MBB.

Or there was a dreadful one with Brenda Blethyn that only lasted one series..

Was she a cafe owner with a refugee customer?

CriticalOverthinking · 13/08/2025 17:45

Black adder and Monty python.

but Mrs browns boys definitely holds the crown for worst thing ever broadcast. I’ve met one person who thought it was the height of comedy and they were exactly what you’d expect MBB fans to be

merryhouse · 13/08/2025 17:46

Hyperdrive.

It was trying to be the new Red Dwarf, but it just wasn't funny.

After episode 3 I said wonderingly to my friend "I laughed once" and I remember describing it as "which even Miranda Thingy couldn't salvage"

the80sweregreat · 13/08/2025 17:51

Go ‘wen or something like that set in Liverpool and the young offenders. Both awful

the80sweregreat · 13/08/2025 17:51

I liked Miranda because I liked the characters!
It probably won’t date well, but I was rooting for her with the nice man.

Arrested development

I have to protest, the first 4 seasons of Arrested Development are probably the funniest television ever made. It literally makes me weep with laughter.

ImJustFineTYVM · 13/08/2025 17:53

Always amuses me how people say that Mrs Brown's Boys is the worst thing ever - and I completely agree that it is by the way - because if it wasn't a slam dunk ratings hit the Beeb just wouldn't commission it year after year. So it obviously is extremely popular.

the80sweregreat · 13/08/2025 17:55

Who is watching Mrs Brown ? I admit the first episode was quite funny , but after that it went down hill and I have to even mute the ads for it. It’s been running for years too!

LittlleMy · 13/08/2025 17:59

There’s a few but ‘Not Going Out’ was 100% unfunny.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/08/2025 17:43

For me, it’s Fawlty Towers - I just can’t see the appeal.

I agree. For me, it is too cringeworthy to laugh at. In fact, it makes me feel very uncomfortable, especially the episode about the Germans.

PC comedy took hold in the 1980s. Has there really been nothing over the last 40+ years that you've found funny? What kind of comedies stand out to you as both hilarious and non-PC? It Ain't Half Hot, Mum? Mind Your Language? Love Thy Neighbour?

Nothing that was memorable. not many people on here are currently suggesting anything that is funny, so I am not alone.

Trouble is that so many have been on multiple repeats you know what is coming as does multiple generations

manicpixieschemegirl · 13/08/2025 18:01

Not going out

TheignT · 13/08/2025 18:13

I'm not saying I haven't laughed at it, but I spend most of any episode of 'Everybody Loves Raymond' incandescent with rage at the mealy mouthed, selfish, immature, co-dependent, narcissistic, controlling, fucking bell-end who is Raymond Barone, rather than enjoying it as a bit of a silly laugh.

I actually hate his fictional character.

Oh and MBB of course - it will be the only remaining show commissioned after the zombie apocalypse the way it's going. Madness.

If I see the title or an announcer says everybody loves Raymond I have this urge to scream no they don't.

TheignT · 13/08/2025 18:16

Nothing has lived up to The Likely Lads. My favourite of all time.

I don't watch MBB but I remember a thread years ago where a poster was so outraged that a new series of it was being broadcast that they tried to start a kind of MN petition of getting people to agree not to watch it. IIRC quite a few posters replied that they didn't like/never watched it but would be doing so because they didn't appreciate the OPs high handed tone.

So that might explain a few of the shows sky high ratings!

Definitely a contender for the best TV theme tune.

Well that’s three of us 😄

Four…. actually…

I think the people who say that they liked Love Actually actually only liked the bit with Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman.

That Joni Mitchell scene….. 😢

Actually I love all the Bill Nighy parts.

Ant & Dec have been referred to as Ant or Dec in my house since the film came out.

Spray, I remember Dear John and it was funny.
Only fools was good, but it was also ‘ of its time ‘ and I know that my boys just didn’t get it at all ! Milllionials. 🙄 😆
Rings on their fingers was bad as was ‘ the mistress ‘ with Felicity Kendall. Raised a few eyebrows.

Loved Dear John. The woman always asked 'anything sexual, yah?' In the group sessions.

the80sweregreat · 13/08/2025 18:35

Ant or Dec! Bill Nighy does steal the show in Love actually.
I liked Terry in the likely lads as he was such a misery!
