In a long awaited return to British television, ITV (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/tv-reviews/a64348705/gemma-arterton-secret-service-itv-drama/) have scored award-winning actor Andrew Lincoln to lead in upcoming thriller, Coldwater.

Alongside Ewen Bremner, Indira Varma (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/a64475507/the-night-manager-season-2-release-date-cast-plot/)and Eve Myles, the six-part series is written by celebrated playwright David Ireland and, if recently-released first look images are anything to go by, is guaranteed to keep you at the edge of your seat.

The series (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/tv-reviews/g31986791/best-tv-shows/) centres around John (Lincoln) and the unfolding of an unlikely relationship when he moves up to the fictional village of Coldwater in rural Scotland.

Exploring themes of masculinity and religion, the thriller blends dark humour with compelling characters.

What is the plot of Coldwater?

After witnessing a fiery confrontation in a local playground, stay-at-home dad John relocates from London as far away as possible up to Coldwater in Scotland.

Amidst his mid-life identity crisis, John befriends his mysterious next door neighbour, Tommy (Ewen Bremner). A friendly face and valued resident in Coldwater.

Tommy is a relic of the community; he is the leader of the all-male book group and married to Rebecca, the local vicar (Eve Myles).

Whilst John is totally enthralled by Tommy, his wife Fiona (Indira Varma) is completely unsettled by him.

As Fiona strives to add some spark back into her marriage and her career, she is wary of John and Tommy’s bond.

Fiona’s suspicions are correct, as underneath his charming exterior, Tommy is the neighbour from hell.

As his mask starts to slip, his shocking secrets come to the surface, and John starts to question Tommy’s motives whilst he grapples with his own personal struggles.

The official synopsis reads: “This is the story of a normal man, in a normal marriage, who finds himself in a far from normal situation. A man who discovers a newfound sense of his own power, right at the moment he falls under the influence of someone incredibly dangerous.”

Who is the Cast and Crew of Coldwater?
• Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead, Love Actually, Teachers) plays John
• Ewen Bremner (Our Flag Means Death, Trainspotting) plays Tommy
• Indira Varma (Obsession, Obi-Wan Kenobi) plays Fiona
• Eve Myles (Hijack, Keeping Faith) plays Rebecca

Cameron believes what? Cameron was one of the thugs attacking John and his family. A real chip off the old block. And he's very weird and stalkerish with Katrina.

I don’t think he likes John accusing bus dad but he just reliese his parents are abnormal and why his sister left home

We watched the first ten minutes and switched off. Load of confusing, strange rubbish.

Did you watch the previous 4 episodes?

purpleme12 · 29/09/2025 07:12

I assumed PP meant the first 10 minutes of the first episode

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/09/2025 08:15

I do get why part of it says black comedy now

We watched 10minutes of the first episode obviously and then switched off.

I'm liking this. Yes it's weird and full of crazy people who do not behave in any way like people do irl but it's quite compelling. The ugly home decor, the beautiful scenery, the wild eyed stares and wondering what on earth will happen next.

Tommy is a very convincing villain and I quite like John's character too.

TessTickle0 · 29/09/2025 09:38

I enjoyed it, have laughed out loud quite a few times, at things that shouldn't really be funny but really were.
Do not like john and his simpering voice at all.

The one playing Tommy is really scary! Some good acting from all of them.

Rebecca is a fucker!

Trouble is, if they get the box and it's in their possession then John will well and truly be set up.
