I can't find a thread for this Confused. Surely there is one? Can anybody point me towards it?

This wasn’t my favourite of the novels (apart from the brilliant opening chapter) but today’s was the best TV episode of the current series. Finally some actual intrigue!

Yes today’s was excellent. Plus some extremely funny scenes.

The tin of paint was brilliant.

It was rivers reaction that was clever too

potato08 · 22/10/2025 19:59

JCs casting as Whelan is just perfect 👌
I've started reading the latest book (Clown Town) today

KiIIingMeDeftly · 24/10/2025 10:03

Last night's episode was great, although I figured it all out before Whelan did. Not sure which of Lamb's lines were best - "heading out now for one of the all-time great debriefs" or "hand in your resignation before you die of shame working for that man"! Bring on the finale (I think?) next week...

I was googling the cast and discovered that the actor playing Coe is the son of Bridget Jones's Mr Titspervert!

fortinbra · 26/10/2025 01:27

I don't know why this season got some bad reviews, it's great

EerieDecoration · 26/10/2025 07:49

I agree @fortinbra and am a bit gutted it’s almost over.

CurrentHun · 26/10/2025 10:08

I think it’s been great too. The Tara/Roddy plot. Coe. Happy that River’s grandpa is back too.

PuppyMonkey · 26/10/2025 10:36

Another one here loving this series, although I agree with PP, it’s so much better saving it all up and then binging. I’ve tried the weekly format for the first time this series and don’t think I’ll be doing that again.

JeminaTheGiantBear · 26/10/2025 10:41

Why does Lady Di apparently live in a billionaire style mansion in central London?

A nice house would be fine but this seemed silly & implausible to me & rather insulting to the viewer. Is there some back story about being divorced from an oligarch or something like that?

EerieDecoration · 26/10/2025 11:56

Maybe it's an MI5 property with all the required security etc.

That is so random! Whenever I see Whelan I just think 'Tom' 😂

longtompot · 26/10/2025 20:51

I was frustrated with River not listening to his grandfather as he was telling him about the second honey trap, but I guess to be fair to River he does have to hear a lot of stuff from his grandfather and not all relevant to anything.
I feel this series was a bit more rushed than previous and I haven't felt as engrossed as I usually would. I still want to see how it ends.

Merrilydancing · 26/10/2025 21:26

I’m really enjoying this series but struggling with going back to old school watching by having to wait for a week to the next episode.

As for the best line, it’s got to be the die of shame one!

StartupRepair · 26/10/2025 21:48

Thought the most recent episode was the best but agree I forget detail and lose momentum between each week.

I agree with the pp who says it's likely an MI5 property with all the required security. I presume it needs to be near the Park, both for security and so she can get into the office quickly.
As for it being billionaire style, she is the second desk of MI5; it seems fitting to me.

Me too - I'm like a child who got used to having sweets every day and now I can only have one a week I'm livid 😅

LindorDoubleChoc · 29/10/2025 03:27

I can't get past the absurdity/implausibility of great chunks of the plot to really enjoy these series as much as some. I find it entertaining enough, and I love the London locations, but I'm not bowled over by it. I'm beyond bored by the sniping between absolutely everyone at Slough House, why are they ALL constantly at each other's throats? River's going to regret not giving a little time to his granddad on that phone call.

Hats off to Kristen Scott Thomas and Saskia Reeves for being absolutely outstanding though. I'm pretty convinced by their performances, and I loved that Sam West's character turned out to be a real proper dyed-in-the-wool wrong un!

Perfidia · 29/10/2025 15:05

Well, what can I say …

Shirley has an epic haircut in the trailer for the next season.

(I’m still very puzzled about all the prizes Jonathan Pryce hasn’t yet won for his Grandpa role.)

Perfidia · 29/10/2025 16:35

(Sorry!) But the end of today’s finale was superb. And I somehow don’t remember it from the book.

Sausagenbacon · 29/10/2025 20:55

It was great.
But nothing like the book

Serpentstooth · 29/10/2025 21:48

Haven't read the book. Realised I'm now too old for weekly episodes, I've got more important stuff to remember - like my own name, 👋 grandad Csrtwright - so have saved for a massive binge today. Which was very enjoyable. Weekly episodes would have broken the tension. I'm going to save the new Herron for Christmas. 8 episodes to come.

PacificState · 29/10/2025 22:19

I might be going a bit doolally, but I think the next series is a combo of two books? They really are mucking about with the plots now (no particular complaints, it’s just interesting). Wonder if the actor who played Louisa is just never coming back - I didn’t spot her in the trailer. @Perfidia I don’t think that closing scene (Lamb at his desk?) was in the book - none of that strand was.

HumphreyCobblers · 30/10/2025 07:22

I am very slow but I only realised the significance of the last shot when I woke up in the night at three am.

Really enjoyed this series, I found it easier to follow the plot than some of the others. Am planning to start the audiobooks soon and really looking forward to them.
