A TV documentary that follows the work of a police force will show how the investigation into the actions of a teenage killer unfolded.

Nicholas Prosper used a shotgun to kill his mother Juliana Falcon, 48, his brother Kyle, 16, and his 13-year-old sister, Giselle, at their home in Luton on 13 September 2024.
The 19-year-old, who was arrested in the hours after the murders, was jailed for 49 years in March. A trial heard he intended to carry out a shooting at his former primary school.

The Channel Four series 24 Hours in Police Custody, which follows the work of investigators at Bedfordshire Police, will feature the case over two nights on 5 and 6 October.

Nicholas Prosper jailed for at least 49 years for Luton triple murders

After killing his family in their tower block in Luton, Nicholas Prosper planned to carry out a mass shooting at his former primary school.

@Moanranger one of the ones that sticks in my head (nobody dies, so it is good in that respect) is one called Black Widow. It's one where a man leaves his phone recording and leaves the room to catch his girlfriend out because he suspects she is having an affair, but hears her plot her ex husbands murder with someone instead! She really gives the police the run around.

The one on the illegal immigrants is also worth a watch and tells an interesting story.

Paul2023 · 09/12/2025 23:17

Stephen’s actions didn’t make sense at all.. why did he hate Joshua so much ? I know Stephen is loyal to his daughter .But must have understood that Joshua wouldn’t want his son to move to the US? Joshua wasn’t being unreasonable, no one wants their child to be taken away be their ex to another country.

Why couldn’t Stephen see this daughter was being unreasonable to her ex partner?

Stephen was a man in his 60s I guess. Why did he think he’d get away with it ? Surely he’ll never see his grandson ever again? Stephen will die in prison , that’s certain.

It just makes no sense why Stephen did this

Paul2023 · 09/12/2025 23:19

30 years minimum is big but still I’d expect more for a double shotgun murder.

Also Josh’s mum has custody of the child so it’s highly unlikely she’ll ever take him to visit Stephen in prison.

So Stephen has lost everything and for what?

Florencesndzebedee · 09/12/2025 23:19

I thought Aldertons friend said ‘killing’ too but then backtracked.

I can’t fathom how Samantha could leave her son behind. That poor child, abandoned by his mum and stepdad, his dad and grandfather dead and his other grandfather the murderer. I really hope his grandmother can give him a good life and some stability and that he has at least some contact with his step sister.

Im 100% convinced there was conspiracy but there wasn’t enough evidence. Alderton reminded me of an old style Reggie/Ronnie Kray type misguidedly defending his family whatever the cost. He lost everything and seemed so respectable too.

It’s one of the best programmes on tv - a fascinating insight into investigations. A lot of the series has been grim and heartbreaking.

WanderingGiraffe · 09/12/2025 23:23

Love this series, and this was a good episode. I feel so sorry for the son, what an awful situation.

Sam is guilty as anything. How CPS didn’t put her on trial I do not know. Stephen is a narcissist who just hated losing face (even second hand via his daughter), and felt he was the only one should have power over the situation. Total arrogant idiot with a major God complex. 30 yrs too short - he should never leave prison.

Paul2023 · 09/12/2025 23:24

No good will come of this but Stephen will die a lonely man in a high security prison.

His daughter moved to the US and will probably never see him and his grandson will unlikely ever see him again either.

He will die in a cell alone. Obviously that’s what he deserves

Pinkbox · 09/12/2025 23:29

I feel so so sorry for the little boy (and his sister), who knows how they will navigate their way through all of this as they grow up. Very glad Grandma got custody but that will of course still leave a Mum-shaped hole in his soul bless him.

The fact that the murderer killed not only the father but also the Grandad! What was he thinking? He was so full of himself.

CameForAVacationStayedForTheRevolution · 09/12/2025 23:41

He will be dead before 30 years is up.

Yes, either say he’ll never be free. Most likely will be in the high security estate too

LandofTute · 09/12/2025 23:54

Samantha seems like a spoilt brat Veruca Salt.
"Daddy! I want to go to America. Make it happen!"
"Of course Veruca! I'll pay for the court cases. I'll get rid of him!"

'They don't show this bit on the telly, do they?' Jesus.

What was that bit?

Cocolapew · 10/12/2025 00:10

Did they say that Sam and Stephen only really got back in touch in 2019? I wonder why that was.
As an aside the airman looked about 15 .

WineBeforeWhine · 09/12/2025 22:15

Just because she wasn’t found guilty doesn’t mean she’s innocent.

True. But you are innocent until proven guilty. She hasnt been found guilty of anything.

LandofTute · 10/12/2025 01:12

Lucky for Samantha and Paul that they're in the US now. Imagine them doing the school run in the UK the day after 24 hours in police custody was on TV!

LandofTute · 09/12/2025 23:58

What was that bit?

It was when they arrested him on the motorway and he asks if the road is blocked.

Yes they did say that Sam and Stephen had been estranged and only fairly recently become close. Which in itself is interesting...

And I thought that about the new husband! In the photos they showed of Sam with the children and her dad, I assumed he was an older child from a much earlier relationship, it wasn't til I rewound to try and work out who was who that I realised he must be the husband.

For those asking about why she lost custody despite not even being charged - that's because the family court has a different burden of proof to the criminal justice system. Plus, there are things which can go against you in family court that aren't criminal offences, such as parental alienation.

RosePetalsRose · 10/12/2025 00:25

Family court doesn't operate on the same principles as the criminal justice system though. It's all about what is in the best interests of the child.

You can have a completely clean criminal record but still be an appalling parent. Things like parental alienation aren't criminal offences but are taken very seriously by the family court.

I think @Soukmyfalafelhas it - he liked to be in control and couldn’t face being ‘beaten’.

Neither him nor his daughter appeared to be able to put the little boy’s needs first, it was all about them and their desires.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/12/2025 07:30

If the boy had stayed with mum, can you imagine being brought up by someone who was involved in murdering your dad and grandad.

She could always take comfort in the fact that she avoided prison in the first place… Such a good liar, telling police “I’ll never forgive him for what he’s done” when he was caught, when she clearly expected it. I wonder generally if people who work in the legal profession or the police feel that the CPS is sometimes a bit problematic in how it decides not to charge, or if it’s just my the public’s perception

Lalgarh · 10/12/2025 08:37

Is Paul in the US military?

That might be one of the reasons they didn't show any of their interviews. They only show those found guilty IE the actual perp. Presumably because of the principle that they're innocent until etc

VikaOlson · 10/12/2025 09:02

Samantha left her child, I just can't get over that. The lack of just basic humanity is astounding.
That child lost his dad and both grandads in the most violent circumstances and his own mother chose to leave him and move abroad with his sibling. I can't imagine the damage that has been done.

Yes. It's like she was only interested in winning. Then when she lost custody she wasn't bothered about contact.
