Very suprised this is on bbc 2 and may mean Many won’t give it a try

The BBC has confirmed the release schedule for The Ridge, a brand new Scottish thriller starring Karen Pirie and The Bombing of Pan Am 103 actor Lauren Lyle, and there's not long to wait at all.

Starts Thur 9pm bbc 2

The plot follows a woman named Mia, whose career has gone up in flames and is struggling with addiction. She travels to New Zealand for her estranged sister's wedding, but once she gets there, she finds her sibling dead.

Of course, there's a mystery, and everyone in this community Mia has wandered into is hiding their own secrets. But the synopsis also teases that Mia will find herself attracted to her late sister's fiancé Ewan.

Will she be able to root out the truth, while resisting the temptation?

Lyle previously described the show, which actually filmed in New Zealand as well as Scotland, as "strange" and "gothic".

"Mia is such a fascinating character in a very weird world which is quite delicious to play," she said. "It feels like something very bad is going to play out… in a good way!"

Her co-star, New Zealand actor Jay Ryan, added: "This production [...] brilliantly weaves our cultures and folklore together in a tense and riveting series. This really is an ambitious work with characters that will leave you guessing at every turn."

BBC Scotland commissioning editor Gavin Smith called the show "an example of our ambition to look beyond borders to bring high end quality drama to audiences not just in Scotland but across the world. The Ridge has a first class international team bringing it to life which we are proud to be a part of."

A painkiller patch, they're really strong and usually changed weekly. They're slow release but she was getting through loads of them.

They're not for pain, she's a drug addict .

It says in your summing up in first post that "her career has gone up in flames and she struggles with addiction" , and they've been showing her putting on the patches more than once, which they wouldn't do unless there's a reason .

Not sure if I like this yet, it seems a bit weird!

Ah. I assumed alcohol after what she said about drinking too much

I assumed the patches (which she STOLE!) were some kind of opioid; fentanyl, or the like.

butterpuffed · 27/10/2025 17:45

Oh, maybe you can get patches to stop drinking then, like you can get for stopping smoking .

Edit - oops, posted and hadn't seen previous post.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/10/2025 18:55

Guess we will find out in e2

OP posts:
moto748e · 27/10/2025 18:58

They clearly weren't common or garden patches for giving up smoking, or anythng like that, which you could buy in a chemist. That's why she stole them.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/10/2025 20:29

Ah good point. Stealing drugs from work

Well, that, and the fact her eyes near enough came out on stalks when she put one on! I thought I was watching Olive Oyl for a moment! 😁

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/10/2025 22:10

I didn’t notice that

Yes of course she's an addict, that's why she was getting through loads .

That's exactly what they are, an opioid. Hence her pupils going tiny in the title scenes. Pin prick pupils that you get with opioids.

Clawdy · 28/10/2025 08:23

Yes, I assumed it was some sort of drug she's hooked on.

E2 tonight at 9

I'm on catch up. Ep 1 was a bit off but I'm sticking with it. I like these "down under" ones.

daffodilandtulip · 30/10/2025 20:16

*odd

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/10/2025 20:57

Why odd ?

sister gets killed. Sister is cheating - poor fiance brokenhearted

tho the police and couroner don’t seem that bothered she is dead and how it happened - more seem to want to cover it up

and how did her loved get into the morgue as well - who let him in

lazymum99 · 30/10/2025 21:22

The way it has been filmed - darting all over the place almost like with a handheld camera is making me feel dizzy.
Not gripping me either unfortunately

purpleme12 · 31/10/2025 00:29

She's very abrasive

MarxistMags · 31/10/2025 00:36

Excellent 👍

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/10/2025 15:59

I don’t notice the filming

I like her as an actress here and better then the karen pirie she does

so she is hooked on the drug. It’s a fake drug as I did google it but it’s similar to fentanyl

she seems to be very precise with the patches and doing it to a timer

her mum was horrible to the girls when they were young

Drugs aside, she's a pretty unlikeable character, isn't she?

butterpuffed · 31/10/2025 17:38

You're not wrong , it's the way she approaches people.
