Very suprised this is on bbc 2 and may mean Many won’t give it a try

The BBC has confirmed the release schedule for The Ridge, a brand new Scottish thriller starring Karen Pirie and The Bombing of Pan Am 103 actor Lauren Lyle, and there's not long to wait at all.

Starts Thur 9pm bbc 2

The plot follows a woman named Mia, whose career has gone up in flames and is struggling with addiction. She travels to New Zealand for her estranged sister's wedding, but once she gets there, she finds her sibling dead.

Of course, there's a mystery, and everyone in this community Mia has wandered into is hiding their own secrets. But the synopsis also teases that Mia will find herself attracted to her late sister's fiancé Ewan.

Will she be able to root out the truth, while resisting the temptation?

Lyle previously described the show, which actually filmed in New Zealand as well as Scotland, as "strange" and "gothic".

"Mia is such a fascinating character in a very weird world which is quite delicious to play," she said. "It feels like something very bad is going to play out… in a good way!"

Her co-star, New Zealand actor Jay Ryan, added: "This production [...] brilliantly weaves our cultures and folklore together in a tense and riveting series. This really is an ambitious work with characters that will leave you guessing at every turn."

BBC Scotland commissioning editor Gavin Smith called the show "an example of our ambition to look beyond borders to bring high end quality drama to audiences not just in Scotland but across the world. The Ridge has a first class international team bringing it to life which we are proud to be a part of."

I looked this up to put on my watchlist or planner and the scheduling is very strange. So I investigated further and found this:

  • BBC iPlayer: All episodes are available to stream as a box set from October 21, 2025.
  • BBC Scotland: Premieres on October 21, 2025.
  • BBC Two: Begins airing episodes from October 23, 2025.
  • Sky Open: Premieres on October 21, 2025.
  • NEON: All episodes are available to stream from October 21, 2025.
Thought it might be useful to others. never heard of Sky Open it NEON

Looking forward to this! Not keen on the lead actress but the setting and premise sounds great.

One episode down and not convinced. Finding so many irritating things about it including lead actress. I’ll watch another episode then decide whether to sack it off or not.

This starts tonight so tv paced @AccidentallyWesAnderson

TeaRoseTallulah · 24/10/2025 20:56

I binged the lot, I'll come back later with a review .

Peachy2005 · 24/10/2025 21:43

Watched 1, starting 2nd now…won’t post any spoilers but considering everyone says NZ is so beautiful, how do all these series make it look so grim? I’m including this one, the Gone, Top of the Lake (I think), 800 Words and others. Is it just how they are filmed?

moto748e · 24/10/2025 21:58

Another junkie protagonist? And another unlikeable and shifty female lead. Seem to have seen a few of those lately. Not keen on the loaded flashback scenes either. I think there's Too Much Of That Sort Of Thing in TV series these days. I'll keep watching, but not wowed by ep #1.

FictionalCharacter · 24/10/2025 22:25

I’ve watched the first 3 episodes. I’m finding it very enjoyable. I think it’s deliberate that Mia is an unlikeable character and it would have been a different, much less interesting series if she’d been sweet and nice. I’m looking forward to more revelations!

deeahgwitch · 25/10/2025 01:24

I watched episode 1.
What is she addicted to / sticking on her leg ?

Myblueclematis · 25/10/2025 09:57

I've not binged it but am further ahead than TV currently showing.

I don't like a single character so far apart from Riz. They're all either really weird or plain unpleasant including Mia.

What is she addicted to / sticking on her leg ?

A painkiller patch, they're really strong and usually changed weekly. They're slow release but she was getting through loads of them.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/10/2025 17:50

Well enjoyed that but you all know I’m easily pleased

so her sister was unfaithful to hubby to be

looks like teddy in the video she’s naked with

and he came in to the body while she was asleep. She would have been better to put the trolley against the door as obv She is jet lagged

he looked at her throat so is he guilty

maybe she said she was going to tell ewan so he killed her

The opening song, Never Known A Girl Like You Before, takes me right back to being a child. In the car listening to the music dad put on.

Made me a bit sad

Haven't heard it for ages
