New police drama to start on Friday

Set on the border between North and mainland Ireland and featuring mismatched detectives who somehow create a formidable crime-fighting partnership, think of it like True Detective with an Irish twist.

Created and written by Cold Feet writer John Forte and starring Line of Duty (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a62800629/line-of-duty-series-7/)’s Amy De Bhrún, the premise is a particularly strong one.

The series introduces us to prim Northern Irish detective inspector Philip Boyd (Eoin Macken) and his sweary counterpart from the Republic of Ireland Aoife Regan (De Bhrún), who find themselves partnered up on a brutal murder case.

Forced to put their differences aside, they collaborate to solve a crime that straddles the border keeping them apart.

the six-part series follows an (at first glance) ill-suited detective pair working across the Irish border to solve a murder mystery.

Straitlaced detective inspector Philip Boyd (Eoin Macken) of North Ireland finds himself working alongside his foul-mouthed Republic of Ireland counterpart, detective inspector Aoife Regan (Amy De Bhrún).

The pair are opposites with clashing personalities and backgrounds, but although neither of them are happy about the partnership, the two must put their personal and professional differences aside to solve the brutal cases of victims along the border.

The cast of Borderline includes:
• Eoin Macken as Detective Inspector Philip Boyd
• Amy De Bhrún as Detective Inspector Aoife Regan
• Lochlann O'Mearain as Jack Mullen
• Hugh O'Connor as CS James Casey
• Charlotte Bradley as CS Flynn
• Sophie Vavasseur as Aisling
• Craig McGinlay as Rev Adam
• Ciaran McMahon as Captain
• Amy Malloy as Lottie Mullen
• Paul Reid as DC Maguire
• Siobhan O'Kelly as Roise Boyd
• Barry John Kinsella as Ian Walsh
• Sarah Carroll as Roisin
• Jack Hickey as Sean
• Adam Walker-Kavanagh as Garda Brady

Yes – the series originally aired on MGM+ in 2024 and has also been snapped up by Apple TV+. Viewers have called it “an amazing crime drama”, with some describing it as True Detective meets The Bridge.

Thanks to its brilliant mismatched detective storyline - a staple of all great crime dramas

Oh that was complex but he’s a good egg letting him go

thi how will he ever work if no visa etc

I do like the way the murders are solved in 2 episodes

Yes, it’s better this way sometimes than it dragging on

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/10/2025 10:44

Easy watching and don’t forget the plot (unlike the hack)

Clawdy · 26/10/2025 08:05

I don't remember that bit.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/10/2025 08:14

I thought he said people think you are dead - the man with the burnt arm who tried to save the driver

Clawdy · 26/10/2025 08:26

I’m probably getting mixed up, I was so tired that night I was half asleep watching the end!

Clawdy · 26/10/2025 08:05

I don't remember that bit.

He said that the bad guy (I think he was a baddie) would take Samirs place in Belfast because Samir stabbed someone and will now get deported

New 2 part tonight

moto748e · 01/11/2025 00:03

So disappointed! When I saw this ep was about hurling, I thought, great, this is a chance to show off how to to do the fada (which I'd learnt on another MN thread a couple of days ago) in camán (cos that just had to be involved), only to find that they insisted on calling it a hurley! 😀Of course I have no knowledge of what the actual usage is around the border.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/11/2025 19:14

Awww @moto748e- you can still show off 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/11/2025 19:17

As usual I enjoyed it as I’m easily pleased

I did think why wouldn’t the furniture boss show his shoulder if it wasn’t him ………

so who has the gun on the prickly female

and obv the plot who killed the hurly star

I don’t think it was the wife or the jealous team player they think did it

the manager of the hotel /dentist was politely told to behave or end up like him - so guessing kinda gang rebated ?

tho suprised he didn’t mind his girlfriend sleeping with other dentists

I do like borderline but sometimes I get lost off on what is happening lol. I am liking the friendship between them though, Patrick and Reagan

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/11/2025 19:48

Yes nice they can be friends - which they are

and no romance

lazymum99 · 07/11/2025 14:17

I’m waiting to see if you lot are as confused as I was at the end

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/11/2025 14:20

Oh no. Don’t say that. I like it simple

and esp as can’t find recaps of this

OP posts:
JewelleryCat · 07/11/2025 21:36

I’ve really enjoyed borderline

onceuponatimeinneverland · 07/11/2025 22:05

Confused. Who is Sean/Shaun? Uncle?

JewelleryCat · 07/11/2025 22:17

I’m not sure but he had the scar so he obviously killed Patrick’s dad but then again, he called him Da

moto748e · 07/11/2025 22:39

Presumably cos he knew, or inferred, that Scar Man was his biological dad? People kept telling Boyd that he wouldn't like the answers to the questions he for asking.

ETA: grammar

onceuponatimeinneverland · 07/11/2025 23:26

I'm thinking his mum's second husband as scar man said 'your mum' had done the buttons on his shirt.

Or perhaps not.

Had we seen scar man before?

And had she nicked the bunch of flowers from the mantle piece?

And that belted jacket was fabulous, especially as she'd worn very shapeless suits all season!

butterpuffed · 08/11/2025 15:13

And who was the man in the car at the very end saying 'Found her'?

JewelleryCat · 08/11/2025 16:02

butterpuffed · 08/11/2025 15:13

And who was the man in the car at the very end saying 'Found her'?

Probably the baddies she was running away from because she put some of them in prison I think. She did explain once but I can’t remember much

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/11/2025 21:42

Avoided this till had seen

im confused

so sean the old man in the care home had a scar

so did he shoot his dad

tho maybe he wasn’t his dad and care man , man was

hence his memory lapse calling him son and mum

I’m confused

so his dad wasn’t a good man and shot people and why he was killed

which has prob blown Boyd’s mind and hope he doesn’t go and drink

not Sure who is after ragan but she’s not hard to find. Sporty car and blonde and works as a copper

this is where I need a recap and can’t find one all series

there is a s2 tho as I found that’s via googling
