Stephen Fry. Not as clever or talented as he thinks he is . Another Cambridgr luvvie creep.

Christwosheds · 15/08/2025 19:50

Women:
Emma Watson, she is a hopeless actress, absolutely no talent at all even given all the money that must have been thrown at lessons.
Nicole Kidman.
Lily James.
Keira Knightley.
Olivia Coleman.
Men:
Eddie Redmayne.
Tom Hanks.
Daniel Craig.

YY to Fry. He sets alarm bells ringing for me every time he appears on screen - revolting man.

Olivia Coleman
Anna Kendrick
Carey Mulligan

Tom Cruise
David Tennant (I just get this really malevolent vibe from him and IDK why)

I’m fine with Tom Cruise, though he wouldn’t be someone I’d seek out to watch, but I totally agree with David Tennant. I can watch him in Dr Who for some reason, but nothing else, or if I do watch, he makes me feel really uncomfortable. Malevolent and sinister describe it well. And I get exactly the same vibe from George Clooney, I can barely look at him.

Several people have mentioned John Travokta. Would probably have agreed this afternoon but have just watched Saturday Night Fever because there was basically bugger all else on. Expected to hoot with laughter. All I could remember from first time round was the silly white suit.
it drew me in, to my surprise. Far more gritty than I remembered, sone great performances and a surprisingly 21st century ending with his character acknowledging that it was possible to like and respect a woman without bedding her.
So, JT is off my list (-and he really was one hell of a dancer, too 😆)

mylovedoesitgood · 16/08/2025 06:14

Olivia Colman for me too, she’s pretty limited as an actor and I don’t buy for one minute the “I’m so very humble” baloney.

Suranne Jones, also limited.

Reese Witherspoon used to pick interesting roles but since she pivoted to doing more TV roles, I get bored of her essentially playing the same character.

Daniel Radcliffe
Olivia Coleman
Cameron Diaz. I'm not against cosmetic procedures but just find it really uncomfortable to watch her as her face has changed so much. She was always naturally beautiful.

yesohno · 16/08/2025 08:36

Keira knightly
Russell Brand
David Tennant

Which director did Emma Thompson sleep with?

Ken Branagh.

I am glad to see Cate Blanchett on here. Everyone talks about her as if she's the second coming of Katharine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly but I think she's fairly mediocre. In Monuments Men her performance reminds me of Michelle from Allo Allo. The same character, accent and realism. I prefer Allo Allo.

I think Florence Pugh is great and if she made Emma Watson cry and give up acting then I like her even more. She acted EW off the screen in Little Women (not difficult tbf).

Rallentanda · 16/08/2025 09:51

@FKAT I don't think you know the history. Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson met while being directed by others. They both starred in a tv epic mini-series, the name of which escapes me but it was huge in the late 80s. That's where they got together. Only later did he start his directing career. They were married by then!

ETA: It was Fortunes of War.

FKAT · 16/08/2025 09:59

I remember it. They were sold as a package. She wouldn't have had the career she had without him.

Ihateboris · 16/08/2025 10:03

Keira Knightley!!!!!!!

OK it's a grudge. You crack on!

Noomi Rapace. I can't stand her for some reason and she only has one facial expression so her acting is really wooden seeming

I would have agreed with this up until I saw her in the movie The Trip . She is brilliant in it very expressive & her comic timing spot on.The whole cast in that are brilliant actually , It 's on Netflix if you haven't seen it, very funny, dark humour & a wee bit brutal too.

I will. This is a thread of actors and actresses that put you off. I don't have to provide a peer-reviewed, fact checked analysis of IMDb in support of my prejudices.

chattyness · 16/08/2025 10:18

Probably get a roasting for this but Vicky McClure, to me she's just a starey wooden top in everything very dull to watch.

Omg.. completely agree. I was watching The Replacement last night and thought how wooden she was 😀

ANYTHING with Sheridan Smith. Can’t stand her. Likewise any TV show with Lou Sanders. Both an immediate switch off

If we’re choosing tv shows aswell as movies then I can’t stand Amanda Holden.

There are quite a few who irritate me but I can’t recall their names. Below are the ones that grate for their acting or other crimes. I don’t claim I’m being reasonable about personality outside of acting ability.

Emma Thompson - far too pleased with herself
John Nettles - awful hammy delivery
James Cordon - no amount of thesp talent (if he had it) would cover up the odious way he treats people.
Lily James - annoying face
Keira Knightly - annoying pout
Rebel Wilson - too busy being funny (and not managing it)
Emma Watson - zero talent as an actress. Awful sing-song child actress, not improved since.
Olivia Coleman - wheeled out too often
Elizabeth Hurley - claims to be an actress and manages to get across every punctuation mark in the script as if she is reading it out loud.
that McGann brother who now produces Call the Midwife and plays the doctor. I haven’t seen him in anything else but him and the Scottish actress simpering away arrrgghhh. It’s such a self indulgent bit of self-casting as the life-saving, visionary, kindly, principled, ahead of his time brilliant doctor, husband and father. He may be a good actor elsewhere but he’s marked his card with that sugary bilge.
Tom Cruise - boring
Stephen Fry - Stephen Fry being Stephen Fry in a series of costumes. Also has flip flopping opinions or opinions that I suspect are not his real ones but are the acceptable ones.

the80sweregreat · 16/08/2025 15:53

I’m not keen on James Nesbitt myself , he was In everything not long ago.
