Upbringing can and often does play a part but there are plenty of misogynistic men who have feminist sisters or mothers that they would never date (even if they weren’t family).
I have two male cousins raised in the same household, one listens to Andrew Tate the other is a feminist as is their sister.
Family relationships and their influence on others are complex.
Again, I know a lot of men who expect women to look or act a certain way based on sexist ideals - and yet their female family members look or act nothing like that.
I don’t think that Ashley being attracted to a stunning woman like Grace says he’s not that sexist either. Even without makeup it’s still very clear she’s slim, very feminine looking and conventionally attractive. And his family have seen her all glammed up as well the first time they met her.
But some of the conflict is around the fact it appears he possibly would like her to be a bit more groomed or dressed up, hence her pushback about his comments, the dreaded dress-gate and nail gate etc
Btw, I don’t feel he is or is being portrayed to be an “evil misogynist or sexist” - Grace even said he was a lovely guy.
I don’t think anyone is saying he isn’t better than Steven? Certainly no one is saying he’s worse.
