Expected to dislike La Voix as I hate drag, but actually quite liked him. As long as no one calls him she..............

Good luck with that.
I agree with you but I bet quite a few people will call him "she".

Chrysanthemum5 · 28/09/2025 09:20

When Karen started and there was the messing about with Carlos getting the yellow card I thought 'oh dear maybe she's rubbish and Carlos is just trying to avoid actual dancing' and then she just went into the jive full throttle! I thought she was the biggest surprise of the night.

Ross I thought would be a bit better than he was based on how he did in the group dance

I thought Alex and Harry were under marked

Ellie just seemed quite tired I imagine it was a long day for her but she seemed to love it.

Craig's face was odd obviously he's had a lot of work done but something seemed strange

Thomas was as bad as I expected and I felt he was quite annoyed during the scores. I just feel for Amy having to spend all her time around him

But best of all my almost 18 year old daughter who is autistic and has spent the last 2 and a half years avoiding contact with us beyond the basics (as she had burnt out and couldn't cope with anyone) is watching it with me!!

ThePoshUns · 28/09/2025 09:23

That’s lovely @Chrysanthemum5

SynysterGates · 28/09/2025 09:25

enjoyed it. but it was way to long.
Karen was really good. no real fave yet. but like Alex, Vicky and Harry.
George was good as well.

Ellie has said in a few comments on her insta that she was just tired after a 14 hour day. That's definitely how it appeared to me when she was being comforted, she just looked wiped out.

That doesn’t bode well for her though. What happens next week when she has to film the “Sunday” show? It usually doesn’t finished until around 11pm. She’ll be absolutely beside herself with tiredness.

We always record so can zip through chatter and just watch dances and scores.Takes an hour less 🙂.

ThePoshUns · 28/09/2025 09:46

Yes I prefer to watch on iplayer so I only need to watch the dance and critique

That’s so heartening to read @Chrysanthemum5 ♥️

Yes, especially if/when she ends up in the dance off. I'd be worried for her dancing again, so late.

And the stress/disappointment too. I hope she copes.

I wonder if they will concentrate on the Latin dances for a bit for her, to avoid too much chopping and changing the styles? (While Dianne and Stefan do ballroom to avoid too much strenuous exertion for Dianne.)

for the early shows when there a lot more couples, it sometimes doesn't finish until midnight/1 am!

Chrysanthemum5 · 28/09/2025 12:04

Thanks @Willow12345 and @ThePoshUns it is lovely to have her spend time with me and just chat. The only thing we disagree on is La Voix. DD thinks drag is harmless fun I think it's inherently misogynistic. Having said that I have warmed to La Voix as a person and enjoyed his dancing last night - I think Shirley was right though in that his instinct is to dominate and he needs to let Alijaz have space to teach him and choreograph the dances

Chrysanthemum5 · 28/09/2025 12:07

I was also surprised by Jimmy he did incredibly well. I was sad that Lauren may not have a great partner so was delighted he did well

ChessieFL · 28/09/2025 12:34

A reasonable adjustment for Ellie would be her sitting out all the Clauditorium bits except after her own dance. That would give her time to relax a bit. Still a long day for her but at least she wouldn’t have to be ‘on’ all the time.

SynysterGates · 28/09/2025 12:36

maybe she wants to be treated the same as everyone else.

gingercat02 · 28/09/2025 12:42

Just caught up.
Well I did not expect Karen Carney to be good, but she bloody was!
Thought Balvinder and Alex would be better, liked mini Verne, Stefan, Jimmy, La Voix and Vicky
Hate Tom full stop and thankfully he can't dance.
Really felt for Ellie she looked very uncomfortable at times.
Amber, ringer but will probably grow on me

TheMadGardener · 28/09/2025 12:44

I think Lauren will do a great job with Jimmy and he may last a good long while, like Krishnan.

Was taken by surprise by Karen. Carlos isn't the best choreographer of the pros, I think her success will depend on how she does with ballroom. But if anyone's going to achieve the girl-next-door-not-a-ringer journey narrative this year, it's probably her.

I like Stefan, he will last for a while on popularity not ability. I strongly suspect that if Stefan lasts past Halloween Diane will get to the point where she has to step out and one of the benched pros take over. They probably already know who her "reserve" is in case of pregnancy issues, just like Lauren was set up to be Amy's reserve last year.

It wouldn't surprise me if Ellie chooses to drop out somewhere along the journey due to finding it all too much. It's a very full-on and tiring commitment for anyone. I'm sure they will make accommodations for her (e.g. not making her wait in the Clauditorium) but I just have a feeling it will get too much either physically or emotionally. I have a friend whose young adult son has DS and they both think the same. Hope we're wrong though.

Jury's still out on Alex and Johannes - undermarked this week, not enough VW content though. They are both very popular so I think will last a good while unless it turns out she really can't do Latin etc.

DramaLlamacchiato · 28/09/2025 12:52

La Voix is a “she” when in character same as Lily Savage or Dame Edna. Everyone knows he’s a man but I’m OK with calling him a she when in character. I don’t watch drag race but La Voix was the entertainment on our cruise a couple of years ago and was really pretty funny

StrictlySequinsandStiIettos · 28/09/2025 13:03

Karen and Carlos 😍
Did not see that coming.
I also liked La Voix and Aljaz a lot.
Was very impressed by George as well.
Many of the rest were average for me/let down by poor music or choreo choices.
Two ringers fair enough but Lewis's was too hectic. Don't mind Amber being there.
Expected more Tardis in Alex's. Stefan's was fine, even if twee.
Out of Chris, Ross and Tom, I'd prefer Ross to stay. I'd feel for Nadiya if she has two First Boots in a row, her own boots were 🔥, but if all the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 come out for geezer Tom, I can see Chris going out first as the Olympian Tom was much, much better than him.

Figgygal · 28/09/2025 13:04

Glad to see some actual low scores happening I'm the first week so people can grow and develop.
Watching it now but forwarding as much as possible to keep the 8 year old interested - this first weeks are a bit of a slog

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 28/09/2025 13:07

SynysterGates · 28/09/2025 12:36

Yes. It’s nice that everyone is showing concern for Ellie but if her support network didn’t believe she could cope she wouldn’t be there. I think everyone needs to consider whether their support for Ellie is just that or whether they are “othering/patronising” her in the terms they are using. I’m not singling any one user out but I noticed a bit of it last night and it bothered me. My 2p is that I hope that in the longer term Strictly turns out to be a positive experience for her; I think we all want that

I’m trying my hardest to work out which pro danced with ADB in the opener - was it Lauren or Amy?

TIA

Chrysanthemum5 · 28/09/2025 13:16

I thought it was the new pro - can't remember her name though

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 28/09/2025 13:16

I think Lauren @locketrocket
