I can't find a thread for this Confused. Surely there is one? Can anybody point me towards it?

I thoroughly enjoyed the last episode except I do find it grating just how incompetent they made Claude Whelan. It made it unbelievable that he was first desk.

thecalmsea · 30/10/2025 07:38

So it was Lamb with the Stasi? From his feet?

This series got better for me. One thing that does jar with me though (and I haven't read the books) - why is Taverner so opposed to River coming back to The Park. I get why Lamb wants to keep him - he is actually very good at his job, as shown by the Claude rescue. But why is everyone else so against it? I know there was the airport mistake, but that was a long time ago and lots of other MI5 staff have made similar or greater mistakes in subsequent series. He's clearly been well trained and has the pedigree with his grandfather. Why is she so against giving him a second chance? (because of his Dad now?)

Perfidia · 30/10/2025 07:40

Nah - the astonishing incompetence of men in positions of power seems wondrously true to life, @rookiemere.(Obviously ramped up here for comedic effect.)

thecalmsea · 30/10/2025 08:03

Yes, I thought that too, from my experience of Male IT directors and CEOs.

cornbunting · 30/10/2025 08:27

I've been enjoying this so much, we've watched all the series over the last couple of months, and have never read the books so it's just glorious fun. I love Lamb, River Cartwrong, and Roddy so much. Fantastic characters and so well acted. And then I feel I'm doing a disservice to everyone else, because the rest of them are great too! Coe just being quiet and ruffling River's feathers by being consistently right makes me laugh so much.

The feet reveal definitely tells us that Lamb's Stasi story was at least partially true, and about himself. But as a PP says, it was mainly there so he could give instructions to the others - I'm not sure how much of the detail to believe. Maybe we'll get more of Lamb's backstory in the next series. And maybe, now that Diana is First Desk, Slough House might get a little more respect? She despises Lamb's personal habits but she has deep respect for his abilities and opinions.

Absolutely loved the last episode, it’s the great show of our times I think. But I’m definitely saving it up to binge watch next season, no more weekly nonsense.

Perfidia · 30/10/2025 08:41

I find it slightly too slight for greatness. And there’s pretty much no character development or insight. (Though for some characters it’s better than what we get in the novels.)

I'm finding this series a bit meh. There's a lot less juiciness, variety and intrigue than the previous ones that DH and I devoured.
And what the hell happened to River Cartwright? It's fine to see a bit less of him, but he's had a whole personality transplant.
I wonder why Lamb is so sexless... not even a wistful look at a waitress, or the odd joke about an ex.

CherryRipe1 · 30/10/2025 08:55

Not rtft. How can we watch this ie Apple, Netflix, Disney etc and where to watch the previous series please? Many thanks all!

Imaginethatifyoucan · 30/10/2025 09:09

I gave up on series 3. It was just very poor in my view .

PuzzlingRecluse · 30/10/2025 09:23

I loved the last episode but I need to rewatch in a binge, I’ve definitely missed detail with it being weekly. Not loving a weekly drop I just can’t remember enough between shows!

NormalAuntFanny · 30/10/2025 09:34

I did enjoy the finale but I'm sure one of the Slough housers should have died.

If you haven't read the books then Lambs backstory never really comes out except for the bit we've already had where he kills the traitorous first desk.

I prefer him a mystery so didn't like the bit with the feet. Its a difficult line between them being losers and being the heroes and I think this season didn't quite get that right.

Ahh thank you so much! ☺️

Because he trailed her in series 1 and saw her setting up the kidnap of the young Muslim student by the right wing gang (so that MI5 could swoop in and foil it) until it all went wrong.

Standish still doesn't know that he killed her boss does she? I wonder if that'll come out at some point?

I thought she did but on rereading the book she doesn't. She does learn it at some point .

I see in the book that Gimbal is a transvestite and not secretly Hungarian - guess that was a step too far for Apple, funny you can show murder, booze and smoking but laughing at a man in a dress is beyond the pale.

Merrilydancing · 02/11/2025 09:10

What a season finale.

Spoiler alert!
I had completely forgotten about the mobile phone and loved how it suddenly came back to haunt Claude.

And the old bastard played his part in helping River save the day.

I did go back to episode 3 afterwards to go through the full feet story which turned out to be true, wonder if that will be weaved back into the storyline in future series.

Lady Di now has her desk. Wonder if she knows how much a part Lamb played in this. I agree with the poster above that there is mutual respect between the two, both being old school spooks, she did say at one point that he is the best they’ve got.

So looking forward to the next series already!

EachandEveryone · 02/11/2025 16:11

I am too but I wished they would spend some money doing the place up it must be horrible to work in.

Im new to the show so have binged it in the last two weeks. I deffo couldn’t do weekly. Does anyone know when the next one is due to come out?

FizzingAda · 21/11/2025 22:19

I got three months free Apple TV earlier this year with a new device, and we binged the first four episodes. We've waited til series five was finished before signing up again, and watched the whole four series again, plus the fifth. I think it's brilliant, love the characters. Looking forward now to the next one, whenever that might be.
whelan reminded me of Tony Blair!
