already well known amongst younger people, according to my dd.

I don't know.

I work in a secondary school. We actually did a mock traitors game as an activity.

A lot of the teenagers said that they did not know who Cat was

No idea, but I don't care if there is a dark side either! I never want " nice" people to win. It's Traitors.😀

I thought that was spectacular TV. So pleased Alan won. Would equally have loved Joe to win. Could feel Nick's anguish.
David was the classic middle class intellect, clever with books but not with people.

David is from a council estate in Gateshead!

I question everything because I am not Naive.

One of my friends is a TV producer.

Everything is fake. Everything! On shows

The impression I got was the Joe was angry about the incompetence and bungling that made them all lose rather than at the idea of being suspected (after all that’s the game).

The editing on this show was so well done. I suspect the shock ending was actually much less of a shock in reality but the narrative we see is careful teased out of hundreds of hours of footage. Must be a fun job to do.

I think people are projecting their prejudices onto members of the cast. And also claiming it's scripted (it's not - I have some distant connections with the production) when in reality the edit we see tells us much more than the players, in the moment, have access to.

My dd is uni age, so maybe it is more amongst her age group. She and her uni friends were already well aware of her in any case.

Even if its not scripted, (ie with an actual script) the footage is of course cut to be the way that the producers want it to be. So in that way it is scripted. It fits the narrative that the producers want to tell

Jonathan ross said that so many interesting things were left out of the show

They weren't all established people.

Cat wasn't well known before.

Since the traitors, she has been posting about how she has reached one million followers on instagram, and how her music singles are now in the charts.

She definitely went on to raise her profile.

To be clearer i was comparing the Celebrity Traitors to the non-cebrity Traitors, and why I felt there was no anger in the celebrity version.

Cat may not have been a mainstream name before The Traitors, but she wasn’t an unknown with nothing going on. She already has a music career — the show didn’t suddenly “create” her, it just gave her wider recognition.

And yes, she’s acknowledged the growth that came from the show. Celebrating new followers or chart success doesn’t automatically mean she only went on to boost her profile. It just means she made the most of the platform she earned, which is completely normal.

I still stand by my point: she didn’t come across as insecure or frantic for fame, and her behaviour on the show reflected someone calm and comfortable in themselves, not someone desperate for attention.

I've just realised that being for charity introduced a flaw - in the civilian game, the final will always go down to two as there are less to share the pot, but Nick's comment that there could be three winners (i.e. three charities that would benefit) showed he was being altruistic and not thinking that getting one more out might be the best course. (Although he may have voted for David, still letting Alan win - I think Nick was, in the end, the kingmaker, and when Joe went it was almost inevitable Alan would win).

Who are David and Nick anyway outside of traitors?. I didn't know them

I didn’t know David either, Nick an actor and comedian has been in lots of things including Ted lasso and he was on taskmaster. He’s very funny.

Okay, so which "national treasures" would you pick for the next series. No johnny-come-lately slebs (as someone above said) so that rules out influencers, MAFs, reality show contestants etc.
I'm no good at starting as I'm not even in UK but one person who comes to my mind Michael McIntyre.
Am really looking forward to watching the final here in NZ tonight.

Here is my list (I don’t care if some wouldn’t do it, I’ve not factored that in)

Graham Norton
Andy Murray
Bob Mortimer
French & Saunders (either or both)
One of the lionesses, but I can’t name any
Someone like Zoe Ball or Sara Cox
Stephen Graham
James Acaster
Dara O’Briain
Davina McCall
Keira Knightley
Matt Smith
Emma Thompson
A couple of older famous sports stars along the lines of Steve Redgrave, Paula Radcliffe (by older I just mean retired from sport a while ago, I know they aren’t old!!)
And then a couple of younger people I wouldn’t know (I didn’t know Nico, Ruth, or Cat)

No politicians. No one “divisive” (absolutely no Piers Morgan types!)

I actually think that’s a flaw in the non-celeb version. They have no incentive to stop at 3 even if they think they’re all faithful. It’s always worth voting someone else out.

That poster said that he is middle class NOW

Getting an education and being intelligent doesn't erase background though does it?
The point implied was that he's out of touch with the hoi polloi because he's middle class, which isn't true on either count.

The only two I didn't know were Nico and Ruth - I was already very familiar with the others, and a big fan of Nick and David (and love Charlotte and Paloma, who I've seen live, she's amazing). Possibly being a massive Taskmaster/8 out of 10 Cats fan helps though, as about a third of the cast have been on one or both.

CaveMum · 07/11/2025 08:48

I think Richard and Marina got it right on Nick - he simply got into his own head and overthought it all. We gave the benefit of seeing all the asides and little interviews and the time to process and think about what we would do. For the celebs this happened over a period of about 9 days. That’s intense and enough to make anyone question themselves.

I loved it on Uncloaked when Ed said he’d bumped into Nick a few days before the Final aired and he’d pulled him aside and said “Everyone is going to hate me!”

We also only see an edited version. Someone on another thread said that the round tables are filmed for hours. So the times someone votes for someone and we the audience think “why have the done that” there’ll very possibly be endless footage that would show why, they just can’t include it all.

Solid list! I'd agree with those - Dara O'Briain would be excellent.
I think there will be no shortage of A-listers for the next series given that last night will be the biggest live TV audience of the year. Richard & Marina's comments on the reach and audience were very interesting.

Maggiethecat · 07/11/2025 08:56

Loved the entertainment that Alan brought and don’t mind that he won.

But I agree that he is bitchy and may even have a bit of a complex. It’s telling that he said afterwards that idiots can win and I don’t think that was just a joke.

Ironically, Joe has been subject to intellectual snobbery on these threads and possibly even Nick and David at the end may have subconsciously thought themselves together smarter than Joe.

MajesticWhine · 07/11/2025 08:56

Good list @ShesTheAlbatross
how about Jo Brand, Rob Brydon, Gary Barlow, Harry Redknapp, Stormzy.

MrsMitford3 · 07/11/2025 08:58

I think that is a very optimistic list but I agree we want a solid A list of celebs.

Although I hadn't heard of a few on this version I accept a couple were there for the yoof audience.

One Love Islander or similar and the franchise is dead 💀and not in a good way!!
