In a long awaited return to British television, ITV (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/tv-reviews/a64348705/gemma-arterton-secret-service-itv-drama/) have scored award-winning actor Andrew Lincoln to lead in upcoming thriller, Coldwater.

Alongside Ewen Bremner, Indira Varma (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/a64475507/the-night-manager-season-2-release-date-cast-plot/)and Eve Myles, the six-part series is written by celebrated playwright David Ireland and, if recently-released first look images are anything to go by, is guaranteed to keep you at the edge of your seat.

The series (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/tv-reviews/g31986791/best-tv-shows/) centres around John (Lincoln) and the unfolding of an unlikely relationship when he moves up to the fictional village of Coldwater in rural Scotland.

Exploring themes of masculinity and religion, the thriller blends dark humour with compelling characters.

What is the plot of Coldwater?

After witnessing a fiery confrontation in a local playground, stay-at-home dad John relocates from London as far away as possible up to Coldwater in Scotland.

Amidst his mid-life identity crisis, John befriends his mysterious next door neighbour, Tommy (Ewen Bremner). A friendly face and valued resident in Coldwater.

Tommy is a relic of the community; he is the leader of the all-male book group and married to Rebecca, the local vicar (Eve Myles).

Whilst John is totally enthralled by Tommy, his wife Fiona (Indira Varma) is completely unsettled by him.

As Fiona strives to add some spark back into her marriage and her career, she is wary of John and Tommy’s bond.

Fiona’s suspicions are correct, as underneath his charming exterior, Tommy is the neighbour from hell.

As his mask starts to slip, his shocking secrets come to the surface, and John starts to question Tommy’s motives whilst he grapples with his own personal struggles.

The official synopsis reads: “This is the story of a normal man, in a normal marriage, who finds himself in a far from normal situation. A man who discovers a newfound sense of his own power, right at the moment he falls under the influence of someone incredibly dangerous.”

Who is the Cast and Crew of Coldwater?
• Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead, Love Actually, Teachers) plays John
• Ewen Bremner (Our Flag Means Death, Trainspotting) plays Tommy
• Indira Varma (Obsession, Obi-Wan Kenobi) plays Fiona
• Eve Myles (Hijack, Keeping Faith) plays Rebecca

There are 3 unsolved murders in the local area. Fiona saw the page book marked at Tommy's in episode 2. And they were all girls/women. Perhaps friends of Moira Jane and why Rebecca and Tommy now have their agreement not to kill women.

I thought she was going to find something in the box in the garage

The ring was surely Nathan's signet ring, Tommy's latest trophy.

Fiona runs /controls Tommy

Not very well though! He's what you might call a loose cannon. Their pact not to kill women feels very much on the edge of failure!

Oh yes, you're right. It looked more like a man's ring so must be Nathan's. But she's definitely worked it out that they are all trophies.

moto748e · 22/09/2025 22:51

She doesn't seem the sharpest tool, though, and still won't see her Mum's involvement.

ETA: Didn't she say she was adopted? Yeah, and in therapy.

dottyshihtzu · 22/09/2025 23:18

Was that Angus' necklace back in the trophy box, too? She's got to realise, if so.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/09/2025 11:42

Sorry Rebecca

SO much for Tommy and Rebecca 's agreement that a woman won't be killed ~ I think the agreement may get broken.

It was funny when the men in the Bible Group were asking if they could go back to reading the bible again !!

The man who plays Tommy is a brilliant actor, I wouldn't want to meet him in the daytime let alone after dark 😱

Goonergirl14 · 23/09/2025 22:56

I think the daughter is the daughter of the woman who was killed in the town years ago..probably wrong, can't remember how long ago they said she had been killed
..so intrigued by it, bonkers but great!

FurForksSake · 23/09/2025 23:11

That’s what we said too @Goonergirl14 that she’ll be the daughter or something equally sinister.

He really is an amazing actor, he’s nailed this character. Utterly chilling!

PrincessScarlett · 24/09/2025 08:16

@Goonergirl14 @FurForksSake ooohhh that would make Moira Jane the trophy wouldn't it if Tommy and Rebecca kept her after killing her real mum.

Clawdy · 24/09/2025 08:18

There's obviously a reason the daughter is adopted, for the storyline. Is Cameron adopted too?

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/09/2025 10:10

I just assumed they couldn’t have kids so adopted and he came along as a happy bonus - as often happens when adopt and body ‘relaxes’

I thought Moira Jane looked familiar and just realised that she was the doctor in Strike Lethal White or was it Troubled Blood?

TessTickle0 · 24/09/2025 13:56

I thought she looked familiar so googled but not seen anything she has been in...so maybe just one of those faces

Albless · 26/09/2025 08:15

The posters who were reminded of Deadwater Fell have a good memory for location as both were filmed in the same village, and church. Dunlop, south of Glasgow. The street where the two couples stay is in Strathaven, I think.

And agree that we don’t talk about vicars in Scotland. Usually minister, or pastor maybe for independent churches.

Also we do talk about play parks! A playground is at a school.

I didn’t like the first episode at all , but have got drawn in. Only the last episode to go, but on holiday just now so keeping it for when I get home.

This whole drama is weird

Yes my thoughts entirely. Great cast but can’t work out whether it’s drama or comedy or WTAF? Last episode made me want to throw something at the screen but distinct impression a season 2 may inevitably follow.
