White van contains dissers from Derry. They were going to attack the police. The disser boss calls the attack off due to his son's death.

So even tho they try and protect them , they want to kill the police and the dad whose son died was behind it - but then. Stopped it ?

OMG best tv hour of the week and it goes way too fast!

Was in floods for Aisling: so devastating for emergency services in these situations. My mum was an ambulance nurse: I don’t think they ever get over some of the calls.

Tina had some great lines and delivery: fck me, Tinder isn’t what it used to be. I’m not fcking Trócaire.

@Blondeshavemorefun the drug gang sent the 200k to Derry to get dissident Repubs to assassinate a cop. The white van was going to attack the cops doing the death notice. The Dad had been identified from the licence plate at the crash as a known Republican so he knew there was a hit out. He told the people in the van “not today” due to the circumstances (doing the death notice).

Edited

Thanks.

still a bit confused but I’m blonde 😂

I don’t get why they would pay £200k to shot a cop

Excellent episode. In fairness @Blondeshavemorefun there is a lot in relation to NI politics that is unsaid, that could make it confusing. (I’m from Belfast with sadly a lot of experience in the arena as my dad was in the RUC).

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/10/2025 23:32

It’s very confusing @SaratogaFillyand scary to live there tbh

esp with keep checking cars and good thing she did as a bomb under it

I guess it’s expensive to have a peeler killed because it will attract a lot of attention. The drug gang wants the cops focused on Republican dissidents instead of the drug gang so are willing to pay.

The dad whose son died wasn’t behind it. It was another crowd from Derry. The dad just moves in those circles so would be known to the Derry crowd and could tell them it wasn’t to happen then and there. He wouldn’t have any power to call it off completely.

@Blondeshavemorefun presumably we won’t actually find out what’s on the tape. Considering it’s with an underage girl in care, the accountant has to do whatever he’s told.

Letmeoutodhere · 06/10/2025 23:47

I’ve watched it all on iplayer. It’s just head and shoulders above everything else on TV. The quality of the writing and acting is just stupendous. I was utterly hooked and didn’t find my attention wandering for a moment. Moving, thought provoking, emotional , stressful. All of those things. Just utterly brilliant.

SeptemberIRemember · 06/10/2025 23:50

I’m sure I notice very little, but I did see spot a wall at the end of the street, (can’t remember if they were in more than one location), presumably a peace line. I’m not sure many non-Irish people know they still exist, with peace gates which are closed at night.

An excellent and very moving episode, I thought.

SaratogaFilly · 06/10/2025 23:50

To be honest, me & my sister checked under our car for bombs & we also had to move house literally overnight as there was a threat against my dad (& a load of other things that do sound nuts & scary when you tell someone who hasn’t experienced it) but I honestly had a great childhood & Belfast is an amazing city. It’s worth visiting - friendly people, great craic & stunning countryside. Belfast is nowhere near as scary as this show makes it appear (unless you’re into drugs & crime I suppose but for law abiding citizens it’s actually pretty safe!)

Yes, there was a peace wall in the background.

I'm wondering where the story about them accessing the phone is going - I can't see any outcome at the moment other than them ultimately being dismissed, but it can't be that simple!

Peachy2005 · 07/10/2025 08:13

I’m guessing another pairing may end up in the same quandary again as they need access to the drug gang’s phone app to catch them…

I can’t imagine having to check under the car everytime I wanted to go out. Scary!
How realistic do you think the programme is?
Must admit I have binged it and am now rewatching for anything I missed. I loved it.
Only realised this series that Grace is also the sister from Sherlock!
ETA sorry meant to mention your dad - that must have been awful.

I have watched it all on Iplayer and was gutted it ended as it's so good. The best thing i have watched on all platforms for a long time

daffodilandtulip · 07/10/2025 14:30

It's the only show I don't wander off to my phone with.

I think it's easy for us in England to think it all ended with Good Friday, I guess that's what the politicians want us to see. I am shocked that it's still so intense though (albeit with some dramatic license?).

lazymum99 · 07/10/2025 14:37

When the first series was shown I was embarrassed that I thought it was all ok since the Good Friday agreement. I had no idea it was like this.
There is so much on TV now that I end up spending time watching rubbish while scrolling on my phone. This was truly an exception. I binged it well past my bedtime with no lapse in concentration.

To be honest, it was our normal, so didn’t seem scary, just something we did before we went out in the car. You just crack on with things.

The programme is brill but there are quite a few personal security aspects of the show that don’t ring true from my perspective living with a policeman in NI. Great show though!

SeptemberIRemember · 08/10/2025 00:32

I’ve just watched the first episode of Borderline, and the NI police man checks under his car.

It’s remarked on by either his wife or the Garda police woman, or possibly both.

The woman does from other side of Ireland

Indeed, Belfast in great and thriving. The show focuses on very specific areas and particular streets, even.

daffodilandtulip · 08/10/2025 06:39

@snemrose oh wow, would never have made that connection and I love Sherlock!
