New police drama to start on Friday

Set on the border between North and mainland Ireland and featuring mismatched detectives who somehow create a formidable crime-fighting partnership, think of it like True Detective with an Irish twist.

Created and written by Cold Feet writer John Forte and starring Line of Duty (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a62800629/line-of-duty-series-7/)’s Amy De Bhrún, the premise is a particularly strong one.

The series introduces us to prim Northern Irish detective inspector Philip Boyd (Eoin Macken) and his sweary counterpart from the Republic of Ireland Aoife Regan (De Bhrún), who find themselves partnered up on a brutal murder case.

Forced to put their differences aside, they collaborate to solve a crime that straddles the border keeping them apart.

the six-part series follows an (at first glance) ill-suited detective pair working across the Irish border to solve a murder mystery.

Straitlaced detective inspector Philip Boyd (Eoin Macken) of North Ireland finds himself working alongside his foul-mouthed Republic of Ireland counterpart, detective inspector Aoife Regan (Amy De Bhrún).

The pair are opposites with clashing personalities and backgrounds, but although neither of them are happy about the partnership, the two must put their personal and professional differences aside to solve the brutal cases of victims along the border.

The cast of Borderline includes:
• Eoin Macken as Detective Inspector Philip Boyd
• Amy De Bhrún as Detective Inspector Aoife Regan
• Lochlann O'Mearain as Jack Mullen
• Hugh O'Connor as CS James Casey
• Charlotte Bradley as CS Flynn
• Sophie Vavasseur as Aisling
• Craig McGinlay as Rev Adam
• Ciaran McMahon as Captain
• Amy Malloy as Lottie Mullen
• Paul Reid as DC Maguire
• Siobhan O'Kelly as Roise Boyd
• Barry John Kinsella as Ian Walsh
• Sarah Carroll as Roisin
• Jack Hickey as Sean
• Adam Walker-Kavanagh as Garda Brady

Yes – the series originally aired on MGM+ in 2024 and has also been snapped up by Apple TV+. Viewers have called it “an amazing crime drama”, with some describing it as True Detective meets The Bridge.

Thanks to its brilliant mismatched detective storyline - a staple of all great crime dramas

It’s got an actor from Blue Lights in it - Joe / Fogerty (Charlie Maher ) - this is going to confuse me as watching both at the moment!

Of course. I recognised but couldn’t think why

I thought this was going to be a whole story each week so was surprised at the sudden finish. Lots of secrets going on.

Regan is so snappy whoever she's talking to . I always expect the main character to be likable but don't think she is this time.

I don’t watch blue lights but if blondes did the thread like she did this one then they’re always a tv pace no spoiler thread. It’s not fair when someone tries to spoil it

I reported this am and mnhq bless them have removed it and emailed me to say they had

they also didn’t mention no capitals 😂😂

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 04/10/2025 20:37

I was suprised no one had commented on the killer being the best friend ?

did get a little confused with names and people. I think this is right

Sinead is the dead one

holly blonde hoovering - who has the wedding ring
niamh her best friend - killed her
Aisling other blonde - got the drugs from the landlord
………….. - who was the hen

was best friend also shagging the husband

I can’t find a bloody recap and driving me nuts as sometimes. Like now - I need one 😂😂

JewelleryCat · 04/10/2025 20:56

Oh did her best friend kill her? I must have missed that completely. I’m not sure who the hen was

We saw the friend go out and stand behind her and I thought wallop her over the head ?

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 04/10/2025 21:26

And she lied to the police and said that Holly lied about her following her

I’m hoping this is a guess and you haven’t seen e2 and a spoiler as no reason why this person would be the killer ?

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 04/10/2025 21:27

Glad not the only one not sure who the hen was

If she walloped her, I have completely forgotten that part lol

I’m now questioning myself. I’m in bed now but will check it tomorrow. But near the end You see her on the beach and then being hit

unless she is imagining her friend being hit

but why lie to the detectives when they asked her again. If she went out and she said no

I think at this stage, the only thing we can be sure about is that it won't be Joe! 😀

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/10/2025 00:34

Yes I don’t think it’s Jo

and again friend who walloped her (in my opinion) looked very guilty as he was heaved off to station

Tho why did he lie and say didn’t go out that night

also Pervy cab driver but that’s too obvious

moto748e · 05/10/2025 00:38

I do think it's a bit clunky, though. Some of the dialogue is very poor.

Clawdy · 05/10/2025 08:19

Quite enjoyed it, and at least we will be spared the usual "will they, won't they!" storyline with the two main characters. But obviously they'll end up as mates!

JewelleryCat · 05/10/2025 08:45

Did you manage to find a recap blondes?

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/10/2025 09:53

JewelleryCat · 05/10/2025 08:45

Did you manage to find a recap blondes?

No. Which is really annoying

the usual reel mockery , what to watch , dm talkies or tv troupes - none have done one

most series they do so annoying

OP posts:
moto748e · 05/10/2025 11:48

We'll just be forced to give our own opinions, then! How old-fashioned!

tennissquare · 05/10/2025 11:53

I think there is no recap because it originally aired in 2024.

Wonder what channel it was on originally as must have been maybe Netflix Apple paramount or I would have def watched /done a thread

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 05/10/2025 15:10

At 57mins @JewelleryCat Niamh goes onto the beach and you see sinead being walloped

i thought she was replaying it in her head and she killed her

but maybe was imagining it

but as @Imhereagainseriously has removed what she wrote about who the killer was - which I saw 😡

so guessing they have seen e2 to know who the killer is

which has ruined it for me

so again as obviously

CAPITALS AND SHOUTING NO SPOILERS in the title doesn’t seem to work 😡😡

please no spoilers. If you binge don’t come on here and reply ruining it

According to AI it aired in 2024 in the US on Roku and in the uk on MGM+ which I have never heard of & I watch loads of Tv!

JewelleryCat · 05/10/2025 16:07

I’ve never heard of MGM+ either, is it a new channel just for streaming like Netflix?

@Blondeshavemorefun luckily I missed what that poster wrote but not good that you saw it. Sometimes binging is good for some things but these threads are really good for us who only watch stuff once a week
