New police drama to start on Friday

Set on the border between North and mainland Ireland and featuring mismatched detectives who somehow create a formidable crime-fighting partnership, think of it like True Detective with an Irish twist.

Created and written by Cold Feet writer John Forte and starring Line of Duty (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a62800629/line-of-duty-series-7/)’s Amy De Bhrún, the premise is a particularly strong one.

The series introduces us to prim Northern Irish detective inspector Philip Boyd (Eoin Macken) and his sweary counterpart from the Republic of Ireland Aoife Regan (De Bhrún), who find themselves partnered up on a brutal murder case.

Forced to put their differences aside, they collaborate to solve a crime that straddles the border keeping them apart.

the six-part series follows an (at first glance) ill-suited detective pair working across the Irish border to solve a murder mystery.

Straitlaced detective inspector Philip Boyd (Eoin Macken) of North Ireland finds himself working alongside his foul-mouthed Republic of Ireland counterpart, detective inspector Aoife Regan (Amy De Bhrún).

The pair are opposites with clashing personalities and backgrounds, but although neither of them are happy about the partnership, the two must put their personal and professional differences aside to solve the brutal cases of victims along the border.

The cast of Borderline includes:
• Eoin Macken as Detective Inspector Philip Boyd
• Amy De Bhrún as Detective Inspector Aoife Regan
• Lochlann O'Mearain as Jack Mullen
• Hugh O'Connor as CS James Casey
• Charlotte Bradley as CS Flynn
• Sophie Vavasseur as Aisling
• Craig McGinlay as Rev Adam
• Ciaran McMahon as Captain
• Amy Malloy as Lottie Mullen
• Paul Reid as DC Maguire
• Siobhan O'Kelly as Roise Boyd
• Barry John Kinsella as Ian Walsh
• Sarah Carroll as Roisin
• Jack Hickey as Sean
• Adam Walker-Kavanagh as Garda Brady

Yes – the series originally aired on MGM+ in 2024 and has also been snapped up by Apple TV+. Viewers have called it “an amazing crime drama”, with some describing it as True Detective meets The Bridge.

Thanks to its brilliant mismatched detective storyline - a staple of all great crime dramas

Have really enjoyed this series. Can anyone help identify the theme tune? Neither Shazam and Android's now playing apps can identify it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/10/2025 01:36

@JewelleryCat it did piss me off tbh but least only 1 episode to go

as all are 2 parters

and new story for 3&4 and 5&6

if had found out the killer in e1 out 6 I would have been fuming

tho guessing if plot stands and to make it work - there are going to be more deaths in the north and they live in the south or deaths in the south who live in the north or how else will they both work together

I really enjoyed this. Watched 2 episodes (no spoilers from me tho). I didn’t realise it would be tied up in the second and then a new story but actually it works well like that. A lot of beardy men again confusing me

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2025 18:52

Part 2 tonight

They look the same the friends. So the best friend was having an affair with her husband

Charlotte was the one getting married

Holly looked after the ring after the affair

Well that Was good but as I knew who the killer was due to spoiler that @Imhereagainseriously posted last week 😡 - it took the pleasure away from this episode

so again can I please ask no spoilers

if you want to binge then enjoy but don’t come back and post when the episode hasn’t been shown on Fri night itv

I liked the episode. Reagan opened up more and I think her and Boyd will eventually have a nice friendship

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2025 22:57

Yes nice they won’t have sex 😂

Yes nice they won’t have sex 😂

That is true lol because every other main character in anything seems too. Nothing wrong with a lovely friendship

Just watched ep #2 and it looks like my confident earlier post was way off the mark (I didn't see any spoilers)! Every single character is unlikeable! Even the hero (?) is a murderer? Or is that just a pipe-dream?

Joe is not a murderer, that shooting scene was just a dream in his head. That's what I assumed anyway.

Oh. I don’t remember him doing the shooting scene

OP posts:
butterpuffed · 13/10/2025 09:56

I don't think that Joe murdered that man , he was thinking about his father being murdered as he knew his killer had been released - it was just him imagining he'd do that .

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/10/2025 14:13

Oh the policeman. No he didn’t shoot his father’s killer. That was a dream

I think I’m out on this one. Some very bad acting and lines, characters constantly changing accents and it just has the cheap look of a Channel 5 drama. Obviously providing a lot of employment to ex-Fair City actors 😆

moto748e · 18/10/2025 00:53

There was this awful clunky scene early on where they went to talk to the un-grieving widow of the tanker driver, and as they left, they were peering through the window saying, do you think they're on to us? And quite why was that scene necessary or desirable? The male lead kept reminding me of Inspector Lynley!

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/10/2025 08:30

I didn’t make this last night. Bed early as worked Thur and didn’t get my day then nap

will watch tonight along with Mexican morgue. Loving that

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/10/2025 22:49

I watched last nights tonight. Still enjoy the show

shame I can’t find recaps

OP posts:
moto748e · 18/10/2025 22:55

I didn't bother with Mexican morgue, but I suspect it's more fun than this!

[edit]
Cos you posted, Blondes, I came to the thread, and saw the above, which I wrote yesterday, but obviously didn't press 'Post'. This is a bit baggy, but there's enough to keep me watching, but I daresay the morgue is a better quality show.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/10/2025 23:06

I’m loving the morgue

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 19/10/2025 22:26

But also loving this and wonder who the 3rd man is

bad mum shagging /cheating with her daughters boyfriend.

OP posts:
JewelleryCat · 19/10/2025 22:42

I am liking the friendship between the two main characters, it’s building up nicely. Who would just walk in with a stranger and just say to their wife that it will only be a few days? I did find that but weird but I suppose you have to also suspend belief

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/10/2025 19:22

E4 tonight which is part 2 /end of this storyline
